We actually watched our apartment being built which was really cool. We had an OKAY experience. To let people in the building, a guest types in your apartment number & it calls the phone number you used to set it up. For example- my fiancé & I both lived there. He was away on business & I had my parents stop by. When they came, the call went to his phone while he was out of the country & there was nothing we could do about it. He just had to let them in. The pool rules are SO WEIRD. You have bands for entry but can't have guests. Hours are strange. No music allowed. Basically no fun allowed lol There is storage underneath the building but the amount of space you get is ridiculous. Don't bother try to store your Christmas tree down there because it won't fit. You can store your bike though, it kind of just hangs on the walls. There are carts available for residents to use to bring things to & from your apartment. There are only 3/4 for 2 entrances & you're supposed to bring them down back to the door when you're done but no one ever does. Imagine going to the grocery store, coming home to get a cart & there are none, so you grab as many as you can, get all the way up to your door & see a cart someone left in the hallway- ANNOYING. People do that all the time. When you get the keys you get an actual key & a fob. The fob is what you scan in order to get into the building, you use the key to unlock & lock your door. They also give you ONE key for the mailbox. Washer & dryer in unit- HATED both. The dryer always stopped when it shouldn't have. We got the Kodiak apartment design, which we liked because there was a little nook which we thought would be perfect for a sectional couch. We were told that the nook runs through the entire building because that's where the old factory's elevator was- pretty cool! The bedroom closet we had was sad. It was barely a closet. We had zero space for our clothes. The #1 reason we couldn't stay there, we outgrew it before we even moved in. VERY nice game room & community area on the first floor near the lobby. That's where we had our housewarming party- we had 70 people come!!! I doubt they let anyone have parties there after that LOL FYI The building is along train tracks & the trains are LOUD & sometimes run in the middle of the night & early morning.

For the avoidance of doubt, if you move here, you are at the mercy of the Property Manager. To be clear, this Property Manager constructively dismisses any colleague who is smart and has an ounce of common sense or calls the Property Manager out on their lies. Two staff have left so far and the only one that is left is the one that they are able to put the fear of God into (or they are just plain stupid for staying). Here's a few updates for you since my first review: 1) The landlord does not care about you. You are nothing but a check for their shoddy construction efforts. 2). First Amendment rights are not welcome here. If you write a negative review (like here on Yelp!), the Property Manager will be sure to consult with Counsel and see if you can be evicted (which you cannot). Heck they will even send you a Cease and Desist notice based on trumped up allegations, that under a deposition at Civil Trial would be shot down because the allegations are B.S. and the accusers are friends and employees of the landlord. 3). If you withhold rent because of their shoddy construction and the fact that the unit has habitability issues, you will be sued. How dare you stand up to this landlord for their poor workmanship. 4). You offer to pay said rent just to get rid of the headache? They will limit your options in an effort to get you evicted. 5) Contractors will deal and imbibe in Schedule I drugs and then return to work. (This likely explains some of the construction issues). Does no one here care about Health and Safety? 6). Have kids? Don't move here. Contractors will whistle at minors and the Property Manager doesn't give a damn. You will be advised that Construction have been notified - doesn't help in the event that your child is kidnapped and killed. Seriously, do we know who these people are that the developer allows on site, particularly when they don't care about your complaints and rock up to the job looking like they were picked up off Rt 18 that same morning. 7). Friends of the developer will be up in your business. They know who they are and they makes no apologies for the fact that they are "a friend of the developer". B*tch, sit your ass down, no one cares, least me and if you open your rat mouth again, the community are likely going to verbally put you in your place. 8). Liar Liar, Pants on Fire. That is what our Property Manager is called. Don't address them by their name because Liar is exactly what they are. Anything to save their ass and protect their job. According to their version of events, I withheld rent because of a cracked sink and a couple of other cosmetic issues. No. I withheld rent because of your cheap construction. Issues with the air conditioning, the electrics, the overall quality of construction, the problem with the mantle getting so hot it would likely combust and a laundry list of other issues - you know, stuff you would never tolerate yourself. Guess what? If you had done your job, we would NOT be here right now, but we are because you cannot do your job. I moved to suburbia for a quiet life, to take my foot off the gas and chill out. Unfortunately, I ended up with a cowboy landlord who has henchmen to make your life a misery. Come at me bro? Do not think that I won't fight back! Your reputation as a landlord proceeds you and the community knows your true colors.

