The rooms are larger than most care centers and she had a private bathroom that was very spacious. The staff spends time with EACH resident, whether watching television, doing her nails, reading to her or in the many group activities. If you mother/father does not like group activities staff will spend time with them one on one. Each wing has around 12 rooms and has its own sitting area with couches, chairs and a big screen television. Each wing also has an area with tables for games or private meals. We used this area frequently when we brought in special meals for mom. This is the best care facility that I have ever visited.

Melissa's actions were completely insensitive, uncooperative, unethical, and deceitful so that she can create her own outcome based on her bias. "Her word against the families". We made attempts for our Case Worker to be present for Melissa's evaluation and she did not even acknowledge she knew who the potential resident was nor returned phone calls so that our Case Worker could be present as his representative. She lied several times about several situations in order to sabotage the outcome. Based on 2 additional nursing and professional evaluations for my family member, Melissa's feedback is discriminatory. BrightStar has not taken action against this nurse on former complaints from others in similar situations so now there are black marks against BrightStar and Walden Point of Des Moines. "Your're only as strong as your weakest link". There is recourse if you're reading this and have complaints of your own. Iowa Board of Inspections and Appeals, State Ombudsman and make sure you have a Case Worker to represent your Senior resident/potential resident. If these actions are never reported, BrightStar, Melissa M.and Walden Point will continue their unprofessional and unethical practices that effect the best interest of the Assisted Living Residents.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place and all the staff that helped make this very difficult chapter in my sister's life peaceful.

Expect them to serve your loved one dinner before you get there so they can't enjoy the food you brought from their favorite restaurant. Expect to have to move your party half way through the celebration because the corner they stuck you in has been taken over by Bingo night.
