First, let me say that the staff is exceedingly friendly (which is why they got 2 stars instead of 1). Went to purchase 2 pistols on 12/3/2025. Not in stock so I made a deposit and they ordered them for me. I was told they should be in receipt of the pistols in 7-10 days. Since it is the holiday season and these pistols are a big part of that for me, I attempted to perform my due diligence by calling to check the status of these deliveries 10 days after my purchase (12/13/2025). I was assured by the gentleman who I spoke to that it was normal for them to be a little late due to the holidays and I was assured I'd receive a call as soon as they had them. I waited another 4 days before calling again on 12/17/2025. I was told the same spiel and my patience was requested. I kindly requested that these items be tracked so that I would have the possibility of scrambling to buy these pistols elsewhere to be in time for Christmas. The nice gentleman got my contact info and promised to call me back. He did so a short time later to explain to me that their distributor never did ship the pistols but that they would definitely be shipped out that day (a Wednesday) and that they would be there that Friday or Monday at the latest. When Saturday came around and I still never heard anything, I called again (12/20/2025). I explained my situation and asked that the pistols be tracked. I was told that there is only 1 person there that can track items and he would not be in until 3pm that same day. I called back about 4pm and asked for the gentleman to be told he was assisting another customer and my contact info was taken and I was to receive a call back when he was free. The call was never returned. Having gotten nowhere on the phone in 4 attempts, I drove to the store myself on 12/22/2025. I yet again explained the situation and the gentleman explained that these 2 pistols were sent to their Hampstead store on 12/8/2025! I told him what I had been told and he saw no evidence that the shipment was missed or that they were re-shipping only that the tracking info (which i repeatedly attempted to get someone to look up) told the very simple story that they were simply sent to the wrong Eastern Outfitters. Since absolutely everything went wrong up to this point, I asked if I could just drive to Hampstead myself to avoid any further delays. I was told I could not do that (I assume to allow them to get to make the sale in their own store). They did immediately dispatch someone to go to Hampstead to pick them up, however. I am not splitting hairs that the errors occurred, I am perturbed that nothing could be handled over the phone and I had to be physically present for the issue to be properly investigated. This simple purchase was turned into a stressful situation to the point I had to feel lucky that the pistols were received (just barely) in time for Christmas when it could have been rectified 2 weeks prior if they would have simply tracked the packages. as I had requested. On another note, after all of this, I wasn't offered a box of shells or anything, just repeated apologies for the disorganization. Again, really nice people here but this simple transaction was made far more painful than it needed to be. Next time, I will just go back to their Hampstead store where I have bought a few guns previously with no hiccups. read more

