She made my daughter comfortable and really spent time with her going over traffic laws as well as what the DMV would require. My daughter waited a few months after completing the training to get more comfortable driving before she took her test and she passed first try with a near perfect score. I wanted to give a 5 star rating but I'm going to honest as the ala cart items you can buy are really not geared towards single income parents where they can't afford to pay all the lessons at once. The people who gave lessons to my daughter were good and helped a lot. She passed her test with only one wrong. The mock test they give really wasn't a mock test as they didn't cover all items but nevertheless did help. If you're looking for your teen to get lessons I do recommend them. I hope your teaching skills are better than your driving. I witnessed someone driving one of your cars down Telephone Road tonight around 5:15 and there weren't students in the car. They were weaving all over the place and almost hit several cars in the right hand lane. It was so bad, I was afraid to go around them. I would never recommend your services. Do not use this driving company! They have horrible, horrible customer service. They sent multiple texts and emails threatening to charge $100 if we cancelled within 48 hours, then cancelled on us (due to "illness"...) with less than 4 hours notice. We'd made significant adjustments to our schedule for the appointment, had to prepay for three lessons ($475), and waited 4 weeks for the appointment. Our other daughter did lessons during the height of COVID, wore a mask each time, and never had one sick call, which made their sarcastic remark of, "oh, so you want your daughter in the car with someone who is sick when COVID is on the rise?" Even more unprofessional. No, I don't want her with someone who is sick, I want another instructor or for them to pay me the $100 they threatened me with for cancelling. That's when the office manager Renee spoke to me rudely, cut me off mid-sentence, as I was asking to speak to the owner, and said "we're done" and hung up on me. I can only say that I'm so glad my child did not get in the car with one of their instructors. If this is any indication of how she would have been treated. I've let all of my friends with kids who are driving-age know this happened and not to use this company. Nice business that gets all of my money up front, but doesn't have to treat me respectfully or professionally when something goes wrong. read more

I had two lessons from the Easy Street, one was by Karen, the other was by Jonathan. Karen is awesome, she is calm, patient, and very clear with instructions, and she taught me a handful of tricks that turned out to be very useful when I was driving alone. If I had only had lessons with Karen, it would have been a 5-star rating. While Jonathan knows how to drive himself, but he cannot teach. I specifically asked him to show me parallel parking and backing into a parking spot, he only showed me the latter without having me do it myself. I could have just watched youtube videos without paying for $150 per lesson to watch someone else do it. In Jonathan's defense, he told me that no, we usually don't park backwards in a parking lot because it blocks traffic both ways. That can't be true, there are just so many real life situations that you have to park backwards in a tiny space. In a nutshell, the school only prepares you to pass the driving test, which is easy peasy, but you'll have to find a way to learn the untaught yourself to navigate city traffic. read more

