Mrs. Lee is the sweetest lady who runs this nursery. I love how it's open pretty late in comparison to other places. Helpful for when I leave the office late! They have lots of different succulents, indoor/outdoor plants, and even herbs! Their pots can be on the pricier side but the selection of plants totally makes up for it! :) read more

Update: I received a message on Yelp from the business. Rather than hospitality, apology or just checking to see what happened they wrote me a nasty hate message (personal attack). I'm shocked. So they are rude in real life and rude on Yelp. Avoid these people. They have zero interest in treating customers right. - This place is TERRIBLE. After I spent a while picking out my succulents, and seeing a huge Visa logo on their register, the owner tells me they refuse credit cards under $5. The cost was $4.50 and he refused to charge me $5. But it was the attitude - he was rude, wouldn't make eye contact. Just terrible attitude these creepy old men had the entire time, kept me waiting 10 minutes at the counter. Treated me like I had the plague or something. They were full of negative angry energy. Avoid these a-holes. Their selection isn't even great. I'll be glad to see their shop replaced by ugly condos some day. read more

They have Have Reasonable Prices and it is a little packed in there but so much beautiful plants it's a site to see I got a few cactus and the drive there was wonderful on a beautiful Saturday afternoon they accept Debit they have Lavender and succulent cactus roses! Diverse selection but the place is like the plant version of hoarders. I had to squeeze through narrow rows of pots hanging dangerously close to the edge with a toddler on my hip. Not a great place for young kids. It was as pretty busy - lots of people coming and going. There wasn't much guidance in terms of customer service but I wasn't expecting that based on previous reviews. In the end I ended up just buying a bunch of seeds, I was too overwhelmed by the place. I don't care if Mrs. Lee's English is unintelligible. She's always smiling and offers me iced tea on hot days. Plus she gives an extra plant or bag of dirt every time. Their prices are very fair and she and her husband are work horses. Support a local business, the last of the mom and pop ones along York Blvd. Pay with cash and she'll give you a discount. FYI, all of the plants and trees I've purchased there over the past few years are thriving. None died. And trust me, I'm no Johnny Appleseed. read more

I came here based on the reviews and was disappointed. I found the owners to be very strange. The lady was somewhat nice yet she would constantly pull my arms and slap my back when guiding me around the nursery. I went back later that day to exchange a plant and this time I dealt with an old man who was very rude but then he'd be nice. Talk about moodswings. At first he acted like he knew nothing about plants and would have an outburst I DON'T KNOW! Then later on he'd be like 3 hour sunshine is good for the plant! Just weird behaviour. They do have a decent selection of plants and pots. I did find their prices aren't all that, there's are nurseries that have way better prices. I wont be going back to Echo. I don't feel like being pulled, slapped and yelled at randomly. I want to feel relaxed when I'm around nature and it's beautiful plants. read more

My friends and I went to this nursery to look for some plants for their new apartment. So many plants and pots to look through! I ended up finding a monstera plant for only $15 & a pot for $14. Pretty cheap prices compared to other nurseries. Susan was very helpful and even gave us advice on how to take care of our plants. I definitely plan on coming back and recommending this nursery to all my friends! read more

Sorry, but no. The owners are nice, but. If you want new and interesting plants, this place doesn't have them. A lot of the plants are overgrown in the pots and root bound. No annuals to speak of. No bulbs. No anything, except plants that are easy to propagate. The search for a decent nursery in L.A. continues. read more

(This review is about customer service, which I say is on the low end of average). I came here for some organic soil, because I like to support local spots. The woman at the counter seemed quite stressed and irritated when I approached with my query about soil. (I'm clueless). "I have two minutes," she told me. Lol! She recommended I get a bigger bag, which was more logical and saved me some cash. She yelled to her mom to show me where to fetch my bag of soil. Family business = hearts. I've been here a ton of times and haven't left a review yet.. I think it's important that if you frequent a place to leave a review no matter how long/short to show your appreciation for them it really does help local businesses. With that being said- every time I come everyone is kind and helpful! Yesterday I came to get a bunch of plants for a new business that we are opening soon.. Renae was there to help me and she was so personable, knowledgeable and kind! I really enjoyed chatting with her and she made wonderful recommendations! She really helped a ton and my experience was awesome. I left there super happy and thankful to have went there. I've gone to a ton of nurseries and this is by far my favorite. There's so much variety, the plants are beautiful, they are a really good price and I always tell people to check out this gem. The Lee's are the best and I love their nursery. I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years now and have visited Echo Garden dozens of times and purchased lots of plants. The first time I visited their shop a few years ago, their son was kind enough to deliver a couple of large plants I purchased because they wouldn't fit in my car. Just last night I picked up four plants and Mr Lee wrote watering instructions down for me (I didn't ask him to do this). It's true they have a ton of clutter and knick knacks-it's part of the charm. This is my only Yelp review ever, that is how much I loved Echo Garden. The owners are the cutest older Asian couple. There is a huge selection of plants and pots and at the lowest prices I've seen in LA. Everything is healthy and adorable. They also have a bunch of interesting pots, like cups etc, and some look vintage and like awesome garage sale finds. They have tons of soil too. I could have spent all day in there. "Caitanya M.'s" review is rude and stuck up (among MANY others here, very disappointing)- the owners are immigrants and there is a language barrier there so if they seemed "marginally helpful" that is why. I understanding wanting more help, if you are there have a million questions and do not feel comfortable asking them, maybe Google it. There are language and cultural differences but I had zero issues getting help and they were very kind. Also, I'm sure money is tight and hiring a bunch of other employees is hard. Secondly, of course there are flies and it "hardly smells pleasant" because it is an outdoor garden store... there is mulch with guano and manure, etc. read more

