I just spent the last two weeks in suite 202 of the Kitsilano suites and it was one of the best…read moreplaces I've ever stayed. I've gotten into the habit of renting an apartment for a few weeks while on vacation and I'm always looking for interesting, comfortable, and livable places to stay and Kitsilano suites fit the bill perfectly and exceeded my expectations. There are four suites of varying size in this lovely restored historic home in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver. We stayed in the smaller upstairs studio, 202. Calling a studio is not giving it enough credit. It has more space than some apartments I've lived in! Everything is thoughtfully arranged and set up for ensure you have everything you need, no matter if you are staying one or two days or a month. The kitchen is better equipped than most homes and you can really cook up a storm in there, or just relax with some great wine, cheese and smoked salmon on the deck/porch out the back of the unit (there are great places within walking distance to buy things to eat in or dine out). Lots of thoughtful touches from the art, to the wifi, to the linens, to the slow closing cabinet doors so when you are cooking up a three course meal in the kitchen at 11:00 PM you won't disturb the other people staying here. Only two things to be aware of, if you have mobility issues you probably will have trouble climbing out of the great claw footed tube and the bed in 202 is low to the ground, but the other units might serve you better. Also, you can usually hear what is going on in the hall/stairs, so you just have to be respectful of the other guests and not go crazy when you come in late. Just ask Mark if you have any concerns. Speaking of Mark, he is the owner, and a great host. Very helpful and professional from the booking to checking in to making sure we have all we needed, or giving suggestions of things in town. Plus he is just a plain nice guy! I loved staying in his place and he is a great representative of the spirt of Vancouver. This was a perfect area of town to stay in as well. Quiet and homey but with plenty to do on 4th or on Broadway, just short walks away. We walked to many places in Vancouver, as there are tons of things to do in a 3-4 mile radius. Heck, downtown is only a 40 minute walk away! And if you are not a walker, the bus system in Vancouver is great and easy. There are a number of buses that stop near the suites that made getting around town a snap. Plus, the airport is only 20 minutes away by taxi (at least at 5:00 am!) so when it is time to leave it is a snap to get there. Next time you are in Vancouver, try Kitsialno Suites instead of a hotel. It will make your trip just that much more comfortable and memorable.

Other than the pre-reservation communications, they were hands off--which was fine for us. We also were able to leave our bags on-site after check out, since our flight out was later in the day. The room was nice and cozy. Not fancy like a newly renovated hotel, but cozy for a B&B and felt like a house in a neighborhood, rather than a 30-story hotel. So that was nice. Breakfast was great each morning. I recognized Yumiko's accent as Japanese, so we talked in Japanese (her, fluent, me, poorly). Warm pound cake/muffin, fruits, coffee, and warm bagel with eggs/smoked salmon. Was a great way to start each morning. Barclay House is a few blocks from Robson Street, so it was easy to walk to and explore. Also close to Stanley Park, so a good central location for us. The next time we go to Vancouver, we'll look to stay at Barclay House.

Urinal with porthole out to the Marina. Big tv and a couch and friendly locals watching sports. Marina is it's own community. Bowen sees a lot of flashy tourists and has many vacation houses for the wealthy - not really our thing - but this marina makes Bowen reasonable for a quick visit for a bike/hike and a shower.

Our Condo was well located in Downtown Vancouver, and easily walkable to Stanley Park, the West End, Gas Town, and places in-between. The Condo also had a nice view of the skyline and a nice living room to relax and take it all in. The unit was also clean and well appointed. There were a few "negatives": 1. The pool and gym require a walk over to the nearby Sheraton. We also found that with Uber, it's best to go over to Sheraton for pickup and drop off as the algorithm can't seem to comprehend 1080 Hornby Street. 2. Even with AC within this hot Vancouver week, the Condo was stuffy and required multiple fans to help with overall comfort. 3. This Condo had no balcony or other outdoor hangout option, other than finding a local park.

It was a quick check in and we were early but a room was ready. There are a few snacks for purchase, water refill, and tourist brochures. We headed down the ramp and towards the two elevators. For all the floors in the buildings, the elevators were pretty quick. We made our way to the 23rd floor to our apartment style hotel that we would be staying at for the next 5 nights. We entered and there was a washer and dryer, and a large closet that had the broom and a fan. I think the safe was also in the closet. The kitchen space was great to have a full sized fridge, stove, coffee maker, and lots of pots and pans and utensils. This was very convenient as we went to get groceries for breakfast every day. The seating area had a tv, and counter place for when we ate. It wasn't big and there was no dining table but it was sufficient. There was also a temperature control in this space. Both bedrooms were spacious with one having large windows with great views of downtown. The other room had a small window. There were 2 bathrooms, and one that was in the area of the smaller bedroom. The other bathroom was spacious. There's a parkade and it's secure requiring the room key to enter and exit, and also enter the elevator. We didn't have an issue to find a parking space during our stay. During our stay, they were were accommodating when we requested more coffee, paper towels, and laundry pods. The only complaints I have were that it could get noisy from all the sirens in the night, and that our bedroom could get cold at night. Otherwise, everything about this place was great! There's a games room with a ping pong table, pool table, and many books. The location was also great and convenient to be downtown.

