When I first walked in I kid you not, I felt under dressed as the salon is modern and feels high class. How I came to the salon...well...my dad has been going here for a while said I had to try it out and lets be real...if your dad said hey go to my salon what do you picture. Some old barber shop in some sketchy part of Edmonton where some 80year old man named Joe has the shakes and sits you down with a buzzer. Um no thanks. Long story short I got a gift card from him for this salon and was like hell why not. Now Christina Domenelli, not the salon the actual person. Yes she's an actual person who owns the salon and works there too. CRAZY I know. She is just WOW! She's this hot little mama who is so down to earth, realistic and just great! I'm planning on getting my hair and makeup done at this salon for my wedding next year and she goes WAY beyond the limits. I feel bad that the last reviewer didn't have a good experience, but I do understand that this isn't a salon for everyone. I've had a couple colourings and cuts that weren't exactly what I had in mind but they will work with you to get you what you want. My only complaint and biggest issue is the cost, it is expensive. My last cut and colour (highlights) that I got was damn near $400, I almost cried. A lot of salons offer the same thing for a fair bit less.

My experience at this salon was nothing short of magical, they managed to balance my hair and dye it a beautiful chocolate brown with nothing peaking through. They made me feel so comfortable, and the quality of everything exceeded my expectations. Quinn and Mary Jane did my colour and cut, and Mary Jane even put rollers in my hair after because she knew I was attending a party. I can now say that I will be a very faithful client of theirs from now on. The best part, it was completely fair pricing with a very expensive feeling experience. As somebody who has been to a lot of salons in Edmonton, I feel like I've found my salon home. Highly recommended.

She cut my sides and bangs VERY short, nothing like what I SHOWED her I wanted. I told her I wanted something feminine, hair on the sides I could sweep forward, and even showed her a past photo of when my bangs had been butchered (I told her I feel anxious every time I come to the salon because of awful cuts I've received like it) and she went ahead and cut them too short anyway saying that we would start with that and could always cut them shorter if I wanted. I showed her photos of what I thought was feminine vs young and funky. I did NOT get feminine. (I'm also 50!) I asked that my highlights not be spikey, I showed her a photo with more chunks, but was given spikey - and a copper colour, not the auburn I asked for. I returned a few days later to ask her to shave the sides and back one shorter so there was contrast between the top and sides. I felt the need to talk to her about how upset I was. While talking I told her that I was very disappointed with my cut and that it wasn't what I asked for. She agreed with me that 1) my head was an odd shape now with this cut 2) that it was NOT going to grow out nicely (another thing I told her was important to me and after two weeks it is already sprouting up in odd spots), 3) to keep my cowlick in mind (big hole there now that she agreed was hard to deal with) and 4) I should probably see a barber next time instead of going to a salon because they would be more qualified with a cut like this. With tip (that I absolutely regret paying) I paid over $250 for this. She seemed nervous during the cut, she didn't show me the sides or back with a mirror so I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home, and when you go to pay and the guy at the counter can't muster up a "you look great!" (despite what he thinks), it makes you feel awful. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning. She couldn't even offer the slightest apology.

The facial was another day. I've never had an Aveda facial and it was lovely. Very soothing and no overpowering scents. When I lived in Edmonton in the 90s, I found Hairisma in 1992, and it was the only place I went for the final four years I lived there. Even if I knew I was visiting, I waited to cut my hair until I visited and booked a haircut here. The stylists here are pretty busy because they have a lot of clients so it's good to book in advance and not just walk in. They are excellent at what they do, and I remember them getting my cuts right every single time. Believe it or not, several of the gals I went to in 1992 are still cutting hair here. That's longevity! They also use Aveda products so quality is tops for what they are putting in your hair. Randomly thought of this place the other day while talking to my parents who are also longtime-loyal clients at Hairisma. This will probably be the only review I write for a salon, but it's an excellent one!

We'll often book back to back family appointments and a few of us will go shopping or errand running while the other is getting hair cut or coloured. We were all happy with our service, and she asked the right questions to get the best results. I booked a follow-up full colour and cut so that will be the true test. The salon is clean and bright, but has a welcoming unpretentious atmosphere that I appreciate. They serve coffee and tea, and had a ring pop for my little that she definitely appreciated.
