This was by far the worst experience I ever had. When I checked in, everything was fine, until we got into the room. As soon as I opened the door it smelled like mold and mothballs Which is not a big deal, I kinda expected from an old hotel/repurposed train station. However what I didn't expect were the carpet floors being slight wet/moist and finding toe nail clippings. That made the whole situation feel worse. On top of that when we first arrived on Saturday night There was an open water bottle sitting at the corner of the black bench on the fifth floor where we stayed.. when we left on Monday late morning 11am, the water bottle was still there. I had to take a picture of that before leaving because it just proved to me how the cleaning crew and staff management manage their cleanliness in the building. When I first arrived with 40 min of getting situated, I had security knocking on my door checking to see if we had kids and if they were alone. Apparently there was a noise complaint saying they only heard kids and no parents and were concerned. That felt very odd to me. I informed the front desk how I felt and if I could just leave that same day and not stay over night, the lady said she will still charge for the room regardless of my experience. I DID NOT want a refund for 1 day , I just simply wanted to cancel my over night stay and not get charged for the 2nd day. The front reception lady was rude and didn't seem to care. I kindly ask to speak a manager or any supervisory on duty to see if there's a way I could just simply leave and not pay to stay the night if I left the same day in the early afternoon so they can resell the room and make their profit. The front desk lady rudely said no they don't have any manager and said I can leave a voicemail. I am disappointed because I traveled from out of state to stay in this hotel because of all the fun cool haunted stories. I didn't care that the room smelled like moth balls or mold. I just didn't enjoy walking on wett moist carpet and old toe nail clippings. The first room and the lack of empathy from the staff member. This could have been easily resolved with any supervisor or manager. But the lack of care resulted in me putting my real genuine experience. read more

Awful stay. I have stayed here before and already knew it was not a high-end hotel, and that's ok - I was not expecting that either. However, regardless of where I stay, I demand a clean room. This is not what we had. The hotel has a strict non-smoking policy as we were told upon checking in. This is great because we do not smoke. The minute we stepped into our room, the odor of smoke was overwhelming. We called the front desk to have our room changed, and then learned from the staff that the hotel was sold out and they could not help us. There was also no effort made to correct the situation immediately. All that was offered was for housekeeping to come the following day and try to "refresh" the room. This did not occur the following morning. When we woke up, we could almost smell the smoke odor on our own breaths... disgusting! I shared text messages with the hotel staff. Once again, I let them know of the situation. They offered me a "breakfast voucher." Such terrible customer service, and no desire to fix the situation promptly. Because we had a two night stay, I went out to the store and purchased multiple car air fresheners. We went back to the hotel and hung them all over the room to try and mitigate the smell ourselves. It worked to some extent, but the underlying smell was still there. I just received my invoice from the hotel, and we were charged full price for both nights, as well as both breakfast charges were applied as well. To add to our experience, we visited the bar Trax twice during our stay. The bar service is extremely slow and not efficient. We waited 10 minutes to get a drink, 15 minutes after that to get a second drink at which time we just called it a night. The breakfast service was just as slow, and the product coming out of the kitchen was mediocre and did not appear fresh. The avocado toast was topped with guacamole seemingly from a jar. And on day two, they ran out of home fries and substituted with tater tots. Once again, it shows the management of this hotel is not up to par. I encourage others to choose the Hilton next-door instead. This Radisson location is a great place to take some photos in the lobby (which is beautiful), but it's clear the staff is unable to manage the hotel appropriately and lacks basic customer service skills read more

