Found myself in Morrisville somewhat randomly today and was hungry. The great Yelp reviews led me to Thompson's. I got there a little before closing, so it was just the staff and me. I ordered a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and cheese on their house-made honey wheat, with cranberry mayo to go. The woman who took my order was very pleasant and gave me all my options. While waiting, I chatted with another woman (presumably the owner) who was also very nice, and we had a pleasant little conversation. The sandwich was frankly amazing. It had a generous amount of turkey, and the veggies were very fresh. The bread was cut nice and thick, the way good homemade bread should be. I'm glad I went with the cranberry mayo over plain, as it was a delicious addition. I can't think of anything I would have changed, except maybe adding bacon. I can't fault them, though; that one is all on me. Next time I'm back in Morrisville, I will definitely stop by again. read more

Walking into Thompson's you feel the friendly, upbeat vibe. It's a family run business who are there daily, working and smiling. Their homemade bread is exceptional -especially the honey oat. Sandwiches are the best, but the chili and soups are also excellent. We always buy a bag of chocolate chip cookies and a frozen pot pie to put in the freezer at home. Our favorites are the Canadian meat pie and the chicken pot pie. We always take our out-of-town guests there for a treat. read more

Found ourselves in Morrisville to wash our car after arriving in Vermont during the tail end of mud season. This place serves good quality sandwiches and has quick service--nothing crazy or over the top, just good size sandwiches made fresh to order. Their food is to die for. I have not found many restaurants I can say this about. I am so lucky to work right around the corner and get their amazing sandwiches, soups, and baked goods often. The homemade bread is mouth-wateringly good, the quality of their ingredients is top notch, and the cleanliness and atmosphere of the restaurant is on-point. The family who owns it, as well as all the experienced staff, know what they're doing and make you want to come back again and again. I have family who come from other towns over 30 mins away to eat here. The sandwich, chips, cookie and drink combo are well worth the price. I give it 5 stars. A true gem of Morristown! read more

A good sandwich always gets my attention. I had a half of a Curried Chicken Salad sandwich on honey oatmeal bread & a half of a Pilgrim Sandwich. The Curried Chicken sandwich was very good but I personally would have made the curry flavor much more intense. The Pilgrim sandwich was a panini with turkey & cranberries. The cranberries were sparse. More berries would have really punctuated the flavors much better. The owner of the shop was very friendly & the breads were amazing. read more

We love this place. Have been there many times for lunch. It is especially nice in the summer when you can sit on the patio. They make a great BLT and I appreciate that they offer gluten free bread. The staff is always nice and the food arrives quickly. I can't eat the cookie but love that my drink and a bag of chips are included. Great food. Terrible drink selection. I get lunch here frequently and have started bringing my own drink. All they have is canned soda, Nantucket Nectars juices, bottled water. Lots of sugary drinks. I just wish they would upgrade the drink selection to be more "Vermonty". Maybe some Kombucha? Or unsweetened tea? read more

Found this gem while collecting donations for the local college. When I first walked in the door I was taken away by the smell of freshly baked bread, and surrounded by the soft buzz of other patrons talking and laughing amongst themselves. I ordered a roast turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo on honey wheat bread, by far the best sandwich I have ever tasted in years. The prices are a bit high for the area they are in, but after tasting their food it is worth every cent (plus they do give you a cookie, so there's that) the owner is a very vermont type, and loves a good converstion, as do the rest of the employees. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, they provide speedy service for take out or sit in dining, be it just a cold sandwich or a more in depth grilled sandwich they will not fail to impress. The sandwiches are made on fresh fresh fresh homemade bread and all the fixin's are always, juicy / crunchy / tender / fresh / whatever adjective you want to use to describe sandwich fillings! My favorite part of getting a sandwich here is the chocolate chip (or if you prefer, oatmeal) cookie that comes with it! Fresh baked and mm mmm MMMM!!! My wife and I were glad we stopped in and will go back before we leave the area. Before writing this I looked over previous reviews. Truly a one-of-a-kind gem that is worth driving great distances for. I have been coming here since the mid 1990's and still regard it as one of the best lunch spots in the country (world?). It's really the bread that makes Thompsons truly memorable, but the non-bread items are just as special. I try to stop here every time I'm in town, which isn't enough these days. Keith and son Zach (Zack?) are great folks and have been running one hell of a business for many years now. I have yet to see their new location but hope to stop in one day soon. read more

Excellent sandwiches, and they had a wonderful gazpacho soup, which I don't see often. I had a pastrami sandwich, with horseradish mayo, on honey nut bread. My companion has a great chili and hot grilled chicken sandwich. Soup and sandwich for both of us. Comes with a cookie. Reasonably prices for great quality and good portions. A good place to stop for a quick bite to eat. They offer a nice selection of breakfast sandwiches and pastries in the morning and sandwiches and soup in the afternoon. Prices are good for the portions sizes. While most sandwiches are good, I wouldn't recommend the paninis. I'm not sure how they make them, but the bread gets soggy and mushy and falls apart while you're trying to eat them. I also wouldn't recommend the curried chicken salad unless you really like curry. The flavor is very strong. I wish they offered it with and without curry. Also, the service varies. The owner is very pleasant. The lady who works there can make you feel like she's doing you a favor by waiting on you. I arrived at 11:05 one day last week and was told they couldn't make a breakfast sandwich past 11:00. There was no one in the place and no cars parked in front 15 minutes later when I got into my car after buying my sandwich across the street at Bees Knees. read more

The first sandwich I had here was delicious. Today I ordered the Apple and Smoked Gouda grilled cheese. It was advertised that it came on wheat bread, but when I got the sandwich, I saw that the bread had raisins in it. I really hate raisins, but I was willing to work around them. I couldn't though, the sweetness of this sandwich was just too overpowering. There was clearly a lot of cinnamon in the bread and on the apples, and it didn't taste good at all. If you are going to put apples on a sandwich, it will always taste better if the apples are fresh and crunchy and not cooked and mushy. After looking forward to a sandwich from Thompson's all day (the Grilled Venice I had the first time was great!), this sandwich made me very sad and disappointed. read more

Reuben panini was very tasty, nicely toasted bread, lean flavourful pastrami with good sauerkraut. Coffee good, from a thermos, several flavors available. You get a choice of oatmeal or chocolate chip cookies with the sandwich. The pastries looked good also, but we were too full to try. They also have soups and chili. Sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and soups. The day we went there they were out of chili (which I hear is very good) and only one other soup choice that did not interest me. So, I stuck with a sandwich - curried chicken salad on wheat. The bread was clearly homemade, fresh, and very good. I probably will ask for toasted next time just because it was so fresh that it had a hard time standing up to holding the generous serving of chicken salad. The small cookie on the side was quite yummy, though sadly had been placed on the pickle slice and tasted of pickle juice. There was a nice mix of locals, with some of your usual characters that make a place feel friendly and familiar within a matter of minutes. S.O. had the special - a lobster roll. He was not fully satisfied, saying it felt heavy on the mayo and light on the lobster. But he rarely finds a lobster roll that knocks his socks off. read more