The office staff is kind, and good at their work. The apartments are old, but not a lot of wear and tear. The heat vents are not very clean, but doesn't matter as much as they still function well! Apartment amenities include heat, hot-water, water, sewage and car parking. Dumpsters are cleared out regularly. The apartments upstairs can get noisy because the rule to cover the floor with carpet is not enforced strictly enough, but thats not a lot of bother for me. Economical stay!

But I will exempt Somerville Parc because of how I've been treated and my great experience staying there. I lived in Somerville Parc for about a year. I would not have left if not only for my son's school location. There are a lot of positive things I can say about this place. The concierge is always available if I have questions or need help with repairs for my apartment. I love how secure the place is but at the same time easy access for deliveries. A very pet-friendly place. Which I love! But though I noticed a lot of dog owners, they still kept the surroundings clean. There's also an indoor dog park. Very useful especially if it's raining. The gym, though small, still has everything you need. It's also a nice area to run outdoors. I had a smooth move moving in and even a smoother move moving out. I got my security deposit within a month. Just amazing! If I need to be back in Jersey again and need a place to rent again, I will definitely go back to this place. And recommend it to anyone I know.

The pool is closed for roughly 8 - 9 months out of the year, and they've added more and more obstacles at the roof top to obstruct residence experience. There are also always random people coming in-and-out of roof top smoking, so be aware if you're sensitive to the smoke. Parking is also sub-optimal because you share the parking lot with the public. You might not be able to park in the structure after paying $200+ a month if you come home after 6PM on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Lastly, yearly raise on the rent at this place is roughly $400 * 12 month ($4,800 annually), so make sure you prep your budget. Honestly, if it wasn't because of awesome people we have at the front desk, this place would be losing residents every month.

Your car parking spots would be taken up by random cars from the public (esp if you're parking on the top deck). Hallways are not camera monitored, so you'll probably end up finding dog poop at 8am in the morning while you walk to the nearest elevator and there's nothing management can do about it. Let's see what else? Your neighbors can be inconsiderate and the walls are paper thin. Garage doors actually never works, (but you wont know this until you're already deep 2 months into your rent and you constantly see everyone complaining and management does nothing) & there have been a lot of thefts. Garage panels are caving and falling in. The side doors (by the parking deck) do not lock, so anyone can come in. You pay trash fees, but you got to constantly bring your boxes down to the trash area? Not a big deal, but I am saying you're going to pay money for something that does not make sense, Plaza square used to be great prior to Covid, but boy are we glad to move further away to the city and pay more to experience nothing of the above! The only great thing about plaza is their OG maintenance crew. Over the past 2.5 years, we've made at least 30 friends (those kind where you actually have their numbers) in the community, there's only 7 who is currently living there now due to the increasing number of issues happening within the apartment complex. Also heard (and was verified by a few current tenants) that new management lacks communication with their tenants. There was no communication/updates about the recent water pipe burst that damaged over 30 apartments and the garage. That said, we don't care if they increase the rent, but why are we paying for the same things year after year and the building 's integrity is turning for the worse?

In the first month after I moved in, my car got flooded and totaled in the parking garage. The leasing office had never mentioned the possibility of this happening. 2. The leasing office treats their tenants poorly. On one occasion, when my friend came to visit, I went to the leasing office to ask for a visitor parking sticker. The sticker was just a plastic paper, and nothing more. Unfortunately, my friend left with that sticker and threw it away during cleaning. I thought it was no big deal, as it was just a plastic paper sticker. However, the leasing office charged me $100 for losing the sticker, a mere plastic paper sticker. 3. This one is the most ridiculous incident. As our lease was about to end, we notified the leasing office of our plan to move out. They claimed there was a penalty of $4500 because we notified them too late. Supposedly, we were supposed to inform them one month before we wanted to move out. They gave us two options: 1) pay the $4500 penalty, or 2) renew our lease. After checking our contract, I found no terms stating that we needed to notify them one month earlier. I firmly refused their demands, and they threatened me, saying a lawyer would contact me soon, urging me to make a decision before it's too late. I challenged them to go ahead and sue me. Interestingly, later that same afternoon, they called and informed me they would waive the penalty as long as I wrote a positive Google review. They attempted to scam me, but realizing it wouldn't work.
