The good: easy to make a last minute appointments. Also really great deep massage. The bad: paid for 75 minutes. I looked at my watch when massage began and ended. Only got 65 minutes. Whole on table, therapist tells me it costs $10 more for deep work. Ok fine. Then when I go to pay she tells me a 30% tip is recommended and expected. Then she tells me since $85 massage (now a $95 massage should get $30 tip. On top of that they won't take a check and add 4% on top of total and tip for use of credit card . Totally ruined what was a very good massage. I usually tip 15 to 20% tip based on service. Here my $85 massage ended up costing me over $130! read more

This was a spontaneous visit because it was early morning and I was in the area but I really needed to get some kinks out on my shoulders after a chiropractor appointment. I called their number and got Sarah who was kind enough to take me early. The reception was cosy and clean. So was the bathroom. My massage was great and Sarah hit the spots. Hidden gem in an industrial small business lot near Rockville pike. Their online booking process is efficient. Location is convenient with plenty of parking. Their facility is not a plush high end spa but that was not a priority since our focus was getting a good massage and facial. Still, the room is nicely appointed. You won't get the typical advice on skin care from the lovely staff. Instead, you get quick and efficient service. I've seen quite a few massage therapist and estheticians over the past couple of years and always come away feeling very relaxed. This experience was no different. I have had a lot of massages and have been to many spas, so I can confidently say this was by far one of the best massages I've ever had. If you are a massage enthusiast, I highly recommend this place. I called the day before and made an appointment. They confirmed the morning of via text, and I made my way to the office park where the spa is located. The office park is large and has plenty of parking. To avoid getting lost, park immediately near the lot entrance and you will find the storefront on the main road. The lobby area is nicely decorated with comfortable seating. This is not like some spas where they put an emphasis on ambiance with drinks and robes and all the extra amenities- but again, for the quality of the massage I got, I could care less about amenities lol. I had a 60 minute deep tissue massage. The massage therapist asked me about any areas I'd like to focus on, and she really worked on those areas. She made sure to check in throughout the hour to make sure the pressure was okay as well. She also confirmed before doing the scalp and face part of the massage, which I appreciated as some people would not like their hair or faces touched. The highlight of the massage was definitely the feet. I have never had such a thorough full body massage! I really feel like so many places rush on scalp and feet, and most don't include the face either. But here, it was really a full body massage. The prices also cannot be beat. I called at least 8 other spas in the area and they were almost double the price. The deep tissue massage was great. But the atmophere was dark and furniture was so old that when I sat I sunk into a worn hole. My alergies immediately inflamed like I walked into an old dusty house. Had a lovely massage here. Staff were kind, my massage was phenomenal and left me wanting more (don't they always, though!). My massage therapist was small but mighty, and paid attention to my trouble areas (neck/shoulders - probably quite common for this generation of computer users!). Loved the use of the oil and hot stones on my back - it was so so so relaxing. Only complaint is that when I arrived, there was no staff at the check-in desk - and I was right on time. In fact I waited for a while (maybe 5-8 minutes) before anyone arrived at the desk despite me calling out "Hello!". How could anyone rate this place highly? Seriously? This place is old, moldy smelling, old very very worn stained furniture (ancient dumpster finds?) dark and dank. Nothing about it spoke spa! Did not put massage face cover on the tattered face rest. Didn't say face up or face down. Just horrible and felt unsafe. I said no thanks, I'm not having a massage here and left. As a Christmas gift for my mother my boyfriend got us a massage day at the spa. I went in just with the idea that I will not like it. I did three massages in my life time and only one out of three was worth it. Let me tell you, this is the 2nd time I will say this was worth it. Yes when you walk in there nobody at the front, but it is okay they are there. We got escorted to our rooms and the beds were so warm. We were so relaxed, my mother was not us to the whole process so I had to make her see it was okay. So I just had the most amazing massage here with Angela. Syl is a quiet, off the beaten track spa that sits in the Executive townhome business park just off Rockville Pike. There's plenty of parking in the back but the spa itself (just so you know, as otherwise it can be a bit consuming) is on the lower level and faces the street. There's a small sign outside the door and a bright orchid plant in the window but otherwise no obvious signage so you have to be looking for this spa with purpose, I doubt they have much walk-by business. My masseuse, Angela, was