He has been so effective in relieving…read morepain for me in a number of situations, pain that did not respond to usual interventions, like epidurals, dry needling, radio-frequency nerve ablation, etc. It is such a blessing when chronic pain is relieved. It's a life-changer.

You know you've picked the right acupuncturist when…read more.. ...you actually feel excited for them to stick needles in your body and it doesn't really hurt. ...you see their ridiculously awesome credentials framed and hung in exam rooms (framed certificate from President Clinton, letters from NIH, old newspaper articles from Library of Congress, etc.) ...there's a waiting list for appointments ...the waiting room is so crowded, there's no place to sit ...the staff remembers your name everytime you come and are always smiling and friendly ...you actually feel sad that today is your last appointment. ----------- I was referred by yelper, Kim N to Wildwood Acupuncture Center and I'm so thankful I got to talk to her and get her recommendation when I saw her at the Sail Away event back in May. The Friday I was told I needed surgery, I immediately called and made an appointment at WAC. I had an appointment for Monday. Upon arrival, I filled out some forms and was thankful to see that they did accept insurance. Coverage varies from plan to plan and I'm thankful that my visits were 90% covered but it's still unclear how many visits they've paid for (still waiting for word on that). On the first visit, you can expect to be there for an hour and a half. During this 1hr+ period, you'll have a full evaluation (q+a) and then the acupuncture. You put on a paper gown and lay however instructed. (Me, on my left side facing the wall.) In general, I'm not afraid of needles...unless I'm watching you stick one in me. Thankfully, since my area of complaint is my back, I never had to watch him put one of the needles in my skin. You might be wandering what it feels like? Well, depending on where the needle goes, I either felt a bit of pressure but no pain, or I didn't feel it at all! Most times, I thought I just heard a flicking-type sound when they were inserted but I didn't feel it. Now, once the needle is in, however, when he pushes it in further or angles it differently - that is an entirely different feeling; sometimes painful, sometimes not. There were times when I felt tingly, felt some kind of something shoot down my leg or across my side. Dr. Xiao Ming Tian would stick the needles in the appropriate spot based on what the pain was like that day. Some days it hurt down my leg so he'd make sure there was a needle in my back area to address that pain. One day I mentioned I had a headache so he gave me additional needles in my head/neck (which was awesome!). Once all the needles are in, they need to stay in for 30-45 minutes. A heat lamp hangs over the acupuncture spots and it's nap time. That's right - a doctor sanctioned nap! I found over the last 14 sessions that while I actually slept some of the time, 80% of the the rest of the time I felt like I was in that place between asleep and awake and it was downright relaxing. When time is up, they come back in the room and take out the needles, you put your clothes back on and you go home and repeat the next day or however many visits Dr. Tian recommends. In my case, it was 15. I'll be honest, I was really quite skeptical about acupuncture at the beginning. I figured I'd give it a go but had low expectations. Thus far, it hasn't "cured" my back but it has significantly helped with managing the pain. It has also brought my blood pressure down to normal human numbers again so I'm very very pleased about that. (This was a result, apparently, of the placement of one needle in my forearm.) Yea...I'm a believer now! I've never been more eager to spread the word about a doctor, let alone an acupuncturist but I'm telling you - if you ever considered acupuncture before, come see Dr. Xiao Ming Tian at Wildwood. He is a darling older Chinese man who is extremely intelligent, very kind and truly cares about his patients. (Also, he gave me a Chinese restaurant recommendation in Rockville that I'm excited to check out! Seven Seas.)

We identified I had a yin deficiency, which I have heard from other practitioners before. I was told I have inflammation from the "heat" from the yin deficiency. All made sense to me. There was no type of improvement that I could see. I was uncomfortable during the acupuncture and was barely relaxed. I've seen other practitioners and did not have this kind of experience. I really wanted to like this practice so it was disappointing. I wanted to commit to doing it for a year, but I just couldn't hold out because I was actively suffering through the acupuncture. (And I'm a fan of it!) What really got me was that Dr. Hou would see me every week and say the exact same things for 4 months. "Tongue getting better." Or "Toenails are still dark red (low oxygen) but getting better." This on repeat for 4 months. There was no visible or internal improvement on my end. I committed completely and took her suggestions. I tried to tell her my concerns, but she had no answers for me. Just that it will take a long time and that my "cells need to grow." If I had a dime for every time I was told my "cells need to grow," here I would be rich. I understand TCM and have no issue with waiting, but the constant "you're getting better" was suspicious. I had a bad feeling about it. I was basically told to wait a year to see improvement, but the repetition felt very "snake oil salesman" to me. Not to mention, the place seems like it hasn't been deep cleaned in a very long time. The tables are uncomfortable. The prices are decent, so if you want to give it a try and see if your issues resolve unlike mine, give it a shot! I saw a lot of great reviews so I really wanted to give it a solid try. But I need to get a second opinion after this experience. I was sketched out and had to trust my gut.

