I just learned today these products are marketed under the Atkins, Quest, and Atkins Endulge brand names. I just purchased my second box of Quest. I remember the first time I tried Quest I didn't care for it. This time I purchased the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough based on a recommendation from my Chicago Yelp Friend Thomas after he ate one. First note it was absolutely delicious soft and chewy. Second note I am concerned because this company has been involved in misleading label information regarding calorie content and ingredients. I admit I do buy these nutrition products for the low carb and high protein content. I found that these products especially Atkins do not raise my blood sugar. My cholesterol levels also went down for about six months until I returned to dairy eating. I do stay away from the nutrition shakes and drinks or anything with fruit flavors. I believe the lawsuit involved artificial fruit flavors that were passed off as fruit. You can look it up!! I'm recommending Quest and Atkins Nutrition products. They have me addicted. Just wish that they were a little less expensive, and those that are didn't feature a "nut blend" containing cashews (which are neither raw nor okay for those of us who prefer to avoid inflammatory/acid forming elements). I prefer the Soul Sprout over the other granola bars (boxed, containing oats), which are rather horrible with an unpalatable texture (sorry). Other than that, I quite like what I've tried. =)

This is related to Dollar Groceries and Home Style Foods (the latter of which I have previously reviewed) a bit further south, but has somewhat different ownership. Coolers abound with different meats (goat, stockfish, free-range chicken, beef skin) and greens (feverleaves from Liberia [the owner's homeland] and Sierra Leone, bittergreens from Cameroon) as well as hot peppers, Kenkey (Ghanaian fermented corn dough), Safu (Congolese plums) just to name a few. Not to be outdone, the shelves are packed with numerous types of corn, beans, and rice, plus juices from Pakistan and ginger biscuits originally brought to West Africa from the United Kingdom. Speaking of the latter, more snacks such as plantain chips, sesame candy, and Chin-Chin (Nigerian sweetened/spiced dough bites) can be found by the register. And they even sometimes have grab-and-go food, like a combination tray of Waakye (millet-leaf rice) from Ghana with meat, spaghetti, and a hardboiled egg. All of this has ensured that my first two trips to Global Village will not be my last.

The sauce and I think Jasmine rice was perfect together. Fragrant and spicy and addictive. Then we tried the Lithuanian Dumplings. I feel like I know dumplings. I've had them just about everywhere in the world. These were exceptional! Cooked to perfection. I don't exaggerate. No tough and doughy skin here. Perfectly cooked so the skin gives easily and the juices flow into your mouth with the meat and the (Creme Fraiche I think!) mixing to create a hugely satisfying mouthful. This guy is so creative. I will be back to see what his next menu has to offer!