The good: Building is beautiful. The interior is beautiful. The desk clerk was very professional and friendly. The bar had good drinks and good food. We had the charcuterie. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean. Parking was easy. The bad: Our room was number 230. We stayed the nights of 01/12/2026 and 01/13/2026. We had to go through two large steel doors to get to our room. Once we went through the first steel door, that next corridor was freezing like it was outside. The two heavy steel doors we went through made very loud noises when they were closing automatically. I'm sure that did not help the guests staying in that area. I know very early in the morning while we were still sleeping, we heard others leaving through those doors and I joked that it sounded like a prison lock-up door. I would hope that if there were other rooms available, we would not have been put in that loud, cold area. Also, the bathroom is quite small. We stayed two nights and when returning to the room in the middle of the stay at about 8:30 PM, we found our room was not serviced that day. The bed was messed up. The coffee was not refilled, and the cups were dirty, I don't know if they replace towels each day, but our towels were still dirty. When I approached the desk clerk and told him about this, he had no apologies whatsoever. He did offer at 8:30 PM that night to have the beds made which I thought was totally ridiculous. Also, we kept getting awakened by the heater that would come on. It was incredibly loud. It sounded like there was either a relay or something that's almost sounded like a door slamming. Absolutely ridiculous. I would not recommend any of these rooms. Yes the outside is pretty and it's catchy when you walk in and see the interior but a good nights sleep is important to me and I did not get it here. read more

The restaurants are very good - way beyond most hotel restaurant fare. The rates were very low. The bad: The hotel part of the building is just okay - the rooms are very basic. Scranton is so far past its prime, there is just nothing in walking distance and I wouldn't feel safe going for a walk in that area anyway. I am going with 4 stars based almost entirely in the fact it is an amazing building and they kept it in use and prevent its demolition. I was gagging when I saw the room. You couldn't see through the dust on the mirrors in this room. There was so much hair and debris on the tile floors. They actually put a freshly shrink wrapped TV remote in the room as though they cleaned it!!!! Absolutely the most disgusting room. The fact that they didn't change the bedding which had hair all over the pillows and sheets and the nasty stain on the white comforter as well. They didn't even check the toilet!!! Disgusting! I didn't ask for a discount but later I thought I should get a discount because that was so gross! I was told I would receive a discount from the front desk manager Tanya and the corporate customer service as well. I didn't receive any type of discount. 8/20/25 My friend and I traveled from Austin, TX on our motorcycles. Along the way, through the Virginia and Pennsylvania mountains we found ourselves caught in some heavy rain. We arrived soaked head to toe walking into the Raddison. Nyemia C. was at the front desk training Gabriella M. while checking us in. Both were very kind and very helpful as we also needed accessible support for our room as well as some recommendations. They were top quality staff members which had given us the best service we had while we traveled cross country. As for the hotel, it was very cool staying in a renovated train station. Rooms were decorated accordingly to the theme. The food at Trax, one of the indoor food options, was phenomenal! I had a whisky BBQ porkchop that was almost 2" thick and cooked to perfection. My friend had a NY strip cooked perfect at Med-rare. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area and like historical renovations. read more

Disgusting, Dismissive, and Completely Out of Touch My girlfriend booked this hotel as a surprise for my 60th birthday -- a cozy night in with scary movies, Netflix, and quality girlfriend time. That was the plan. What actually happened was a disgusting, frustrating mess. First red flag: no remote control in the room. Then we discovered the in-room phone didn't even work, so I had to go into the hallway just to call the front desk. A staff member came up and tore through the room like she was conducting a search warrant -- flipping pillows, tossing things -- and eventually found the remote under the bed... along with a credit card, a pair of eyeglasses, and a bottle of water-based lubricant. Yes. Lube. Under the bed. In a room that was allegedly "cleaned." We complained several times and were completely ignored. No apology. No refund. Nothing. My girlfriend even wrote a review and was contacted by hotel staff -- and the only thing they responded to was the missing remote control. They completely glossed over the lube, the filth, and the fact that we were clearly not the first guests in that bed. As if that weren't enough, we discovered the TV wasn't even a smart TV. We were expected to bring our own Roku or Fire Stick if we wanted to stream anything. I've stayed in budget motels that offer more in-room entertainment than this place. And when we tried to grab a soda from the vending machines? Both were out of order. We went down to the bar to get two Cokes -- and they charged us six dollars each. For a fountain soda. At this point, it felt like they were just trying to add insult to injury. Bottom line: the room wasn't clean, the service was appalling, and management couldn't care less. Save yourself the money, the headache, and the bleach bath you'll need afterward -- stay somewhere else. read more