I've passed by the Nursery for years traveling up and down York. Friday, I was going by and saw a big healthy Bougainvillea tree on a trellis. I had to stop and see how much. It was such a good price that I had to get it along with a Meyer Lemon tree. Mr Lee delivered it along with some extras....FOR FREE! (delivery and extras was free.... not the plant) I will definitely be going back for some herbs, strawberry plant and perhaps another tree! read more

Can't say enough about this place. Found the cheapest Fiddle Leaf Fig there, got a classy looking planter to go with it, AND Mr. Lee sent me home with a bottle of delicious blueberry wine. It is a MAZE! But a maze of everything. And if you ask they are helpful--might need to show them a picture because there's a little language barrier at times. Unless the owners daughter is there (possibly weekends only). I had my two year old with me who loved it and they gave him a little plant to take home--very sweet. But honestly they have every plant, planter, dirt and plant food all at great prices. Will be back for sure! We got: two English ivy plants, four ranunculus flowers, a 15 gallon wisteria plant and large ceramic potter (very large!), two bags of dirt and flower food. Went to Echo Garden to look for cacti and spent about 30 mins looking around with friends. My roommate decided on a plant she liked but was unsure about the pot size so we decided to go home and come back later and when walking out the owners began screaming at my friends and I after not even speaking to us and saying we were shoplifting all because of having a bottle of kombucha in my hand while shopping. They then proceeded to follow us to the car open the car door and scream and cuss. When showed them the drink they realized they were wrong, didn't apologize and said don't come back. We were looking at $75 plants.... absolutely have never have I stolen nor would I from my local shops. So sad for such a terrible experience when all I wanted to do was support a local business over Home Depot. Would absolutely never treat a neighbor and customer with the disrespect she and her mother did. read more

If I could, I would give these people negative stars. I had been looking forward to going here for a while and while my friends and I did enjoy a few of their plants, the service was-for lack of a better term-absolute shit. No one was around to greet or even ask questions and by the time we were ready to leave we were accosted by the shop owner's daughter because she thought we had taken something. Neither me nor the people I was with had anything but the drinks in our hand we entered with, but for some reason they thought we had taken something. She then had the audacity to walk to my car, open the door and ask if we took something. When we told her we didn't and showed her our empty hands, she then proceeded to take photos of my license plate. Upset by this interaction, my friend and I got out of the car to show her we had taken nothing and to tell her she was welcome to search us. When she realized her mistake she still didn't apologize. We explained that we were happy to support her business and we had every intention of coming back after finding the right pot size for the plant I picked out, but after this interaction we would not be returning. Her crazy daughter ran out and yelled to "do them a favor and not come back." Needless to say, we will never return to this establishment. Watch out for the crazy and extremely disrespectful woman on your way out and be sure to show them you bags and hands to avoid any absurd accusations. read more

Years ago when this nursery used to be in echo park, Mrs. Lee made me a forever customer when she brought me some iced barley tea on a hot day. Often times I've walked out with multiple plants and she will throw in a free one on my way out. It's packed with all types of plants, and it really is what you see what you get type of business. Makes me sad to see so many negative reviews against a older couple who work their behinds off in the hot sun daily. For true plant lovers this place is a gem and always full of surprises. This is a real nursery, not a little garden store comparable to Home Depot's garden department. Mr. Lee and his main helper (wife perhaps?) are very helpful and knowledgeable, and they are constantly tending and propagating the plants themselves. This place has a small footprint but TONS of plants, trees, pots, and garden design stuff. You will find yourself tiptoing through narrow spaces and not everything is perfectly marked, but they're very willing to help when you need it. If you buy enough stuff you'll often get a little gift of some kind. The prices are pretty reasonable. It seems like the kind of place where you might be able to negotiate the price, but if you try you'll hit a brick wall every time. :-) read more

Went there for my first time Monday. Greeted with some fresh iced tea upon entering. Prices pretty much the same as Home Depot on the items I purchased but much higher quality! Went to check this place out despite all the reviews saying that the owner was rude. I guess I got lucky because I had a very positive experience. Not only did I get a great deal on the plants I purchased, but the owner was nice to me. He helped me find a box that was a better fit for the number of plants I had, then he asked me if I was ready to check out and when I said "yes" he put out his cigarette before getting behind the register. I plan to go back for more plants and pots/planters. It's overwhelming at first, but once you get a feel for the layout, it's game on! So much fun in such a little space! If you want to know what rude is, go to Foothill Nursery in Sylmar and try speaking to any of the women working in the sales office. It's very clear that English is their first language, but good luck getting more than one word out of them if you have a question. They are incredibly curt so unless you're ready to fork over some cash (that's all they take) they could care less about providing anyone with good customer service. read more

I attempted to shop here this morning. I arrived around 8 am, well within business hours. It was open for business when I arrive but when I tried to leave without buying anything because their plants are nearly dead, I could not leave because the only attendant left and locked me in! I waited. I shouted. I called their phone number but no help. Frustrated, angry and anxious I called 911. The fire department came to the rescue and had to cut the chain link fence to get me out. The attendant, who must have been in the area, came when he saw the fire truck. He did not apologize nor give an explanation. That is not the worse though. When I called two hours later the woman who owns the place was not aware of what had taken place. She told me the attendant must have had an emergency and did not see me and that she didn't have time to argue with me and hung up on me while I was still talking. I'm so grateful to have this place nearby. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the plants are of course great as well -- particularly the succulents. Not too large of a nursery, but jam packed with plants so the isles are very narrow. We found a particular hibiscus we'd been unsuccessful at finding at different nurseries and another plant which we thought was a good deal. I think it's Korean owned, and the staff were nice and helpful. We're super glad to have found this place and plan to return. read more