incredible. I've been having issues with my neck and shoulders for several weeks - and finally this morning decided to do something about it. My normal go-to spas were all booked up, though, so I turned of course to Yelp where I found Syl Spa: I'm so glad I did! I'm updating my review in response to the manager's message. A few points: I wasn't wearing a mask for the duration of the massage, so my sense of my smell was unobstructed - I smelled a dampness, not alcohol. Fitting, especially considering the surfaces I was in contact with were the carpeting and linens. I also in no way mean to suggest that it indicates a lack of hygiene on behalf of the spa staff - it was simply noticeable and unpleasant. I also take issue with the manager stating that they discussed the difference between the types of massage with me- no such conversation was had (not once, let alone twice), nor was it needed. I've had Swedish massages in the past, and the technique involves a variety of strokes. My issue was that the pace and techniques used were one-note, especially towards the end. I considered lowering the rating on the basis of the manager's response not being factual, but I'd take that into account when deciding whether or not to make an appointment. read more

This place was amazing very clean and calming rooms. I was immediately asked what areas were giving me trouble I alerted to her to eliminate migraines, and it was a great focus on the area of relief. I used the information on the site to schedule an appointment I was contacted within the hour. Prompt and professional with a next day availability. I got the 60 min session with more focus on the upper back, shoulders, neck and head, but of course she worked on full back and legs muscles just not as long. I'm not new to massages they have always played a huge role in keeping migraines in order however covid put my regular visits on pause. I think I'm back! This location is effective and very reasonably priced to the point I'll probably have regular weekly/ biweekly visits. Much rather do this than taking medicine that makes me extremely drowsy. Wow was this a great massage! I booked online with any employee, and Anna is who did my massage. She was absolutely amazing. She kept a very firm and consistent pressure throughout the whole massage, and even found knots I didn't even know I had. She also included some wonderful stretching in the massage that really loosened me up. I would highly recommend her! This is definitely the best massage I have had in a long time! I have seen a few reviews saying that the main lobby did not give off "spa vibes". I would say that these are older buildings in general. The main lobby is simple and clean, and should not be used to judge the quality of the place. The rooms and beds are very clean, and like I mentioned above, the massages are fantastic. Definitely was a nice appointment. And the massage therapists definitely know how to massage! However, the tip expected is simply too high. And the appointment feels so rushed. As soon as you walk in the door, they are ready to get you over with. If you walk in at 12:53pm, then that's when your appointment starts. Not 1:00pm. They don't ask you enough questions prior to starting either. Hardly any questions at all. Also, this place is perfect for you if you are looking to relax. I fell asleep a couple of times during the massage. However, I was looking for really deep strong pressure, and I didn't really get that, even though I scheduled Deep Tissue and asked for more pressure. Instead I got some sleep. So it feels like I just got rubbed up on, but not massaged. I left still in a lot of pain, which just makes me feel like I wasted tons of money. Go ahead and treat yourself because the pricing cannot be beat: $90 for a 90 minute massage. The location might be a little hard to find because their storefront faces the street, but GPS will take you right to it, with ample parking in the back. While I wouldn't say this is a high-end massage parlor, it definitely is quaint and gets the job done. I found my go-to place for massages! I'm not the type to go regularly since it is a treat for me but I know I will be coming back! I admit it was difficult to find the actual office after parking because of the layout of the business park and the numbering. This is not the fault of SYL but Sarah was so helpful and stayed with me on the phone until I could find the location. This made me a few minutes late for my appointment but Sunny made sure I got my full 60 minutes still! Sunny was amazing. I am petite but prefer a high-pressure massage due to knots in my shoulders. This is my favorite place to get a massage. It's a no frills, hole in the wall, reasonably priced massage parlor. Honestly I don't even want too many people to know about this place because I want their services all to myself! But because I love it so much, for the better of their business here I am :) One phone call and I'm in their office same day. It's like they are always ready to go and excited to see you! Their storefront can be tricky to find the first time, but call them and they will guide you. I always go with my friend and we get a couples room haha. I am always comfortable asking them to apply more or less pressure, or to focus on one area over the other. The ladies here are absolutely wonderful. From booking