2 stars is a bit a of stretch..im rounding up and being nice since it was only $50. Should have done more research..had a lot of success recently with 'express deals" on priceline but this was not one of them. Looks like it's been in need of major upgrades for 20 years. Old is one thing but dirty is another. Staff was nice but it stunk and we had ended up leaving and staying at the 4 Points (which was excellent). I should have grabbed some photos..it wasn't just old - somethings were eerie and strange like arbitrary splotches of paint and crooked doors. The TVs were nice a modern...you think they would have done some other fixes and upgrades first. read more

Stay away!!! I was one of the fortunate ones that had a refurbished room,,,however,,,,there were no towels,,,,and poor reception on the TV. When I asked for towels,,,they were refused siting that house keeping was unavailable after 5pm and I needed t I wait until after 8am the following day. The grounds were absolutely horrendous and I awoke to a ruckus nearby at 1:22 am. Needless to say,,,I spent a very restless night not trusting the environment and dealing with a non existent GUEST experience. If I could give this dump zero stars, I would. This is the most disgusting hotel in which I've ever stayed. My husband and I had never before been to Scranton but, after driving several hundred miles from New England, decided to spend one night in town before driving home to D.C. My husband made the reservation on his phone while I was driving; if we'd been able to read all the horrible reviews, there's no way we would have booked this dump. After finally finding the hotel, no easy task, at around 10 p.m., the first thing we noticed was a stop work order that had been posted the day before on the front door. The hotel had started renovations without getting the appropriate permits, never a good sign. At the front desk, my husband overheard another guest ask for a different room because hers was overrun with cockroaches and she had her baby with her. I did not see any cockroaches in our room, but we couldn't watch TV because the volume had only one setting: deafening. It was just too late to find another room in a city we'd never visited. When I went to take a shower the next morning, I noticed hair and other materials in the bath tub. No TV, and no shower for us. The hallways were literally crumbling, the wallpaper and paint peeling. Choice Hotels, which owns the EconoLodge brand, gave us 8000 points to make up for our experience, but Harron Patel, the manager, didn't even have the courtesy to respond to my email, let alone refund the more than $90 we spent to stay less than 12 hours in that dump. Unquestionably the worst motel I've ever had the misfortune of staying a night in. I was looking for a reasonable room for 4 nights so booked here. I knew it was a mistake as soon as I saw the parking lot and building. Dilapidated and run down is being generous. But thought if the room is clean i could stomach my way through for four days. Entering the room, first thing you notice is the filthy carpets in the hall. I'm guessing they don't own vacuums. Inside the room i killed 3 cockroaches in the first ten minutes. Black mold surrounding the bathtub. Mattress and box spring appeared water stained. There's families living there, couples arguing, babies crying. I checked out first thing next morning. Despite the disgusting conditions, they refunded to credit my account back for the other 3 days. Choice Priveliges was notified of the unscrupulous actions. Never. Ever. EVER. Stay at this location. I'll never stay at another econolodge. They don't deserve even one star read more

It isn't even worth a half star. I reserved a room with a King bed and hot tub in it. I get there to a room with two double beds and not hot tub. Went back to the front desk and ask about it and she tells me they don't guarantee the room because I booked 3rd party. At this point I am heated. She was very rude. I go back to the room and look around. I almost fell through the floor so many soft spots. The ac didn't even turn on. They are using space heaters in the rooms. Which is a fire hazard. I went back up and checked out told them to issue me a refund. Oh and door didn't even lock. I ended up going 20 miles up the road to Wilkes-Barre and had a great weekend. I stayed here for just one night. It was the least expensive hotel I could find in the area. And as I stayed here, I could see just why the place was so inexpensive. As I walked through the halls, before I even got to my room, the walls smelled of mildew. When I got in my room, that hardly smelled much better. I wanted to open my windows for air circulation, but the windows couldn't open. Then I looked at the windowsill and noticed a bunch of dead flies. I lifted the blanket off my bed and saw lots of little stains all over the sheet. I couldn't tell if they were blood stains or some other type of dirty stain, but they were not comforting. I was afraid that I was going to get sick from spending one night in this hotel (but I didn't). I'll mention that there's nowhere to eat in walking distance of this hotel (at least none that I could find). I took a very short drive to Davis Street where there were a bunch of restaurants, but none looked like a place I'd want to eat at. I ended up going to the Sunoco Gas Station, buying a box of cereal, some milk, and a bottle of water. That was my dinner that night. I guess you get what you pay for. I was looking to save some money, and by staying here, I did. The place was safe, and I did not get sick from staying here one night (as I feared). But next time I visit Scranton, I'd likely go somewhere else. