Visited this place twice on a recent trip. First time was around lunch time and very good - a bit of a wait but we didn't mind. The second time we went just after they opened and the woman behind the deli was not very friendly. My husband is a vegetarian so we asked if we could get a breakfast sandwich without the meat. She said sure (awesome!) but then still charged us for the meat (not so awesome). The sandwich was okay. Just a warning to vegetarians - there are much better options in the area. read more

Great sandwich shop. Stopped in 9/25/23 around 1pm. Four people ahead of us ordered and we placed our order for a #2 and a #10. Got in line to pay and had our orders before we finished paying. Walked outside and found a high top table available to enjoy the Classic Reuben and Dano's Italian sub. Grabbed some mayo and mustard where you order for the sub. We did not se any place to eat inside but the day was pleasant 65F so no problem eating outside. Otherwise we would have to eat them in the car or take them back to the resort. I don't remember being so disappointed years ago. Reading these reviews, it's clear the new owners are trying to reduce costs and it shows. We stopped here on a whim after a long hike on Mount Mansfield. I'm so glad we did because this was by far one of our favorite places in Stowe. They have a bunch of amazing sandwiches and other baked goods at the deli. I had the pastrami sandwich, and it was the best I've ever had in my life. In their store they have lots of local Vermont cheeses and desserts so it's a good place to stop if you're trying to load up on your way out of town. Their sandwiches were so good we went again just 18 hours later for another round. If you're looking for a place for lunch, I would highly recommend stopping here! read more

They've gone downhill. A lemon bar that doesn't taste like lemon. Sandwich descriptions online that don't match their in person menu. The turkey was dry, meatball sub was flavorless. Sigh. Very cute deli and grocery store I stumbled upon. I was looking for a good quick place to get a sandwich, I googled and was directed to Edelweiss. I looked around for a few and then put my order in at the deli. I ended up getting a tuna melt. I haven't had a tuna melt in years and was pleasantly surprised, the tuna salad had great flavor and they are not shy with their ingredients. We had a meatball grinder, terrible, the bread was like a hot dog roll, the meat balls were gritty, sauce poor, and the cheese was hard to find. The cost was $2.00 more than the web site price. After the quarantining, the hiking and the social distancing fun, we were all hungry in our rental at Stowe. And no, we're not going anywhere to eat inside. No, no, no. So we started looking at takeout places. And Edelweiss had quite a following. We called for four deli sandwiches to a most pleasant man, and the sandwiches were ready in fifteen minutes when we picked them up. Our sandwiches were a range of tastes and ingredients and yet everyone said they were delicious. I had the roast beef and it came in a Kaiser with cole slaw in the sandwich, lettuce, tomato, cheese, avocado and mustard. Really, finger-licking good. My cousin had the Lake Champlain a succulent bagel with Lox, Cream Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, and Bermuda Onion. My husband had the Dano's Italian Sub with Capicola, Ham, Salami, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato & Onion, and my other cousin enjoyed the Tuna Melt with Vermont Cheddar. We stopped in to have lunch and picked up some sandwiches. The deli meats were delicious and the flavors and bread offered were excellent. They really focus on the meat (hey it's a deli), so if you like more veggies on your sandwiches, consider one of their many vegan options or ask for a heavier veggie balance. The day we visited, they even had a tasting of Bar Hill gin. If local brews and sodas are more your style, they have a lot of selection here. The deli does not have seating, so be prepared with a nice spot to enjoy your food. In the summer, this could be one of the many outdoor spots for a picnic. read more

Found this place while we were driving around after two days of trying to figure out what to eat for dinner. Everything is reasonably priced as opposed to where we're staying in Trapp Family Lodge where they want $25 for one chicken sandwich and deli sandwiches that who knows when they were made for $13.50. My Fiancé and I got a few sandwiches and a few pastries. Sandwiches were awesome and definitely worth the money. During our stay, we stopped in three times out of our five day stay. Where do I begin? I'm going to start with the maple whoopee pie. I gravitate to whoopee pies because they're like portion-controlled cake. Baked on the premises, this delectable pie was bursting with maple-ness - just exceptional (see photo of my last bite). For the main course I ordered the veggie sandwich. If I recall correctly it was #17, with fresh veggies and 3 different cheeses on sourdough. It, too, was delicious. When I first saw it I thought, "I'm going to have them wrap half of this and take it home" because it was so large. But before I knew it, I'd devoured the entire sandwich. Washed it all down with Mansfield Dairy's Chocolate Milk, which tastes like a milkshake it's so good. The store itself has a great vibe. While I was there I saw a lot of people come in who knew others in the store, making this a great community hangout - kind of what you'd expect in Vermont. Reminded me of the old general stores I used to frequent in the Adirondacks years ago. As someone who "occasionally" enjoys a good beer, I have to say that the beer selection was superb. Edelweiss Mountain Deli was the perfect ending to our visit to Stowe which also included stopping by The Alchemist Brewery and walking the Stowe Recreational Trail. Why so rude? When I worked at Mt Top in 2011 this place used to be a big part of my existence and would always get huge thanks/tips for recommending to guests. Since returning to Stowe this year I've been so let down by the attitude of the proprietors. Always the long stares and one woman is so rude, it looks like it takes all her self control to not spit on you. The location and convenience couldn't be beat but apparently they don't want my business, so I'll take it elsewhere. Super adorable little deli! I would frequent it all the time if I it was near me, subsequently going broke because I wanted all the food!! So many amazing bakery items. I had to stop myself from getting more than one... though I may stop by before I leave town and get some treats for my kids. I picked out a couple local craft beers for my husband too. The man running the register was very friendly and helped us find a good place to have dinner (we LOVED his recommendation too!). To top it all off, we walked in right at closing time and they were super generous to let us find what we wanted. The deserts we walked out with were delish, BTW! After vacationing in Stowe for a week we stopped here to get some some sandwiches to have for dinner when we we got home and not have to shop or cook. When we got the sandwiches we saw they were pretty small - and not a good value for the money. My husband got the "king size" corned beef sandwich. This was for $4 more than the "regular" corned beef sandwich. It came on a hamburger roll? with one single thin slice of cheese and my $10 Montrealer sandwich was no more substantial. So we stopped at the supermarket on the way home for more food and my husband took the meat from his sandwich and put it on new bread and added some cheese to make a decent sandwich. I don't know, but at any deli in our neighborhood we would have got 2 or 3 times the food for the money. I'd rather pay more than pay less and get a skimpy sandwich. Also the staff weren't very nice. There were no smiles or friendly words despite trying to engage them and I felt like an imposition rather than a customer. read more