I don't write reviews often. However, we had our wedding guest block at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel over Memorial Day weekend and the experience was extremely disappointing. We were told that 20 rooms would be held for us and that additional rooms could be added in increments of 10 if needed. Once those 20 rooms were booked, the hotel refused to accommodate any more of our guests, even though over 30 rooms were ultimately booked by our friends and family. Several guests told us they did not receive the group discount and were able to find cheaper rates on third-party websites like Expedia. To make matters worse, we as the newlyweds ended up paying more for our room than anyone else, despite the fact that we brought significant business to the hotel. There was no effort to make the experience special or even courteous. We were also told the night before our wedding that the hotel bar, Trax, would be open for our guests to enjoy an after party. When we returned with well over 50 guests ready to celebrate, we were told they were closing at 11:00 PM. This was Memorial Day weekend and they turned away a large group of paying customers without any apology or attempt to accommodate us. The hotel showed no consideration for the amount of business and money our group brought in over the weekend. If you are planning a wedding and considering this hotel for a guest block, look elsewhere. They were not accommodating and showed no regard for the event or the guests who came to celebrate with us. We strongly recommend considering the Hilton instead. read more

We decided to spend a few days in the area, including a visit to Steamtown ...so of course this hotel was a logical choice as a refurbished grand old railroad station. The lobby maintains the look of the station - with marble, tiling, etc. As for the room (King with jetted tub) - it was quite spacious & clean (no microwave tho'). Bed was comfortable & bathroom was nice. We visited the bar/restaurant (Trax) for dinner one evening (decent) & and Carmen's 2.0 for breakfast (really good) on 4 mornings. We requested fresh towels each day (you must request each day you want service). Our interactions with staff were all good - we found everyone to be helpful. The great thing about this hotel is that it has the feel of a luxury hotel with normal chain hotel prices - I would definitely stay here again! read more

This is a former train station and the hotel has done a good job preserving the feel and keeping the decor era appropriate. The downside is it can feel old at times. For example, the bathroom is undersized by today's standards. The service was ok and the place is generally clean. Also, parking is a plus given it is a private lot right outside the hotel rather than in parking garages like other hotels. The challenges were the front desk was understaffed. When we left there were a few guests waiting to checkout but nobody was present. We ended up dropping our keys on the counter and walking out. You would be out of luck if you had a question or if you wanted a receipt. Also, some of the minor details were missed. For example, our bathroom had a tissue box that was empty. There was no backup. Additionally, the fitness center had some nice equipment such as a Life Fitness elliptical machine. Unfortunately, the machine was not balanced so the motion would rock the machine back-and-forth. I would have fixed it myself but commercial machines like this are absurdly heavy and not a job for one person. read more

Other than the beautiful building, not much good about this place. The person at the desk bordered on rude for no apparent reason. The heating system in the room was old, and it sounded like a steam locomotive was leaving the station about every 10 minutes. My wife and I both struggled to sleep. The parking lot was about a quarter full, yet the best room they had for us was one overlooking the building's HVAC system. Booked a room here for the University of Scranton family weekend 6 months ago. Fully confirmed and paid in advance (which was not cheap as they know it's a college event). Get to the hotel today and there is a VERY long line to check in. People seem to be upset and walking off in a huff. What could be wrong? Well, my turn, and the woman at the front desk (Tonya I believe) pulls out a sheet of paper with a list of names. Mine was on it. The list is for people who do NOT have rooms. She quickly tells me that they are overbooked, and they tried to reach out to me via Booking.com to let me know. First of all I never booked through Booking.com. I then hear them tell someone who was also checking in that there was a computer error and they didn't have a room for her either. No offer to get me a room. No offer to refund my money (already started the refund process with my credit card). No offer to find me a new hotel. Basically thanks for taking the trip to Scranton, have fun sleeping in your car. I will never book here again, and I will try to inform as many would be University parents to avoid the Scranton Radisson as well. read more

