OK, it's a little weird to already be missing our landscaping crew -- but Dan, Dave, Jason and Mike were such an absolute joy to work with that we want them to just hang out with us in our new garden all the time. All of the great reviews here on Yelp are absolutely on target. Starting at the beginning: Dan was extraordinarily detailed in walking us through a variety of options at various price points to tear up our ugly grass and the remains of a strawberry patch, and replace it with beautiful plantings. He came up with a lovely design the first time around -- then graciously modified it a couple of times after I went out and bought two sets of chairs and a table that hadn't been part of what I told him about to begin with and thus didn't fit the original designs. At his request, I sent him a Pinterest board with ideas of what we like, and he paid close attention and got it exactly right, including the cool winding path in one section. He wisely and politely rejected a couple of plant requests, explaining why they wouldn't work or were simply a bad idea. Dave, Jason and Mike were very friendly, diligent and efficient -- and most of all, outstanding in their work in tearing up the grass and installing the new beauties. Dave spent a lot of time talking with us about plant care, pruning, watering and timed sprinkler operation (on top of the detailed written instructions that Dan provided). Outstanding landscape design and installation! When we moved to Manayunk from just outside Boston, we bought a house that had a small yard covered in crabgrass. We showed Dan the plot, which was both steep and narrow. Some is in full sun, and some in deep shade. He created a beautiful design using native plants that will attract pollinators, butterflies, and birds. The combination of small evergreens, bushes, and many different perennial flowering plants, bulbs and ornamental grasses looks just beautiful. He and his crew worked hard over several days to prepare the land by digging out the crab grass. They put in weed-suppressing fabric, mulch and stones to make a small rock garden and stepping stones, a walkway, and also river rocks under an overhanging deck. Then they carefully planted one hundred twelve different plants and bushes and two small trees. They installed a drip irrigation system on a timer placed to water the plants just enough, and placed rocks to make sure the runoff soaked in correctly. They waited and watched to see where the water went and adjusted as needed. It's clear that Dan's expertise comes from a thorough knowledge of horticulture and also years of experience. The crew also clearly takes pride in their work. We couldn't be more pleased. We will post pictures in the spring when the plants are in bloom. read more

Wow! A great experience with Dan Clearly and EcoLandscapes. They have transformed an ugly Center City patio into a handsome space with hardy native plants and a simple watering scheme. Details: There was a quick response to my initial call; Dan came out on time to see the situation. Took a number of pictures of the patio. After a slight wait, responded with a couple of alternatives, accompanied by pictures of the recommended plants, and a "PhotoShopped" view of how the patio would look. His advice and taste were outstanding, since I had little idea how to handle this difficult, dark space. Dan communicates very well, and I could supply a few needed details, leading to a simpler process with some savings. He came on the dot of the agreed time to do the work. He and his crew were very careful, since the only access to the patio is through the house itself. It was all very interactive; Dan checked to be sure on details that had not been discussed earlier The job went like clockwork, and at the end of the day I have a gracious place I can use. These guys redid my front yard and it looks AMAZING! It went from lots of grass with a couple of bushes near the front of the house to flowers and plants and butterflies and honey bees. in two big planted areas. It now has a stone stepping path t the front door, which looks incredible. The team was on time every day, very nice, listened to my concerns, and worked in the 94 degree heat without complaining. Don't worry, they came early and left around 2 so they did not roast to death. Dan was great to work with on the design as I know very little about plants, but I knew I wanted lots of flowers and a natural design. Dan came up with the idea of putting little boulders which I love. They hooked up a sprinkling system and provided me information about how to care for the yard. Tony, Dan's partner, even took extra plants and had them planted in my backyard, clearing out the weeds as part of that, which they did not have to do. Once all plants are gown out, it was will be even more beautiful. Love these guys and would hire them for my yard anytime. read more

We had Dan do a couple of relatively small projects for us last year (fall of 2019 - spring of 2020). The first one (fall of 2019) has worked out beautifully, and the plantings came roaring back this spring. That area went from scraggly to lush and beautiful, and we couldn't be more satisfied. The second project didn't fare as well over this past winter - some of the plantings didn't make it back. We had Dan and his team take a look, and without any argument they stepped up with new plants to replace the ones that died. But, more important, Niki took the time and trouble to come out and look the project over and diagnose the possible issues so she could select plants that had the best chance to succeed in that location. She replaced and added plants, explained what she was doing and why, and made sure we were happy with her redesign before she went to work. The updated area looks tremendous, and we're hopeful that there won't be any further problems. Dan and his team are definitely the people to call for landscaping. read more

I've lived in my Mt.Airy rowhome for over 20yrs. and always wanted to do something with my small,awkward,driveway space but never knew what. After my Son Tim passed in 2020 I knew I wanted a Memorial garden. Dan came out to meet with me and see the space in a reasonable amount of time. It was such a pleasure to work with Dan and his team at EcoLandscapes Design. Our project involved the installation of a new plant bed, including many plantings carefully chosen for suitability to our property's ecosystem, along with beautiful stepping stones, river rock, and several mid-sized boulders. All of the stepping stones, river rock and boulders were selected deliberately to mimic similar material around our swimming pool. The new garden was cleaned, mulched and watered. The crew cleaned the surrounding area and rinsed the river rock in order to wash away the rock dust and create a beautiful appearance. Dan was extremely efficient and reliable to work with in scheduling a plan and date for the work. They really work with what you are "dreaming up" and make it happen within your budget. Dan Cleary, owner of Ecolandscapes designs and installs absolutely beautiful landscapes. He and his crew are professional, responsive and pleasant to work with. If you have any questions before, during or after installation, Dan responds immediately, which is rare today. He came back twice after installation to explain the growing patterns of some of the plants as they mature. In the pictures below you'll notice that some of the plants are growing very close together. This design will reduce the need to weed in the future. Most of the plants installed are native to the area, don't need much watering and bloom at different times. I looked at other designs before going with Ecolandscapes but none came close to what Dan put together. Others tried to impose their ideas but Dan worked with us and created it around our ideas and needs. Couldn't recommend more highly. read more

Dan and his team removed all the overgrown plants, shrubs and vegetation from the sides and the front of our house. We gave Dan a general outline of what we were looking for with our house design, and he came up with a plan that was spot on the first time. He was also very helpful and willing to tweak the design as we decided to incorporate replanting some small beds near the road. Dan was very responsive -- he even answered his phone on Saturdays when we expected to leave a message -- and was flexible with the dates to accomplish the work. Dan and his team were very friendly and professional and worked hard to complete the job in a short amount of time even with a delay for a wasps' nest in one of the bushes. From beginning to end Tony was great to work with. I had a series of things done to my home in Plymouth Meeting and not only was the price reasonable but they did exactly what they said and more. Arrived on time, worked quickly and respectfully and even added a few extras at no cost. They had made a recommendation to transplant a few trees to a new area of the property and didn't add any cost.
