Very nice indeed…read more Located on a long side street in the Central Business District of funky Northampton the Market specializes in the expected fruits and vegetables, but also had quite a selection of plants and flowers. The colors of the fresh vegetables was terrific- a photographers dream of orange and yellow tomatoes, purple eggplants, bright red and deep green peppers, plus the distinctive coloring of beets and carrots and sunflowers. I've seen some bigger markets, but really - if you're looking for fresh produce this should be more than enough for you to peruse. We picked up some zucchinis and a pint of "Chicken of the Woods" (not sure if its a wild mushroom or edible plant) from the Wild Edibles stand. I have to admit however that one of my main reasons for going is because they carry Ground Up flours. Ground Up is a local flour mill based in Holyoke, MA that doesn't use any kind of GMO or chemicals. This is the flour that my favorite bakery (Hungry Ghost Bread in Northampton) uses to make their delicacies. You can visually see and taste the difference in this flour. My mom who usually reacts badly to storebought gluten products has no issues whatsoever with this variety of flour. We used to think she was gluten intolerant but now we think it's probably whatever stuff they spray on wheat to keep bugs off that she's reacting too. But really, people shouldn't be consuming plants that have been sprayed by harsh chemicals or has been genetically modified which is another reason why I appreciate Dave's natural garden. People working there are really nice and help you with whatever you need.

Best place to get a gorgeous pumpkin and see a trebuchet in action…read more Last I was here, they didn't have "pick your own," but they have an outstanding supply of pumpkins in every shape, size and variety. The pumpkins are typically set out on long, handmade, weathered tables and there are hundreds to choose from. Every year, the proprietor creates a new display involving people with pumpkin heads and the outhouse display is great. This is a fantastic spot to bring your children and feel like they're had a quintessential New England experience, especially since the farm is set with a backdrop of two beautiful tobacco barns, old school tractors and a turn of the century farmhouse. Oh, and that trebuchet? It's another creation of the proprietor's. It's typically set in the field across the street from the farm and is used to periodically lob rotten pumpkins to the great beyond.

I also paid $6 for 6 Gala apples at one stand but when I bit into it later....one of the best apples I've ever eaten. There are also bakery vendors with whole wheat pizza crusts, homemade croissants, arrays of fresh flower arrangements, fresh berries, etc. Clean eating at its best. Some items are a little pricey but the quality is tangible.

Last Saturday a group of us got a whole mess of goodies from the market and then had a picnic dinner with some wine we picked up in town. It was without a doubt one of the best meals I have ever had!