This is not the best deal in town for driving lessons. For forty minutes the instructor just sat there in the car with me doing paperwork and lectured me about driving. I signed up for a behind the wheel driving lesson, not a thirty minute driving lecture. The behind the wheel portion was unsatisfactory. We did a total of about forty five minutes driving in the neighborhoods without any real experience parking, lane changing, etc. Also at the end he told me to pull up to the curb and there again we sat for ten minutes while he lectured me and did some more paperwork. He even rudely decided to take a call while the lesson was still in progress. Overall I was displeased with this service and wouldn't be surprised if all of the other "5 star" reviews were written by the associates of the company themselves (1 review only???). If you are in the Santa Barbara area, there are better deals out there as opposed to what this driving school claims. $119.00 for 2 hours with a substantial portion of it being some pointless rambling and paperwork? My child started their first driving lesson with Jonathan and it was a terrible experience. Not only was he very strange, he made my son feel completely stupid for not knowing how to drive well. It was a fight to have him go to his next lessons, but it is required for getting a license so we decided to try a new instructor from the same school. I had Garett as my instructor, my first lesson was good but the second he was a bit rude at times when I wasn't listening correctly and made mistakes. And forced me to go around a truck grabbing the wheel, when I was already starting to go, just being rude and aggressive about it. I felt more overwhelmed with holding on to how he was mean and it made me lose focus at times. When he would take the wheel and responded in a aggressive way, it put me in a bad mood for a while. Driving had always made me very anxious: I avoided getting my license until after I graduated college and I just barely scraped through the driving test. At the age of 25, I finally decided it was time to get over my fears and actually learn to drive. With over 10 years of mounting fear and anxiety, I was incredibly nervous when I sat behind the wheel for my first lesson. But Mel eased all of those fears. Throughout my five lessons, Mel managed to be both affable and firm, funny and concise, kind and direct. He structures his lessons to subtly layer in complexity: my first lesson was a silent drive around Goleta, my second lesson introduced more complex maneuvering and parking with soft background music, my third lesson Mel was joking around while introducing me to the freeway, and so on. Mel takes note of the areas where you struggle and alters the lessons to fit your needs: even after becoming comfortable with freeway and downtown driving during my final lessons, he took me around some local neighborhoods to help me tighten my right turns. Throughout all of the lessons, it never felt like I was driving with a stern teacher with a strict lesson plan; it always felt like I was being taught by some friendly uncle. I also want to give a special mention to Renee, who was very helpful and responsive when scheduling all of my lessons. In the past, I have received no response or been flat-out rejected by other driving instructors who didn't want to bother with some 20-year old who never learned to drive. In addition to busy schedules making practice difficult, I tended to be really nervous about driving at all, let alone with my parents. I am so glad I signed up for driving lessons, because it made a huge difference. My driving instructor, Mike, was funny and easy to talk to, and picked up really quickly on exactly what I needed to learn and that nerves were my biggest problem. Instead of dreading the lessons as I expected to, I looked forward to them. The lessons genuinely helped me get better at driving, and build my confidence. I passed my driving test in SB and I'm waiting for my official license now. I would absolutely recommend the lessons. Realistically its expensive, and you're going to have to have some weekends free, but if you're nervous or you don't have someone with a license that can teach you, it is SO worth it. read more

Renee was very nice and helpful on the phone, and Mel was a great instructor. I was really nervous and stressed out about driving, but he's very calm and patient, never yells or freaks out, which helped me relax. He jokes around a lot, and that helps calm the nerves as well. If you're a parent of a teen like me, hoping to cultivate a responsible driver, this driving school is probably not for you. Their focus is entirely on teaching to the DMV test. Twice my son was dropped off 20 minutes early, because "he already learned everything he needed to know". My teen was also told in his first 30 minutes of driving a vehicle that he was such a good driver that he wouldn't need many lessons and could skimp on the 50 hour DMV requirement, because "no one checks that anyway." My teen is already overconfident, so telling him he's mastered driving in the first hours of touching a steering wheel has only created more conflict at home. I wish I'd looked for a driving school more focused on instruction and teen safety behind the wheel like Teen Road to Safety. read more

Not only was Easy Street enjoyable, but it was the best experience I could have had with an instructor. Simple techniques were developed farther throughout each lesson. Something I love about ES is that if you're not comfortable with certain aspects (music, other students, advanced maneuvering. Etc) then they will gladly accommodate you and change teaching patterns in order to help you advance. I was a very shy driver and getting my license was a terrifying thing. So the woman that answered the phone was very sweet but was not aware of the law that was clearly stated on my sons permit that said if you are over 171/2 you could drive prior to your first lesson but that was no biggie. We all make mistakes, although this is her job. The first two lessons with Ryan Hawley were fine but for the third lesson My son had a different instructor who decided to go on a religious rant about how his religion was so great and how sorry he felt for my son that he belonged to the religion that he did! I'm pretty sure that I paid for driving lessons and not a religion lecture! My son was already a great driver so the courses were picked strictly on price. I am sure that had my son actually needed to learn how to drive they would have been helpful but we really could have gone without the offensive opinions. If you use this service just be sure to tell your child not to mention anything about what church they attend. I guess both the instructors and the receptionist go to the same Jehovah's Witness church and apparently it's the best! read more