I needed to come to Scranton for a funeral early the next morning and didn't fancy a dump. Having grown up in Scranton and leaving several decades ago, I wanted a centrally located hotel, and recall this place having a good reputation. It is majestic from the outside and must have been amazing in its day. My room had been remodeled some time in the past, was clean, and sufficed my needs. The elevators and pretty much everything was old, however that is part of the charm. The room was less expensive than I'd imagined. We didn't eat here so I can't comment. There is a parking lot out front, but we had no trouble parking. I'm still looking for a hair dryer which they evidently don't furnish. The young lady at the front desk wasn't too friendly, but I think the guest before me in line had her frazzled. All in all,it's been a good stay thus far. If checkout is an experience from Hades, I'll include it as an addendum. If nothing after this line you can assume that it was clear sailing. Checkout was fine. I enjoy historic locations and trains. I chose this hotel because it looked interesting and my wife wanted to visit family. There is so much to read about this hotel and overall it was a cool to learn this part of rail / Scranton history. During check in I requested a room on the side of the building with the best view, was issued a room on the city side. The windows in the room are so high that I had to stand on a chair to look out. Maybe that explains why some other reviews complain about dirty chairs... I guess when they spent the millions to convert this place into a hotel that they didn't expect their guests to want to look out the windows. After all, I learned that there is a train line on the opposite side of the hotel and the train horns may have been disturbing. The room was clean and had some photos of train theme but we were quickly alerted to the strong smell of cheap air freshener. Almost overwhelming. The room did not have a microwave which was disappointing and surprising... the first room Ive stayed in for 10 years that didn't have a microwave. We were there for 5 nights so it altered our meal plans. After day 3 we requested a extra blanket,, that never arrived and the room didn't get serviced while we were out. It was a wtf moment. Walking up and down the walkways in the evenings there were still numerous food trays from the morning breakfast deliveries. Just odd to see them sitting out waiting to be picked up late in the day, and that was every day. The location of the hotel is great. A short walk will get you to the mall and other downtown attractions. Extra parking in the back of the hotel which is covered. Nice for the rain and snow days. The front lot might fill up quickly. The main areas for the hotel are nice and clean. The room is average to below average, needs updating. We didnt have any paranormal experiences, but you can google or youtube about them. Probably wont return to this hotel. When I learned that the Hilton was across the street I had wished we stayed there and walked to this hotel to look around. read more

I stumbled upon this hotel while looking for a rest stop from Massachusetts to Florida. A happy accident! It's a beautiful hotel with a ton of history. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was an additional delightful surprise. I stayed there about two months ago, and I'll be heading there again this week! It is SO affordable. I would much rather spend $120 here than $170 on a standard chain. I do recommend to request a room on the top floor, king or bigger. They are much nicer and the same price as a standard holiday inn. First visit here. I would return. I see some medium to negative reviews. My stay was great. I was upgraded without asking to a suite. The room was so large I could play softball in it. They may have done that because I was a first time customer and they wanted me back. Nevertheless it was nice. The room was appointed nice and things were modern. I found the bed really comfortable. The water pressure in the bathrooms, yes there were two in my suite, was excellent. They had more than the usual number of toiletries. The staff at the desk was very friendly and there is a large container of cool water with different pieces of fruit in it for a refreshing drink. There is a large 50! inch television in the living area but the one in the bedroom was really small. That was my only negative. I did not eat in the hotel and normally I would not but there are two restaurants inside. JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE RAILWAY BAR AND GRILL ACROSS THE STREET. read more