But first well stop at the little side kitchen where you can help yourself to coffee, tea, soda and water. For a charge they also have wine and beer available. This is also where you hang your key when you leave the house so they know who is here. We got the Under the Apple Tree Room which was spacious and nicely decorated. It even had its own private yard. Also has gas fireplace, jacuzzi style tub and stand up shower. The heated bathroom floor was a nice touch. If you get tired of your room you can also enjoy sitting outside on a deck or the living room. We really enjoyed relaxing on the couch back in our room in front of the fire place. Morning came a bit too soon. Was hard to get up out of the super comfortable down blankets on the King bed. The breakfast was ready though and included three delicious courses. Polenta with almonds, banana kirsch, and smoked salmon with poached egg on toasted croissant. Yum. Virginia's breakfast was all the better by Brian's entertaining stories of 5 years in the service business now.

Our room was big and comfy with a remote control fireplace that adds real heat into the room and a large old school bathtub. Big enough for two.... Breakfast was delicious! Three courses, one of the fanciest I've had and the daytime butler service around breakfast time was a real treat. Fantastic time! I highly recommend the Thistledown house.

The living area has a very, unabstructed view of the Straits and Van. Island. A sliding door opens to a deck with grill, table/chairs, lounge chairs and provided beautiful sunsets. Our room was elegant, peaceful with just the sound of the waves on the beach. We took pictures of an Eagle whom roosted nearby. Marsha was a wondeful host guiding us to restaurants, day trip locations, etc. Breakfast was fabulous, homemade and filling. I gave 5 stars as this place deserves it.

It's very evident all the thought and care that has went into creating this beautiful atmosphere and resort. We spent nights in both the Sea to Sky Loft, as well as the Sunset Suite. Despite our suite change likely not being the most convenient for the owner Marsha, she never made us feel a bother. Both suites are incredible, it would be really hard to choose which one we preferred. The views from the Sea to Sky are breathtaking, but the space and steam shower of the Sunset are equally enjoyable. Both had propane fire pits outside, and we enjoyed cozying up in the provided robes while looking at the stars. The space was clean, and beds were very cozy. This place is a hidden gem! Marsha was so kind and hospitable, and went above and beyond to make our stay the best as can be. The breakfasts she provided were all SO good! It wasn't your average Bnb, as each morning we got to taste something new that we had never tried before. We will definitely be back! We highly recommend this Bnb. Thanks Marsha!

Had the best massage ever in the beachside cabana, the sound of the ocean just feet away, so relaxing. The day time staff were really lovely and kind. They stored our bags for a late departure, left very good instructions for a late arrival, no complaints there. The decor is tired and old. We booked two rooms (we were in the Master Suite on the ground floor and the Penthouse, despite booking 8 months in advance and asking to be on the upper floor to be closer to our kids on the top floor), one with A/C, the other without. The one without (Master Suite) was fine the first night, sweltering the remaining two. A standing fan in the room was insufficient and cut out if you went above 2nd speed. Bathroom is one step above a hostel bathroom with a 1970s spigot, no working fan either and the beds were saggy. For what we paid, this hotel really could use some sprucing up. Perhaps the other rooms are better. The master suite was not great. The Penthouse was better. The evening staff person had a 1 1/2 hour personal phone call on speakerphone reverberating throughout the house. We couldn't enjoy the common area at all because of her loud, lengthy conversation. Not the sort of B&B experience we've come to expect. A quibble about the breakfast. You have to pre-order which is totally fine, but the one day when we really needed to leave early, the breakfast didn't come to us for 45 minutes after sitting. It threw off our visit to the suspension bridge, putting us on a bus an hour later than desired and we were stuck with huge crowds. We ended up not even having the breakfast at the hotel the next day as we didn't want to have a repeat...we far preferred our wonderful coffee and breakfast at 49 parallel roasters, which I recommend too. All in all, would we do it again? If you get a spruced up room, perhaps. If you are visiting outside of the hotter times of year, sure. But avoid the master suite and if you have plans that are on the early side, make sure to let them know that you are hoping for an on time breakfast.

Our hosts were amazing and friendly and offered great advice on where to go and what to do, and the breakfast and snacks (fresh home-baked treats too!!) were delicious. The room was perfect with plenty of space and so nicely decorated to fit this historical house. Parking is complimentary which is also super great. I can't say enough about how amazing of a stay this was and would highly recommend it.