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!! It stunk like cigarettes even in the non smoking rooms. I stayed in a non smoking room and the smoke detector was literally taped over so the previous stayers could smoke. The blanket had a cum like substance and I wished it was a stain so I wiped it a wet rag...sure enough it was not a stain...the blanket had not been cleaned. The worst part is, in the morning we found a bed bug crawling around ON THE BED!! We told the person about it when we checked out and he didn't really care but make us sign our name under a good phone number. About a week later we got a link to pest control. Just a link. This hotel was the filthiest hotel I've ever stayed in! There is no handicap Accessibility. The parking lot is Terrible with potholes everywhere. When I got into the Room the air conditioner wasn't working very well, so I decided to check the air filters. To my surprise the air filters were absolutely filthy! The floors were filthy that you could not even walk across them in your bare feet! There were cigarette butts in the drawers of the nightstand! The towels were stained! Super old motel. We knew it was not going to be a relaxing stay even before going into our room. The door was splattered in brownish color, looking like murder scene cover-up. The entire room is so outdated and is in desperate need of renovation. You feel like you warped back into the 70s. It just doesn't make you feel very comfortable being in the room. It's $50/night. This place sucks!!!! The website shows beautiful pictures of an outdoor pool. We arrived to learn that the pool is permanently closed and looks like it has been closed for years. Many lights do not work in room. Though the sheets were clean, the mattress was nasty. The window in the room has not been cleaned for a very long time. The manager is mean and rude. How does he keep his job? Maybe is related to owner???? I reported a problem with A/C to manager and his response was "hand in keys and leave.....I have no other rooms available. Save yourself!! I checked in and checked out all within 5min. Dirty! Dirty! Dirty! Smelly, words cant describe. Carpet in halls were dirty. The stairs were stickey. The paint on the doors to the rooms were chipping off. Now you get into the room and it didnt smell any better, there was a plastic knife in the closet w 1/2 of a broken hanger on the floor. The bed had cig burns in the top quilt in a non smoking room. The carpet had crumbs in the corner w other unknow food between the wall and fridge. If I could give a zero I would. There are cigarette burns in the bed, stains on the sheets, hair and dead skin in the shower, it's smells like old people and smoke. This place is terrible. The Grinch wouldn't touch this place with a 39-1/2ft pole. I've seen homeless people with nicer cardboard boxes than this place. It's a surprise there aren't any cockroaches or some sort of animal living here. I wouldn't want my worst enemies living here. If this was a prison it would be cruel and unusual punishment. Hmmmm! It's more like 2.5. We came up to Pocnonos, PA for the 4th of July Week and we were short one night stay at our nicer hotel. So the closest hotel to us was this. We gave it a shot. Hey for $50.00 a night it wasn't that bad. The front desk people were very nice. The hotel itself needs some serious updating..HOLY CRAP! It's like you're in the 70's. Our room is super outdated, but clean! There is a microwave and fridge in the room. Our bathtub was pretty nasty when we got here and we washed it out before taking showers! There were gross hairs all in it. Yelch.. There is free breakfast. It's just muffins, cereal, juice and coffee. FREE wi-fi!!! If you MUST stay someone cheap and safe..Stay here! If you want something really nice, go somewhere else. It was perfect for one night. read more

The only good thing about this hotel was the shower that allowed you to clean the filth off you after you saturated in it for hours. The mattresses were lumpy, and there were large blood stains (looked like a murder scene) on them. We paid $70 for this, so it was cheap, but we didn't expect this... it smelled terrible, and the windows wouldn't even open! Safe to say, the only thing we did in this hotel was sleep, and then we barreled out the door. In addition, the door looked like it had been kicked in several times... it would barely even close. The walls were moldy, as were the ceilings in the bathroom. Most of the furniture was ruined, including the refrigerator which leaked all over our floor. Some of the channels didn't have volume on the TV, and the appliances were extremely outdated. I would've stayed at a nicer hotel, but they were all booked in the area... honestly, I would rather have slept in the car. An hour or so into being in my hotel room, i took notice that there was black mold all over the walls and ceiling in the bathroom, there were ROACHES, running all over the walls in my room and in the hallways. The bed sheets were covered in what i think was urine. I had spoken with the on-site manager about the condition of this room and that i wanted a refund. He told me if it's one or two roaches just step on it, he wouldn't allow me a change of room or a refund. I had left and unfortunately got beat for my money!!!! read more