Lisa-Marie has been treating me for these conditions as well as constipation, arthritic pain and fear and anxiety. There has never been a session when I did not walk out feeling better than when I entered. So far, the relief she's given me seems to be only temporary but for anyone living with chronic pain, even a day or two of relief can renew hope and give a person a new lease on life. She is very efficient managing appointments (3 treatment rooms going at once) and I have never had to wait. She starts on time and ends on time. One thing I have especially appreciated about working with Lisa Marie is the investment she has made into using additional elements to further enhance the effectiveness on the needles. Examples include infrared heat lamps, electric stimulation, heated massage tables, sound machines and a special chair for expecting mothers. She wastes little time with chit-chat and tends to get right down to business without going into detail regarding the points she selects. She does so, however with such confidence and skill and I am inclined to put my trust in her - that she really knows what she's doing. My only job then, is to put aside all skepticism (not really a skeptic. I know acupuncture works) and let the needles do their thing.

She referred me to Dr Yang at Rejuvinations Wellness. Dr Yang asked me to send her a picture of my tongue so she could prepare the right herbs for me. I know TDM docs often look at the tongue, so I didn't think this was strange at all! Based on the photo, she sent me two packets of herbs; one preventative, the other in case of fever. I haven't had a fever in at least 10 yrs. Well, I got a fever and sore throat mid July... I immediately took the "fever" herbs and of course did other sensible things like rest, plenty of fluids, chicken soup,... The sore throat went away within hours, the fever was gone in a day and a half and other than feeling tired for a few days, I didn't have any other symptoms. I don't know what it was, but I'm getting another batch of the herbs. Did I mention I haven't had a fever in 10 yrs... They are not cheap, but truthfully, my health is worth it. If respected TDMs are referring their patients to Dr Yang, that really says alot about their respect for her capabilities! CFR in Virginia Beach, VA

Do you suffer from any of the following: anxiety, insomnia, congestion and indigestion, knee pain?…read more Yes? Well, acupuncture can help you. What is acupuncture? Hell if I can explain it. All I know is that it works. When I moved, finding a new acupuncturist was at the top of the list. My health insurance covers it, so it's only a co-pay (check yours). I called my insurance, and there were so many to choose. I went through the list, looking at their credentials. Bingo! Maryland University for Integrative Health, one of the best acupuncture schools in the nation. My second criteria was someone who was a little old school. All signs pointed to A1. Now, the old school way is not gentle. In fact, Wun Hee lovingly calls me kitty cat, because I howl so much. But I'm a big baby. However, I suffer through a momentary zap or sting, so my issues can be resolved. The newer way--not going as deep--isn't as effective immediately (on me), imho. After a while, your qi will flow. Where it hurts is where you're blocked. It will go away, the more you go. After 4 visits, Wun Hee has me sleeping better. I now reach REM sleep every night and remember my dreams. I have better clarity during the day and my digestive issues are evening out. We're still working on my knee pain, but that will probably take longer, since there are residual issues from breaking my patella 3 years ago. Each time, Wunhee takes copious notes on my feedback and where she's needling. This isn't a silver bullet, as many people like to think. Some tweaking needs to happen. Time needs to pass. She finally hit the "formula" on round three. Hurrah! This fourth visit, I finally fell asleep on the table--complete relaxation, exhale. As a response to the other poster, Wun Hee has never proselytized to me, while I've been in her office. I'm sure that if you said you were uncomfortable with anything, she would take note and adjust it like the professional that she is (I did regarding the old school way, and we worked up to it). She really has a gift and is very kind and loving. Take advantage of the Groupon offer. I also took a star off for the parking lot. No matter what time of day I go, maneuvering the parking lot and/or finding parking is anxiety inducing. It's a good thing I have an appointment with Wun Hee. Notes: Wunhee may open a package of needles and use some on some patients and then use the remaining on another. She also does not wear gloves and may wipe away blood with her bare hand. Both of these things may make people feel uncomfortable.