Excellent stay. Beautiful property. I will start by saying I was in the area looking at some homes because my girlfriend and I are moving to Scranton. Because of this I don't want to in anyway denigrate the area, nevertheless the hotel was unexpectedly stately and "fancy," for the area. This is because they had a beautiful Old train station that they (Radisson or whoever it was at the time) acquired to start with. The building seemed to have been modified as little as possible- it featured marble floors, original fixtures and as much of its design as possible. From the outside it does not appear that anything was actually added to the hotel to make it go from what I would call medium sized train station sized' to 'medium size hotel.have a feeling this is not true in fact it was such a cool building that I tend to look into it. If they did add anything to it it's completely seamless from the outside. etc. were left as possible. It's amazing how much better things were built back then, I mean it really is kind of sad. Build that building now would probably cost five times or more what a standard hotel building would cost to build in that area now. Jackey at the front desk is terrific and front desk manager Adam (not sure of their last names) is also a very good dude. Him and I had a slight misunderstanding upon check-in (absolutely nothing "unprofessional," just a miscommunication). We mutually shook hands and laughed about it, again it was nothing significant. Later that night my Girlfriend and I got room service, the portions were unexpectedly big. I hadn't gotten room service in quite some time in a hotel that I have a feeling that the portions would not have been that big years ago. You are no longer captive in your dining choices, all of the "App based" delivery services offer stiff competition. to wrap this up: For all of your Scranton hotel needs, go to the Lackawanna Raddison... The building is so cool and the lobby is amazing. We were welcomed in nicely. The room was a different story for us. Noticed some stains on top of the duvet and as I took it off, found blood stains. Dried food around the floor of the bed, used tissues under the sink of the bathroom. Paint chipping off the doors. What's up with the tvs? I don't really care how big it is because we go out exploring. But it was a 20" tv with screen issues. Everything was green on the tv. Also, I stopped at the front desk a 2nd time to ask for something. The lady was off, likely drunk and made things super awkward. When I came back she was gone and I was told she was taken care off. Let me start by saying that the staff at this hotel are very hospitable. My girlfriend and I went to Scranton for our one year anniversary. She loves The Office so a quick and fun weekend away was planned through Expedia. Well (long story short), we had an issue with Expedia over a date change and they were not going to give our money back (to rebook another weekend). The staff at this hotel (literally anyone I got on the phone) was extremely helpful and reassuring. They worked with Expedia to get us our money back and then rebooked us at a better price. I was literally "white knuckled" with frustration talking to Expedia for several days straight. That stress would disappear when I called the hotel and they put me at ease. Thank you Staff! Once we got to the hotel, it was really a great stay. The place is old but incredibly charming and historic. Does it need some repairs? Sure. Could it use an upgrade in places? Sure. But the beds/rooms were clean and the staff is amazing. Overall, it was a great place. read more

