When we confronted him with the error, he did refile for us, but no refund for his (very costly) services was ever offered. Just yesterday, we received a letter from the state tax board stating the we also underreported to them for the same year. So even though Venuti refiled our federal taxes to ameliorate his error, he ignored the state returns. Was it ultimately our responsibility to double check our returns? Of course. But who would imagine that a CPA could be so totally incompetent as to make such a huge, glaring error? When we took all our paperwork to a new CPA, we were informed that Venuti took some rather unusual deductions that would cost us more in the long run.