your appointment to paying for your services, they are kind and attentive the entire time. UPDATE to 4 stars - the owner of the salon gave me a call and apologized for the delay, and reminded me that I did in fact let them know that I may be running late. We ended up getting to the salon on time, and I expected they would be able to accommodate us at the originally scheduled time. However, it is a small salon and it appears they took my "we may be running 15min late" to be a "we want to push our appt 15min back" and adjusted staff schedules accordingly. Understandable misunderstanding. I would give this salon another try another time. 3.5 Stars: I booked a couples massage for my husband and I, and got a confirmation text that AM which was great. But when we got there, the woman at the reception seemed surprised that we had a booked a couples, and had to make a couple phone calls before she led us back to the room. It seemed that she was the only one there, bc my massage started 10min after my husbands once someone else showed up. It was a little annoying but the massage was pretty good! The woman who did mine kept checking in about pressure which was nice, and the pressure was nice and firm. The environment could have been more relaxing though, since the music was pretty low and we could hear the two ladies talking to each other in Mandarin. The ambiance made me feel at peace immediately as I entered: peaceful music, calming colors, I think I recall the sound of running water somewhere.. The staff are extremely friendly and have calming personalities. As usual, before the massage begins they ask you if you want light, medium, or hard and ACTUALLY follow through. Throughout the massage, they will continue to check up on you to make sure the correct pressure is being applied. My favorite part is that they FIND your knots and get down in them. Let's be clear: No frills, all technique. I've come to SYL ~4 times. All same-day appointments made impulsively after a stressful day. I have never, ever been disappointed. It's almost like a "hole in the wall" spot, but it's not, it's just a storefront in a business park in Bethesda, which is unusual for a massage parlor. Everything is clean, and the decor is classic, slightly eccentric, dimly lit, but again, clean. They seem to be practicing some COVID guidelines--wearing masks during massage and clean sheets between guests etc. I had Kim today and she was outstanding. Very skilled and thorough. I asked her to focus on my neck and shoulders and guess what? She did! You know how you ask them to focus on an area that bothers you and it seems like they give it the same attention as the rest of your body? Not Kim! She went to work on the knots and tension in my neck, shoulders, and back with plentyyy of pressure. She honestly didn't miss one spot on my body, felt like she worked on every single muscle. She also contorted my body for deeeep stretches which I was so grateful for. Kim was also kind enough to throw in some hot stones (for my neck) and reflexology, which is another thing I really like about this place. They work really hard to provide great service and relief to the customer without a bogus up-charge for every little thing. I got a 1-hour massage for $60 and left a tip. It was truly a convenience and a luxury to call at 7:15pm and get an appt for 8pm the same night. I will continue being a happy customer of SYL. read more

I had difficulty finding the actual store front at night (in an office park, can't park in front of it, whoops). I felt safe once in the waiting area and room and everything was clean. I know some places do a robe after you change but this is not the case here (not a problem! Just noting!). I thought I would check this place out and see what all the hubbub is about. Finding the place wasn't to difficult. They are on Excutive Blvd and they have a nice bright red door in the front of the buliding. The buliding number is 6121 and the is plenty of parking in the back. I like the Christmas tree they have going on in the display. Upon walking to the door, I knocked and entered the building. I did not see anyone there, so I called out about there was no answer. Maybe someone has their head phones or just can't here me. I call out again several times, but there is nobody there. I check the rooms quickly and saw no one was there, but more importantly no one was hurt or unconscious. Heading back to the front, I ran into the owners daughter. It turned out the were only open for two special massages for customers that called in advance. Since she was with her daughter, I figured if this person(s) don't show, I don't want to keep them there any longer than they have to. I decided to come back another day, but I will call first. I don't wish to have another awkward moment like this one. I did find out that an hour massage is $60 and a half an hour is $40. They have a special going on that if you are a first time, you get your hour massage for $50. Couples massage is a hundred under the special. The lay out of the place looked very warm and inviting. I just wish someone was there when I came in. The couples room looked to be the biggest room. The only quest I forgot to ask is if they offer gift card for this place, but I will check the website first. This was a spur of the moment decision and it seems I really nail the awkward meter...
