Louisiana Style Crab Cakes! So delicious I forgot to take the photo prior to diggin in!!

OMG!!! I can't love this place enough!! I was spending the day in Salado and stopped in for lunch and I was so glad that I did! They weren't very busy when my friend and I arrived, so we were quickly seated. They let us pick where we wanted to sit so naturally we sat outside with a great river view. Our server was extremely friendly and made some great recommendations. I had the crabcakes and they were fantastic! There was plenty of crab in there and very little breading. The flavor was great and they were fried to perfection. My friend had the Kung Pao Cauliflower. WOW! What an unexpected treat! Full of flavor and a HUGE serving. I will definitely be going back next time I visit Salado. Wonderful experience!

The negative first- We booked here for our wedding Anniversary. I've seen this Inn several times and wanted to give it a try. So last minute we booked a room through a third party site. One thing we did not realize is we would not be staying at the main house that is actually on the creek. This was a disappointment but now we know better next time. Our room was Whistler.. this room is right on the Royal Street and was very cute and adorable. The wall AC did a great job keeping us cool. However the bed was so uncomfortable we got very little sleep during our stay. Not because the mattress itself was uncomfortable, but because the middle support under the bed was missing and the bed is bowing into the middle- (super easy fix hopefully). We kept rolling into the center of the bed waking up several times and very sore the next morning. Also the street traffic was very loud at times in our room. While our room wasn't comfortable, the beauty of the main Inn and the attention of the staff was amazing. They gave us a small champagne bottle for our Anniversary and delivered us packed box breakfasts since we were leaving early on the last day. We will definitely be booking again to experience the main manor.

The best! We cannot wait to book another stay here. The room was super clean and cozy, the staff was welcoming and accommodating and the whole premises is gorgeous!

Decided to come to Salado for a mom-daughter getaway with my 17 year old. I wasn't sure what to expect because Covid has made so many changes in how things are run. The room was beautiful and quiet, overlooking the creek. We spent relaxing evenings sitting by the creek watching the deer come to feed. The breakfast picnic basket was beautifully done and they even added French press coffee. It was a fabulously relaxing 2 days - I loom forward to coming back when things are "normal". Highly recommend.

The Inn is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. It is so convenient to walk across the breezeway for a dinner and drink at Alexander's Distillery. Then, to swing on the porch by Salado Creek. It is so peaceful here! You are really transported back in time.

Chef Jacob Hilbert is now at Inn on the Creek, offering his spectacular dinners on Friday and Saturday. It's called The Hunter Gatherer Experience. We went to the inaugural dinner. It was outstanding. From the food, to the service, to the beautiful Manor house, it was exceptional!

This is the best breakfast in central Texas. Hands down. We've been coming here for 5 years. I proposed to my wife here with the help of Will, the nicest hotelier you'll ever meet. We've been coming as a couple twice a year until we had our first kid. It is a romantic hideaway far from the stress and bustle of Austin. We kept coming for the Christmas stroll but were afraid that it wouldn't be very kid friendly. What B&B is? Much to our surprise, they opened their arms (literally) to our 18mo. He was allowed to run around the grounds and house as he explored all of their unique antiques. Tony danced with him and paraded him around to the other guests like a proud uncle. Will taught him the simple pleasures of feeding the ducks that call the inn home. Honestly, they welcomed Alex and kept him happy better than our own family. And that's saying a lot. tl;dr This place is great for couples looking for a quiet, romantic hideaway. And it's just as good for families and children looking for open spaces to run, secret forests to explore, and wildlife to play with.

    Exceptional brunch!

Unbelievable and beautiful stay! Went with an old friend from junior high and we had wonderful time. We stayed in bungalow 3 and it was perfect. Outstanding views of the creek from the back patio and we were greeted by several deer. This bungalow is next to the 3 tiered deck and rock walls near the creek perfect for meditation and relaxation. My friend did some yoga poses/headstands on the wall in the creek. Very cool! Sheets were luxurious, towels fluffy, robes available for use, air conditioner worked great, wonderful coffee, exceptional fudge on the table for us. I was very impressed! We arrived on Saturday and checked in just in time for guest appreciation which included a lovely glass of wine accompanied by a homemade pimento cheese ball and crackers....yum!! Checkout on Sunday but before we left, we had the included brunch which was nothing less than spectacular! I expected croissants and fruit but nothing as great as this! It was a full 3 course meal....salmon, candied bacon, cheeses, pastries and biscuits, pickled celery and carrots, jams and mustard s, that was just the first course! I had the eggs benedict and my friend had the crab omlet both were exceptional and then came dessert. Banana bread, chocolate mousse AND creme brulee inside of a perfect egg shell. My husband and I are planning a trip back as soon as we can get there! I can't wait to show him this hidden jewel.

Sunset in the backyard on the creek!

We weren't charged more at the farm, but still not sure what the official policy is. My husband, I, our toddler, and newborn went on a Saturday morning and had the place to ourselves. You book in advance on the website, and the self-guided tour is booked for 45 minutes. We saw a cow, alpaca, their famed mini-highland cow, chickens, dogs, ducks, a pig, baby (or small) goats, geese, an emu, and rabbits. The geese were a bit aggressive, but Renee put them away for us, which was much appreciated. The alpaca and ducks didn't want much to do with us, but the emu, goats, dogs, and pig were all very friendly. The cow was also very chill and didn't mind us petting him, but wasn't enthusiastic about our presence. I was a little freaked out by the emu, Lulu, but Renee assured us that she was curious but harmless and by the end we were all great friends. Some things to know: do not wear your best shoes. There are, understandably, animal droppings everywhere. There is a walking path from where you park to where you pet the animals, but the animal area is not stroller-friendly. Also, the goats may try to eat your stroller, which can't be good for them. I just baby-wore, and that worked great for us; we'll plan to do that from the start next time. The instructions say to park and then walk up to the big red barn. There were two red barns and nobody at either of them, so we weren't entirely sure if we needed to check-in or something. We also weren't sure if we could just start petting the animals we saw or if there was a specific place we were supposed to be. Renee came out after we'd been there about 10 minutes and chatted for a bit, but having someone greet us and tell us where to start, or at least some clear signage, would have given this the 5th star.

They said the animals that were there for the guests to pet and love on were all cuddly and very comfortable being around people. The hostess on the farm was very eager to please, she was warm and welcoming. The Experience included a charcuterie tray and bottle of wine for the evening. One thing my son talked about was how clear the stars were they could sit outside and look up at the stars and really see them because there was little to know light pollution.

The explanation from the owner was, "when it rains the rats come inside." That aside, the mattresses and bedding are horribly old and uncomfortable. How one of the reviews for this place(which is from four years ago) could possibly say that the bedding is lush and comfortable is INSANE. The a/c was also not on when we arrived so it took well over an hour for the cottage to become comfortable. I was also very afraid to use the jacuzzi tub as it was dirty with yes, more rat poop but the nozzles also looked dirty and who knows how old that tub really is so a bath was forgone. They don't send a confirmation email of your booking even though I was told twice I would receive one and beware of substantial additional charges that are not disclosed up front. Our stay ended up costing over $100 more than expected because of those extra fees. The cost of staying here is an absolute joke for the accommodations which are dirty and highly uncomfortable. Another guest who stayed when we did reported a similar experience. I don't know how they are staying in business because anyone that has the experience we did will certainly never come back and I hope that the people who read this find any other housing option, this place is not worth your money. I'm sure it was a beautiful location when it was built but the lack of attention to landscape and upkeep are obvious.