I personally love to go here and checkout the new guns of all types and the newest archery equipment. The guys at the gun counter have become my friends and people I really like to get information from. Swindell, the gun manager along with people like Tom and Joe always make it a pleasant experience. The only reason I've bought a gun from anywhere else in the past 7 years is because it was on long term back order. Not only do they have tons of firearms, they also have a huge supply of shooting supplies of all kinds. They usually have the "hard to find ammo", and hunting calls and scents. I was in need of a good bow tech to check my Hoyt compound bow. I had ask around my area and was referred to Eastern Outfitters. I gave them a call on Thursday, drove over on Friday just after lunch. Meet Ryan the bow technician and he resolved my issue in a matter of 10 minutes. While there I had him cut me some more hunting arrows and purchased a packet of Black Gold sight tapes. With our brief conversation I quickly learned that Ryan was the "real deal". Eastern Outfitters will be my go to bow shop from this point forward. Needed a string for a recurve/traditional bow that was gifted. Called on the phone they told me I believe his name is Andy or Adam? I don't remember. Patched me to him and we talked for a few told me to come down. He was helping another customer which he stopped what he was doing, Asked the customer and he was OK with that. We were able to talk shop and they educated an amateur on shooting a bow. taught myself and my nephew, how to string and restring a traditional bow. Great service and prices were fair. Can't complain about that. Not sure why this place has bad reviews. Great service looks like there was plenty of ammo in stock. I've bought my fishing license there before tons of gear and live bait. Purchased a fire arm from a manager there. When I got the fire arm home out of the box there were scratches on the barrel, Itook pictures and returned it to the store He took pictures and said it was from the manufacturer. He took pictures and said he would get it resolved. He said give him a few days and he would call me. waited two weeks called him and left a message. Waited another two weeks and went to the store. The manager told me that I would have to contact the manufacturer. I sent pics and contact info months ago with no response. This was a major purchase, I would have never took the fire arm knowing it had a defect. Mark said he had my back and would take care of any issues. HE DID NOT!! I would not recommend buying anything at this store especially firearms. They promise you the world before you buy. After the sale. Let's start pointing fingers. The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful, especially the bow staff upstairs, they are really good people up there. They offer advice, correct form, make suggestions, and help the newbies. New to the area, my teenage daughter and I stopped in this afternoon in hopes of purchasing a North Carolina bird identifying book. This was our third stop of the day. The store had been recommended by the Richlands Museum, so I was pretty confident that I'd find what I was looking for. Upon entering, we were greeted by two young cashiers (a plus, the greeting, the age is meaningless). I approached the cashier who was not helping another customer, didn't get her name, but she was a red head. I asked her what I was looking for, and she looked me in the eye and responded with "we don't sell children's books". Ok, so I didn't ask for a child's book. I'm with a 15 year old girl, who does not look like a child, in fact she looks much older than her age. I myself, only wish I looked a year younger, let alone childish LOL. So I take it, either she has somehow grossly misunderstood my bird identifying question, I guess those sound like children's book terms, or she thinks maybe I read at a children's level? Hmm? Maybe she thinks my daughter is a little slow? I think that sometimes, she's not, she is actually a bright student, with an attitude. The red head was just being an a**, but she did make the effort to go ask a man across the store, who suggested I buy online. Ok. fine. I'm sick of driving anyway. Next, since we are there, I ask "red" if they sell belts. She asked me what kind of belt. Since I'm not a hunter or a fisher etc. I suppose this question could have made since. There could be a ton of fishing and hunting related belts out there. So I simply said "the kind of belt used to hold pants up". Red rushed off to the other side of the store. She pointed out 4 belts with fish on them, and walked away. Had "Red" not been so rude to my daughter and I, we would have purchase 3 pairs of boots about 5 minutes after the fish belt incident when we spotted them. Not what we came for, but the second we saw them we forgot all about the bird book. Then I remembered "reds" nasty attitude and told my daughter I'd rather pay 5X more elsewhere and not be treated like an idiot. To the owner of this store. How about talking to your employees about hmmmm customer service. Unless you are forcing them to work there, like if they are your children, or wife, or wives or whatever, if they don't want to be there, maybe they shouldn't be there. It's such a buzz kill to see $700 worth of boots I didn't need, but totally could have bought because my husband was at home 10 miles away and I had the credit card, but I also have my pride! Eastern Outfitters is, as the name would suggest, a new outfitter in Onslow County and this is their Jacksonville location (there's another in Hampstead, and I saw the sign for a new one being constructed, but I can't remember now where it was). It's similar in fashion to, say, Gander Mountain, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc, except that it's focused primarily on hunting and fishing. There was a limited bit of camping gear, plus boots & clothing, but no kayaking, climbing or other recreational gear like you'd find at the aforementioned retailers. The employees (owners?) also seemed less than enthused to offer any sort of assistance or personality. I was ignored from the time I walked in until the time I checked out, and even then the only sign of vitality I saw in the cashier was when she grunted "I thought that baby was a girl"... read more

I got my Jennings restrung back in 2018 and I know this review is rather late but please read all the way. My first issue was that it took about a week longer than what they said it was going to take, it was during the rut so I kind of pushed it aside and understood that they were probably just busy. When I finally got it and went to sight it in, I noticed that the peep sight wasn't properly rotating, so I adjusted the rubber tubing and all was perfect. This was the last time I shot it. We moved and it was immediately properly hung on the wall. Well today I finally got some time to shoot and it was going great again, sighted it in again and at the 25 I got pissed enough to take the time to write this review right before college football. My peep sight completely came off! What the hell? This was my last straw. Even though I do not live in the area anymore, I highly recommend you to reconsider and go elsewhere. I get it, it's only a peep sight, but it still had to do with their work when restringing my bow. What else could they have messed up or overlooked? I do not feel safe shooting with this string. read more

