The donuts and baked goods at WSMD are homemade and enticing, but we passed them by for the breakfast sandwiches, which are freshly made to order. I also ordered a lunch sandwich for later in the day. The breakfast sandwiches were hands-down the best we've every eaten: freshly cracked eggs broken and over-easy, with local Vermont cheese on freshly homemade english muffin, and a few dashes of Tabasco (my addition). Wow. My lunch sandwich was also delicious, with firm home-made bread and nice helpings of very fresh ingredients. Very satisfying. Unfortunately, that changed quickly when I saw an employee loading the tomatoes and lettuce into the aluminum serving tins with her bare hands, directly scooping from a larger plastic storage bin. No gloves, no utensils. Just bare hands fully in the food. That's unsanitary and violates Vermont health code (§3-301.11), which prohibits bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food.
