This is the advice I give you. $350 is what you will likely spend if you have no idea how to work the system because they will work you over. If you're like my fiancé and I you want to work the system in your favor along with your wallet. If you think sleeping at this retreat for $350 means you will be sleeping on comfortable beds and dine on good food, throw that idea right out the door. The beds are hard, it's like you're sleeping on a box spring. The food they claim is good but a frat boy can make better food. So to avoid this and have a happy retreat, First, call the Austin Arch Diocese and tell them "I want to commute to the retreat." they'll try to sell you on the idea of sleeping in separate rooms on hard beds as a good way to get to know each other. You will be sharing a room with a total stranger, and you will have no idea what type of person he or she might be or what their sleeping habits are, be prepared for a night of hell. Now the linen is disgusting, the top sheet and the blankets are clean and but the fitted sheet have been left on from who knows how many retreats prior they are dirty and nasty, my fiancé found old toe nails in his bed which is gross, plus shows that they do not change the sheets. So repeat to them. "No I rather commute for $200." Then you now have skipped out on the horrible sleeping condition and saved yourself $150 to spend on gas and or food or a retreat with your fiancé so you can forget this retreat. As a chef I pride myself on knowing food cost along with knowing what's good. The food was cheap and preprocessed. I'm not looking for a Chef Ramsey or a Bobby Flae, I'm just looking for good food. Instead this food was egg substitute of some nature, fruit chopped, bread pre toasted and no butter, and jams and one jelly oh and horrible tasting sausage links that don't look or taste fully cooked. So bring either something from home or eat at home and come back right before the classes start. For lunch they are many places in Belton which is near the retreat location. There are several very good Mexican restaurants that serve great food but charge you an additional 50 cents for extra basket of chips. A Chinese restaurant that taste amazing, or you could go with the standby of finding Whataburger or Sonic or Taco bell. These are much better options in the long run compared to what you will likely be eating at this retreat. Or you could bring a subway sandwich for lunch so you can avoid they're lunch time meal of sandwich and salads. When they say bring snacks bring two items a drink and or some type of ate able item. Don't bring a lot because people won't eat a lot of it and they will try to take extra drinks back home. One disappointed married couple that has decided to educate the masses and save you some money.
