We made a reservation in December for April 7-9 to enjoy the Solar Eclipse. Flew into Dallas from Portland, drove to Temple, and was told they had overbooked so they had NO ROOM for us. My wife was livid. Avoid this place. Avoid all Choice Hotel Group properties. This is the parent company. We were lucky to find a nearby room for TWICE the price. The front desk told us it was probably good luck because the Temple Econo Lodge is notorious for bed bugs. I plan to file a complaint with the State Attorney General regarding our treatment by Choice Hotel Group. read more

Everything here is a little janky but we did have a full sized fridge randomly in our room. There was no "do not disturb" door hanger to be had, and two people bothered us, knocking on the door and yelling about cleaning the room and trying to open it while we were still in bed in the morning before 10:30 in the morning. We told both people we did not want room cleaning. I would have rated this a one star, but did appreciate the absence of any sign of bugs. read more

Our experience at the Econo Lodge in Temple, Texas was a good/bad situation .. with the scale tipped toward "bad". Early in the afternoon, I called five motels in the Temple/Belton Texas area. Of the first four, none of them answered. In two cases, there wasn't an opportunity to leave voice mail. Econo Lodge was the first where a person actually answered the phone. I spoke with man name "Sam", who took my name and assured me a room would be available. We arrived as scheduled, and indeed we were given a room. The room itself was clean except for one problem. There was black mold in the ceiling area directly above the shower head. Aside from this what for some could be a serious issue, the room was otherwise acceptable. Being tired from driving all day, I wasn't about to haggle. We made it a point not to be in the bathroom any more than absolutely necessary. A few good points: The room was equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. The 'fridge was clean, and we used it to store a few snacks we'd purchased earlier that evening before our arrival at the motel. We didn't use the microwave. The room itself was basically clean, on par with a typical "clean" motel room. The beds and linens were also clean, and in good condition. As for the bad: The Econo Lodge website shows "free breakfast". On our arrival, I saw a sign on the office door reading, "No breakfast due to the pandemic". I asked Sam, and he confirmed "no breakfast". I asked why they still had this offered on their website. He didn't reply. I asked if the room rate was still the same without breakfast. It was. I then requested a wake-up call. Sam told me their phone system wasn't working correctly, and no wake-up call was possible. We headed for our room. The next issue we encountered, the clock-radio in our room was unplugged. Guests often unplug a radio when they can't operate the alarm. Thinking the radio could be our "wake-up" call, I plugged it in .. only to discover the clock wasn't working. So much for an alarm. We set the alarm in my wife's cell phone, turned off the lights and went to sleep. This wasn't ideal because she's in the medical profession, and her phone would be subject to calls in the middle of the night. She was "off the clock" for this trip, and didn't want to be disturbed. Fortunately, this night was quiet for us from a cell-phone perspective. It wasn't the case for other aspects of our stay. We were startled awake at 4:00 a.m. when someone tried repeatedly to open the door to our room, bumping the door solidly in the process. Several voices talking loudly outside our door meant multiple people. When the attempted entry and voices persisted, I got out of bed and peeked past the curtains to see four or five adults standing next to our door, all speaking loudly enough to wake other guests .. not just us. I spoke with the people and let them know the room was occupied. Turned out the motel made an error, and assigned this group of people to the same room we were in. A man in the group even held up the room key card with the room number written on it to prove it was the same room. After realizing the Econo Lodge made an error, these other guests headed back to the office to presumably get another room. In the meantime, our adrenaline levels slowly dropped, but didn't return to "normal". Needless to say, neither my wife nor I were able to get back to sleep. We'd had only a few hours rest at that point, but it was enough to "take the edge off", so to speak. I attended my meeting (the purpose we were in the area), then returned to the motel. On checking out, I told Sam of the 4 a.m. incident. He was aware of it, and claimed they'd had a "computer problem". I then asked Sam if guests were compensated when an error of this nature is made, particularly since we were awakened at such an early hour by what seemed to be people trying to break into our room. Sam seemed surprised I would even ask. He offered to let us stay an extra four hours "for free". Unacceptable. I told him we were headed out at that time. He then offered to give us "some credit" toward our next visit? Really?!? This was our first trip to Belton in several years, and I informed Sam of this. He then realized we would not be in the area to use any "credit". Sam reluctantly offered a small credit of $15 toward the cost of our room, which I accepted. This credit has been posted to my credit card. Given our negative experience at this Econo Lodge, we will not be returning. read more

This Econo Lodge is a Fantastic Stop for any budget traveler. Exceptionally Clean & Well Maintained. The staff go above & beyond to make the stay pleasurable. There's a complimentary continental breakfast, the rooms are updated & the swimming pool is clean and ready for a swim. I have stayed here many times throughout the years & each time there are improvements. An absolute value to stay & where I will always stay while in Temple, Texas. read more

Love it here. Stayed the weekend and never had a problem. House keeping did amazing as well. Bathroom is a decent size and so are the beds. Beds are very comfortable. People at the front office are nice. read more

This hotel is awful! I requested a non smoking room and ended up in one that smelled like an ashtray. The walls were dirty, no covering on outlets, no smoke detector, bugs crawling everywhere, the bedspread had burnt holes in them and the towels were stained. The only good thing is they let us bring out cats during evacuation from hurricane Laura. Staff took forever to check us in and out. The whole experience was awful! Go somewhere else. read more

A group of us rented over a dozen rooms. They got the names all mixed up. Some of our group had to stay elsewhere because of it. This was our third year renting here. We will not be staying next year. The sink in our room kept clogging up. The shower pressure sucked. One morning no hot water. They gave one of our members I.D. To someone else instead of returning to her. They promised the pool would be open and ready but it wasn't. The breakfast had very little variety. Our group will not stay here again. read more

Econo lodge in temple was a place to sleep for our family of four and our lil beagle dog. Not only are they pet friendly (only $10/night when we went), but they also offered a military discount, which was greatly appreciated. Its right off of the highway in Temple, if you are going towards Dallas, it's past most of the high traffic areas in Temple, if you are going towards Austin, it's right before you get there. I definitely didn't see a clean and modern place, it was dated, but it was in fact clean for the most part. The room was HOT when we got in, we had to turn on the a/c, so it was really uncomfortable at first, but it cooled off fairly quickly. Our toilet ended up getting clogged in the middle of the night, so that was kind of gross to wake up to, not sure what happened, but overall its a decent place to lay your head if you are just too tired to keep going. I would stay there again, especially if my pet and money are both issues. We did not partake in breakfast the next morning, so I can't really say how it was. read more

Not only was it clean with modern up to date furniture, the hospitality was great. They made sure I was a satisfied by letting me see room first and also when internet went down because of cable company issue they provided alternative wifi. I will definitely recommend this place. read more

My only problem was the internet connection...HORRIBLE. I had to use my phone to get a decent signal which is strange for a Choice Hotel property. The place has a few years on it and that's fine. However, if you need to use your computer, you might want to spend a few extra bucks elsewhere -- either that or have a good phone plan... read more

This is a terrific inexpensive motel. We come to Temple frequently. They staff goes above the normal to make you stay comfortable. During g hot weather they will,have our room cool for us. I was having trouble getting my Ipad to connect to wifi. Got instructions. Shortly the guy at the desk came to the room to see if we got our devices to work. Very helpful. This is a very clean hotel. No frills but has everything we need. Good selection on TV channels. Once you learn your way around the construction on I-35 here are many nice places to eat close by from dining to fast food. Also a good location if you are here for the VA or Scott and White. Give the. A try. I notice a number of businesses employees stay here regularly. Sits back from the interstate so that you do no have road noise. Breakfast is included with room. read more
