    Review Highlights - Thistledown House

Rex, Ruth, and Liz are so warm and inviting that they make ThistleDown feel more like a home than a B&B.

English Bay Inn - 1st floor charm

This is short summary of our two night stay…read more Rooms 1, 2, 3 are on 1st floor. 4&5 on 2nd floor and room 6 is in the basement. We stayed in room #3 that has AC, This one is an en-suite bedroom. Room 3 seems to be the smallest one compare to all others. We did peek into room #1 and it was larger. Pros: #1: close proximity to English Bay and #1 rated Stanley Park. Within walking distance to many restaurants. Stanley Park has Brewery that is within 5 minute walking distance from the Inn. #2: free parking spaces (3) in the back if space is available. must request ahead of time. #3: very romantic, cozy setting with lots of furnishings to go with name like English Bay Inn. Had port wine with several glasses to use. #4: Yes, the breakfast and the friendly staff serving you in the morning. The staff is very personable and paid attention to details. Cons: #3 being the smallest, we did not have enough room to open the suitcase fully but somehow managed it. If you are big, you will definitely hate this room. Overall, we will definitely stay again and recommend to others

We just checked out, and during this time of the year (May) there are beautiful flower blooms and weather to go with the charming house. My parents booked unit 6, the attic. My husband, son, my brother and I had unit 5, the basement. For Unit 6, you enter into a seating area, then go up another flight of stairs to another small seating area, the bed area and a pretty good sized bathroom. Our basement until (in photos) has a small kitchen, small dining room, and two sleeping areas. My brother was with us just one night so he took the back bedroom, and when he left our son took the bedroom. With either situation the basement was enough room for us. If you are visiting with a child, I'd recommend booking the basement to keep the rest of the house quiet for the other guests. The only downside for the basement unit is that you don't get the wonderful breakfast with it. My parents and my husband and I switched off going to breakfast on different mornings since the attic unit does include breakfast. They thoroughly enjoyed their omelet breakfast and declared that we'll enjoy our turn the next day - and we did enjoy it this morning! We had muffins, fruit salad, and delicious Eggs Benedict with corned beef, small salad, sprouts and grilled tomatoes. A gentleman sitting in front of me had the omelets the day before and asked for fruit and cereal instead today, and they happily supplied him with what he asked for. The house is obviously an older house. It's nothing like staying at a brand new five star hotel, but you can say that's all part of the charm of it. When I visit Vancouver again, I plan to book with them again as long as they have availability. The Inn is also very nicely located. You can walk a short block down to the bay and take a nice walk one way to Stanley Park (the entrance is one block north), or walk south to a popular beach and restaurant area. If you are driving, make sure to request a reserved parking space (there are only 3). I'm a fan, and if you enjoy character and supporting small quality businesses with caretakers who want to make your trip enjoyable, book with them!

Ocean Breeze Bed & Breakfast - One of two vanities in the room.

This is a privately run B&B by proprietor, Margaret. Her dog will greet you on arrival. We rented…read morethe "Eagle's Nest" (studio with ocean view) through Booking.com because we wanted the larger space and the view. It was expensive, but I wanted a romantic weekend, so I was willing to pay a little more. She did offer the much smaller "Romantica" room when we arrived so we wouldn't have to walk up all of the stairs which we declined. The "Eagle's Nest" is in a well-converted attic space. There are drawbacks due to the nature of the room, though (slanted roof lines made getting in and out of bed tricky.) The bed itself was comfortable, but she had a protective covering on it, which made it slippery. Since we had to climb in and out at the foot of the bed, it kept trying to slide off. Easy enough to just push it back in place, though. The futon was about as comfortable as any futon ever is, but there was a nice table in the room where we could play cards. I was disappointed that the refrigerator in the room didn't seem to work. The "ocean view" is actually a view of the harbor on an inlet through a small, attic window. If the view is what you're after, get a different room. For breakfast she made omelets to order served with toast, ham or sausage, and yogurt with fruit. There is parking on the street in front of the house, but also more parking in the back. Just ask Margaret and she'll help you find it.

Margaret (the proprietor) screwed us! Do NOT trust her. Ruined our weekend!…read more For our anniversary, we were looking forward to a 3-day romantic weekend at a B & B in Vancouver. After looking for something within our price-range and location, we booked through Expedia. I called Margaret to verify the room and she offered the room to us for less money if we went directly through her. She took our reservation on April 22, 2015, and also took a credit card to guarantee the room, sending us a confirmation on April 23, 2015. "...this is to confirm your reservation in " Ocean Breeze " for 3 consecutive nights starting July 3rd- July 6th ; name of the room is romantic " Eagles Nest suite " overlooking Vancouver Harbour / Cruiseships rate $ 199.00 CAD + 18 % local tax , full breakfast is included..." We arrived very late from California on Friday, July 3, 2015, and Margaret sold our room to another party - even though it was prepaid. She did NOT hold our room - selling it to another party because she could get a much higher rate during this busy weekend. She did move us, arbitrarily, to a company apartment she rents out. We got in so late, we did not have a moment to think. Unfortunately, the apartment is located 2 blocks from very active train tracks and a main transportation street with lots of traffic waking us about 6:30 AM. Good luck sleeping through the trains coming through! If you were looking for a romantic B & B - overlooking Vancouver Harbor and conveniently located providing walking access to the Seabus to downtown Vancouver, would you want an apartment 2 blocks from the train tracks overlooking a Chevron Station and 5 lanes of traffic in a commercial zone? Friday night, Margaret even said... "we could get our coffee at the gas station in the morning!" Margaret did all this, because she was greedy and could charge more for the room than what she agreed to in our reservation. If she did this to us, she has done this before and will do it again. Maybe to you...

We stayed in "The Cottage" and enjoyed the privacy of a porch overlooking a large open field and a view of Mount Baker. Add to that a private hot tub and fire pit and what more could you expect? I guess it would be the well stocked kitchen, spacious grounds and wonderful aroma emanating from the numerous rose bushes that line the lawn area - oh, and the indoor pool, an adjacent large hot tub, and fire pit at which you can mingle with newly acquired friends. Leaving the best for last: The host and hostess are amazing! They accommodated our every need, made us feel at home, and even provided us with S'mores for the fire pit one evening. Yumm! Thanks so much, Marshall and Jackie. We will be back. ;)