I asked for help and was directed to an aisle right in front of two workers. I stayed in that aisle for 25 minutes walking back and forth and when I asked them again for help looking for a specific thing they pointed back to the same aisle and said it is in there. I've been a customer for about two years, but after the recent gouging I took on an FFL transfer, I won't be going back. They hit me for $35.00 (up $10 since my last transfer) plus tax on a $40.00 lower that I had bought online. Just stepped in this store for the first time ever this afternoon. My husband purchased my son some hey dudes shoes & they ended up running too big. After trying to return/Exchange then for a smaller size we noticed they didn't have his size at all. So we grabbed myself a pair just so we don't have to go through the return process. When checking out at the register I simply asked the cashier how much the cheetah print Bogg bag was on the back counter. Immediately she responds with a nasty attitude saying "I bought it already". I'm like okay cool just wanting to know how much they go for. She's clearly annoyed and goes and checks the bag and says $75. I then ask her if she will be getting that print again? And she responds no it came with our summer order. & we're not ordering any others until what we have sells on the shelves. Okay cool.. She finishes the exchange. Doesn't bother putting the new shoes in a bag or anything. & completely just turns around and starts chatting with the other chick at the counter. I simply say thank you and go to walk away and she just completely ignored me and acts like I'm no longer standing right there at the register. So to the cashier today wearing the tie dye shirt. I'm not sure who pissed in your cereal this morning. But don't take a job in customer service if you're just going to be rude and stank to the customers that literally did nothing to you. absolutely terrible, i brought in my glock 36 to their GLOCK rep they had in store all i needed was a new extractor. he took the pistol in the back room and said he had broken my old one and handed me a card to a gunsmith in wilmington! WTF and he didn't replace my part. that incident aside they have a rather good selection but their ammo is way over priced and under stocked and the staff is always rude and unhelpful. if you like being treated like you are inconveniencing the staff and getting treated like garbage than this place is for you read more

Ive been waiting for this one, 4 years to be exact. Being the only place around to have my bow serviced, i ventured in one day. I was amazed by the selection, hence the two stars. I was also amazed by the lack of a greeting at the door by the cashiers, the guys dealing with the guns and the bow guy upstairs. Im more than willing to drop some cash down on fishing lures everytime i go in. Ive been ian the store probably 10-12 times with the same plan. I walk around the store and walk upstairs and spend about 30 minutes in the store. All i need to hear is a "hello, how are you today", or a "can i help you find something". 1 time out of 10-12, i was asked if ia needed assistance. I bought $20 worth of fishing lures that day. Its kind of a fun game to play when i have the time, but its really bad for thier business. read more

I recently bought a compound bow here and the help I got was amazing. The people that work near the bows are absolutely experts and they spent about an hour and a half with me picking the perfect bow, retying the strings to make sure their perfect, and making sure I was accurate with it before I left. I walked in a complete beginner and the staff really helped me grasp the fundamentals of shooting and caring for the bow. Overall, I'd come here again and recommend a friend. read more

Eastern Outfitters outside of Jacksonville is a joke. The unprofessional attitude I received there last night was ridiculous. I went in last night January 15 2013 to buy guns "plural", and asked about a shot gun that was purchased moments before i entered the door. The question I asked was "Do you have any more tactical weapons?" The response was ... "That was 1700 dollars" as if that employee had any idea the kind of money I was ready to spend at that store. The answer given to me was completely irrelevant and stopped me from spending any money at that store location ever again. I am reminded about every 3 months when i stop by that store in Jacksonville why i choose to visit the Hampstead location, because they treat you right. I bought my daughter a carhart jacket on Black Friday for christmas. The jacket was a adult medium I needed to exchange it for an adult small. When I went to go exchange it with the receipt, the girl told me I could not do so because it was over 30 days old. The tags were still on the jacket and receipt in my hand. This is bad business. I finally went to the one in hamstead thinking ot was just a manager or perso problem and nope. It, s also a direct reflection of jvilles too. Case in point, I call at 1400 to c if the bow guy was coming in and I'm told he would be there at 1600. Registered my new boat at the Jacksonville NC location. The associate registered the boat in my fathers name and not mine. (we have the same name he is the third i am the fourth) They would not fix the name on the boat and it took a month of calling the nc wildlife registration to get it straightened out. When I asked the manager who goes by JR he told me that he has the same issue with his son and told me a story about his issues but the company did not call or mail the nc wildlife division to fix the issue he told me that I had to call and straighten the mixup that Eastern Outfitters messed up. A month later and my boat is finally in the correct name. No thanks to Eastern Outfitters. Prices are too high and they have no knowledge on how to properly register boats. I will have to go to Tideline marine in downtown Jacksonville next year because Eastern has no idea how to do anything correctly and what customer service is. read more

Picking up a hard to find firearm this morning, Not only did i get excellant service it was beyond what one would expect. I had inquired about this firearm and it wasnt availible at that time. BUT my name and number was taken and it was put on a call list if it became availible. Time passed and in the current climate i had given up on even finding this one gun anywhere. So i bought another gun online and thought i was done. Well a couple more weeks went by (more like a month) and my phone rang and it was E O calling to tell me my selected gun had come in. We having spent the money i had set aside . I told them that no i couldnt ask them to wait for me to come up with the money at that time . I was told on the phone that MY gun will be in the back when i do have the money and i told them no just put it in the case , Well i had told my beautiful wife what had transpired and she unknown to me called that day and put half the cost of the gun to hold it til she could get the rest. Well that was her plan but the store called me and told me what she had done . Well I know im a lucky guy forsuch a wonderful woman.