Listen....this place got a bad rap....when my friend was in between apts with 2 cats....he stayed there for a month for 700 bucks.....after paying 560 for boarding them for 2 weeks.....is it the nicest place? O my goodness what can i say about this place. First it looks like trash from the outside. Like an abandoned hotel. The view is horrible. The guy in the front from Indian decent was so rude. Like he was mad because people reserved a room. The hallway has holes from people punching the wall. Once you go in your room the smell of mildew is over powering. The ceiling in the bathroom is stained from a leak from upstairs. The grout in the bathroom it like cracking cement. The bathtub wall has holes. The bed was dirty. They used the same sheets. Pillows where old and flat. Ice machine was so dirty. Internet didnt work and the breakfast is watery coffee. I checked in on a Saturday night. All the other hotels in the area were reserved so I had to settle for Econo Lodge. Surprisingly the price was reasonable @65 without any reservation. You get what you pay for. Not so clean rooms, very very dirty corridor. Sorry I meant filthy corridors with the directions to the rooms indicated on the wall by black markers. Bed sheets were dirty as well and I barely slept thinking I would be leaving with bed bugs. I do not have really high standards, I have slept in cheaper places, however they still always cover their basics - clean beds and corridors without smell. This was not the case at Econo Lodge. We booked a 3 night stay at this hotel. We called one day in advanced to ask a couple of questions and a Indian accent man answered the phone and was extremely unprofessional. He hung up on us several times and refused to give us his name. Before even going into this resident we can already see that all the terrible reviews are true. This hotel also false advertises. Online it says that an outdoor pool is available and this is not the case, the pool is closed and won't be open for the remainder of the summer. It's OK, the rooms are clean enough when you get there, and they have a pretty nice TV with a lot of channels, there's actually a remote for the TV ( basically that's not "standard" anymore with motels across the USA) there's a microwave and fridge and table in your room, and since I had gotten the AAA discount on a double-bed room there was a couple of USB plugs and a bunch of electric plugs above the nightstand in between the beds, which I take it is to charge your cell phones and laptop or whatever electronic devices you might have; there was also a guest directory book with the TV channel listings in it (also not available in most motels these days). There were little soaps and shampoo/conditioner and a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board in the room; had I chosen to avail myself of these things. So in other words it's set up like some kind of long-term stay hotel. Now, on to the problem. I don't recommend staying more than one night here. I said it SEEMS to be set up for long-term stayers. DON'T. It serves breakfast in the mornings and there's a tray in the bathrooms of the rooms for going to the lobby and taking breakfast back to your room with you - a trick I learned at the Super 8 years ago the last time I stayed at a Super 8. Don't. I did that for 5 days and by the 4th day even though none of the staff (housekeeping every day) said anything to me directly, they had the front-desk guy tell me that they'd "seen me on camera" and basically thought I was STEALING by taking breakfast foods back to my room with me. On the tray that was provided. Now, I had to tell him that if they really were looking at the cameras they would have been able to TELL that it was mostly multiple cups of coffee because their coffee out of the machine is so WEAK that you need more than one cup to wake up. He argued with me to no end, what I take from this is that the place must be full of homeless people living there and stealing? Or else that because I stayed more than one day that was the assumption about ME and that I was some kind of homeless person, stealing? The notion that I must be "feeding other people besides yourself in that room" came up, so there's that. I'm going to chalk up the assumption that I was homeless as some sort of racism and leave it at that. In short, it's probably OK for a ONE-DAY stopover but PennsylTucky being what it is, don't stay more than one day if you're not white. Plenty of white people stay there more than one day, take as much food as they want at breakfast time, and seem to have no problems whatsoever. I suppose if you just grab ONE of those weak little cups of coffee and that apple-WATER they call "juice" on your way out the door as you're checking out, it's OK. Oh, and the free wi-fi included was a good thing; it worked well enough to stream movies and TV shows if you can't find what you want on the TV. read more