Best hotel in Scranton to check out if you were going to visit for business or to check the city out. We had a higher floor room overlooking the city, beautiful and very vintage Decour inside. Marble walls. In the breakfast/dining area you can still tell there are remnants of the old train station including a centerpiece clock which gives it a very outdated and stylish aesthetic. The rooms were very clean, very spacious and very comfortable. The cooling and heating system worked efficiently. The restaurant bar downstairs is cozy. Would def stay again. This hotel was an old railroad train station and the history and architecture still reflect that. We stayed here for Christmas Eve and it was the perfect holiday stay. Buyer Beware! Booked this room because we needed a.m. airport transportation after the holiday weekend at check-in found out they only have transportation when they have a driver which they didn't so paid extra for advertised service that they didn't have. If I would've known that would've booked a much cheaper hotel that also had a comfortable bed and a hot shower, which otherwise was all we needed. Husband asked for a fan and was told they had them, but since the front desk clerk was the loan staff member in the hotel, she could not leave her post to retrieve one. Rooms were clean, but there was a nauseating disinfectant perfume smell in the room that I could even smell when I woke up during the night. Trax bar is a nice place for a cocktail or food. My husband and I were so excited to stay at this former train station location. The photos online made it look so charming. We were only staying two nights and the price was steep but the charm sold us. When we arrived there was no one out front to direct you and it's quite hard to bring in baggage up their steps. We checked in and got into our room on the second floor. The one of the elevators was broken, but okay it's an old building, things have to be repaired. We get that. We get upstairs into a very warm and stagnant smelling room with one king bed. I immediately step on a screw on the floor then notice there's popcorn all over the floor. Then I found glow in the dark necklaces on the floor. When I went into the bathroom, there was toothpaste on the mirror from a previous guest. We were tired and hungry so on our way to dinner my husband informs the front desk and they said they would have it cleaned while we were gone. Great. We come back four hours later and nothing was cleaned. I went to the front desk and the young man working, Michael, immediately moved our room to a suite down the hall on the same floor and apologized profusely (where one of the housekeepers saw us switching rooms and turned around and hid in a stair case so we wouldn't see her!) In our new room, it smelled. It just smelled bad, a very strong chemically smell. At this point we are tired and go to bed. Only to be woken around 11pm by several over served young ladies screaming and singing all night through the paper thin walls. I called the front desk and they eventually sent someone to ask them to be quiet only to have them start again around 2 am. After traveling for a week, we just wanted a clean quiet beautiful, charming hotel to treat ourselves. This Radisson is not worth it. We checked our early and moved to another hotel. The front desk asked why and I gave them the litany of issues and the girl blankly stared at us and said "okay." On the way out the general manager from the restaurant caught us and offered us breakfast and said he would take our concerns to the daylight manager. He was one of the very few people who seemed concerned about our disappointment. At the very least, it's a beautiful building with loads of charm. But it's an older building with a lot of apathetic employees. You can see dirty spots on the ceilings and walls in the hallways and fraying carpet in the rooms. Few people genuinely cared about our concerns. We were told a manager would reach out to my husband and we have heard nothing. The price of this hotel and what you get when you arrive are seriously distorted. I would strongly recommend you look elsewhere instead of this hotel. The two stars are for the beautiful exterior of the building and the general manager from Carmen's who actually tried to help us and hear us out. read more

IMO, this is the nicest hotel in Scranton. The architecture is very impressive and beautiful, perfect for a wedding or special occasion. I've been here quite a few times to eat at Carmen's (their restaurant) or get a drink at Trax (the bar). Trax is one of my favorite "classier" bars in Scranton. Carmen's is one of the best high end restaurants in Scranton. I'm a huge fan of their Sunday brunch buffet, which is pricey but worth it because the food is delicious. I recently stayed here on a Saturday night for a wedding (about 125 guests). The wedding ceremony took place in the lobby which was gorgeous, especially under all of the stained glass and surrounded by marble walls. The wedding reception was in the ballroom off to the side, and it was also a lovely traditional space. The hotel room my husband and I stayed in was very well-decorated, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had amenities like a safe in the room, the windows actually being able to open to the outside, and pretty good room service (I ordered the hummus plate and it was yummy!). The bed was very comfortable. Check in was easy. Parking was about $5 per night. My only complaint is that the room wasn't exactly spotless when we checked in...We found a food wrapper near the bathroom trashcan, and some other cleaning misses, plus our room was missing the hair dryer (we called down and they brought us a new one). read more

This hotel's architecture is very impressive, possibly due to the fact that it was formerly a railroad station back in the day. There are excellent old train details here. I did not stay overnight, so I cannot rate the rooms and service. I also did not eat at their signature restaurant (Carmen's). Because... We we're invited to a wedding here and I must add it was a top-rated affair. And I would assume Carmens had a hand in preparing and presenting the food. I will comment on the hotel through the" eyes" of the affair. As you can see in the picture the main lobby is plush and was great for the cocktail party. The side room was quite large for the actual wedding ceremony. It can hold 150 guests. There is a huge dining room with the stage that can accommodate a 12 piece band with a very large dance floor. Prior to the ceremony, I peaked in the room and it appeared spacious and clean. For this event parking was free, other reviews state differently. We had a Bridal Shower in the platform lounge at the hotel and everything was handled perfectly by Felicity. She is an amazing coordinator! She is so accommodating and helpful. She is great at her job. She also helped us set up a room block. Everything she does is seamless. She takes the stress out of all of it. The servers at our event were so kind and gracious and tended to our every need. The lobby and surrounding areas of the hotel are gorgeous. We were thoroughly impressed with our experience. read more
