The kitchen. The house was built in the 1800's and has much of its original furniture and fixtures [w/needed updates of course].

This was my second visit to Salado. I first went for a quiet birthday weekend several years ago and stayed at a B&B, but couldn't remember the name when I planned this trip. So I looked for other affordable locations. I decided on Rose Mansion for our trip (July 4th weekend). I was pleased with the grounds and the cleanliness of the rooms. Since it was only one other cabin being occupied that afternoon, she showed us all the rooms in the house before showing us our cabin. We found the cabins to be clean yet rustic. Pretty much what I expected. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom (more than I expected we'd go through!) as well as other necessities. I didn't expect her to refresh the towels and soap, but she did. That was a nice touch. She told us breakfast (included in the price) was served in the Sun Room beginning at 9:00 until the last person ate. The next day I was late to breakfast. Two other couples were there eating with my boyfriend. There was PLENTY of food left for me as well as the mother and daughter who came to eat way after the other couples had left. The food was delicious! I had to force myself not to overeat! Sunday's breakfast was served in the dining room. The tables were set nicely and hand made yogurt and fruit parfaits were waiting when we sat down. Fresh muffins were served each day with a variety of jams and juices. Coffee and tea was available as well. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the manager, Kay, was a delight. Very thoughtful and accommodating. We will definitely return. I've read some poor reviews about this place and Kay even told us about some of them. It seems the problem was with the previous manager's handling of things, what the guests were expecting, and timing. There's always the opportunity to go somewhere and have a bad experience because of one's own expectations or it been an unfortunate matter of timing (even in the finest of hotels- I've experienced that!). All I can say is our time was very nice and just what we were looking for. B&B's are different. Some are promoted as more luxurious and mimic fine hotels with similar services, others are more simple and cozy to mimic a home-stay. This rustic country-style venue is not for those looking for a five star hotel experience, but for those wanting a peaceful, quiet, rustic getaway, this is the place. The food is great, the manager is lovely and the town is quaint. I recommend a stay at Rose Mansion when you're in Salado, TX.

Could not have been more lovely. Kay, innkeeper took care of us like a loving family. Her breakfast rivaled 5 star restaurant.

The young lady working the front --Janai--was so helpful and kind. An amazing asset to their organization. We discovered Alexander's has the best bread pudding that my friend and I had ever had. My only complaint is breakfast was not at the house. I was looking forward to the continued ambiance of the house.

The clawed tub is very charming that will whisk you away back in time. You'll definitely get a great night's sleep on the bed because it is very comfortable. The sheets are made of unmatched quality are fit for a king and queen. We liked the sheets so much we actually bought a set for our king sized bed at home. We've had the pleasure of meeting Jason, Katie, and Neil the owner and they've made us feel like family while here. When you stay here you definitely have to check out the Shed restaurant and Alexander's. The food at the Shed is exceptional we did the sampler plate, burgers, and cheese curds. They were great. You'll also want to eat at Alexander's on the property at the Inn as the food is phenomenal. We did the beef tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection along with the crab cakes and autumn bread pudding! If you're not staying at the Inn on the Creek you're missing out. Breakfast in the morning was stellar as well the atmosphere and people have been great. We definitely tip our hats off to all of the staff we've seen, and those working behind the scenes. You're taste buds will thank you once you eat at The Shed and Alexander's as their food is to die for! If you've haven't booked a stay here you will be disappointed if you go anywhere else. The Inn on the Creek truly is a hidden gem that you're going to love!!! From all of us at Texas Blue Courage Company LLC thank you for such amazing hospitality! Respectfully, Justin and Sheila Kmiec

We weren't charged more at the farm, but still not sure what the official policy is. My husband, I, our toddler, and newborn went on a Saturday morning and had the place to ourselves. You book in advance on the website, and the self-guided tour is booked for 45 minutes. We saw a cow, alpaca, their famed mini-highland cow, chickens, dogs, ducks, a pig, baby (or small) goats, geese, an emu, and rabbits. The geese were a bit aggressive, but Renee put them away for us, which was much appreciated. The alpaca and ducks didn't want much to do with us, but the emu, goats, dogs, and pig were all very friendly. The cow was also very chill and didn't mind us petting him, but wasn't enthusiastic about our presence. I was a little freaked out by the emu, Lulu, but Renee assured us that she was curious but harmless and by the end we were all great friends. Some things to know: do not wear your best shoes. There are, understandably, animal droppings everywhere. There is a walking path from where you park to where you pet the animals, but the animal area is not stroller-friendly. Also, the goats may try to eat your stroller, which can't be good for them. I just baby-wore, and that worked great for us; we'll plan to do that from the start next time. The instructions say to park and then walk up to the big red barn. There were two red barns and nobody at either of them, so we weren't entirely sure if we needed to check-in or something. We also weren't sure if we could just start petting the animals we saw or if there was a specific place we were supposed to be. Renee came out after we'd been there about 10 minutes and chatted for a bit, but having someone greet us and tell us where to start, or at least some clear signage, would have given this the 5th star.

We love Renee, the farm, all of the animals and the guest houses. We stayed overnight with an 8…read moremonth old- there's plenty of room and it's perfect for exactly what it is. If you haven't stopped by to pet the cows, you should! If you're local and into staycations, make this your next stop! It's affordable and a great experience.

The explanation from the owner was, "when it rains the rats come inside." That aside, the mattresses and bedding are horribly old and uncomfortable. How one of the reviews for this place(which is from four years ago) could possibly say that the bedding is lush and comfortable is INSANE. The a/c was also not on when we arrived so it took well over an hour for the cottage to become comfortable. I was also very afraid to use the jacuzzi tub as it was dirty with yes, more rat poop but the nozzles also looked dirty and who knows how old that tub really is so a bath was forgone. They don't send a confirmation email of your booking even though I was told twice I would receive one and beware of substantial additional charges that are not disclosed up front. Our stay ended up costing over $100 more than expected because of those extra fees. The cost of staying here is an absolute joke for the accommodations which are dirty and highly uncomfortable. Another guest who stayed when we did reported a similar experience. I don't know how they are staying in business because anyone that has the experience we did will certainly never come back and I hope that the people who read this find any other housing option, this place is not worth your money. I'm sure it was a beautiful location when it was built but the lack of attention to landscape and upkeep are obvious. It is grown up with lots of vines and brush, some even rub on the sides of your vehicle. The food that was left was quite tasty. Once inside the cabin, it had a rustic vibe without an updated feel. The 13 inch tv and spotty internet was a disappointment. It was clean, but very overpriced.
