I am having a hard time deciding between 2 and 3 stars on this one…read more We hosted our parent's 50th anniversary celebration here. I have been to a wedding here previously as well. Let's start with the building itself. The center lobby area is nice, and includes a cozy fireplace area, a nice touch. Bathrooms seem fine to me, they were nice, and also clean the night of our event. The entrance outside could be a little nicer. The room was nice. They included table linens and chair covers which was great. The table decor is very basic so we decided to have something nicer done by Bright Designs. On a tight budget she was able to provide small but nice table florals. Food. We know food is so important. Our event included the first hour of butler passed, and I do wish I would have had trays pass by me more often. I only saw a tray two times during the hour. The crab cake isn't something I'd recommend, it sounded good but did taste like a Sam's club frozen crab cake. The rest of the evening there were several stations set, including a meet carving station, sweet table, and another table that had appetizers and a cheese platter. The meat station was nice, that was good. The sweet table looked very nice, although i didn't try much - I have never loved sweet tables with the fancy desserts, I find they are usually much prettier than they are tasty. Cake- meh. I was pretty disappointed in the cake. While it was supposed to be a smooth finish with ribbon they decided to embellish it. Also, we were planning to put some orchids on the cake to dress it up, and they took it upon themselves to decorate our cake themselves with a bunch of leftover flowers we didn't want on there. It looked rather terrible but we couldn't do anything about it - as the frosting was smooshed under the florals...so when we tried to remove them, they made a mark. Also, the flavor was very bland. It wasn't dry which is good, but just tasted like not to much of anything. Bartender was awesome, I wish I remembered her name. She was very friendly and did a great job. Overall, we had a great party. I think my hesitation between 2-3 stars comes from the only so-so food, and the cake issue. At the end of the night we still had a blast, had good music, friends and family and most important, my parents loved it!

Going into the room, there are several "dips" in the floor. There is a small sign indicating as such, but easy to miss. I did see one person actually fall & several trip because of this. The room itself was nice. The bathrooms were not particularly clean. Toilets did not flush well. Men's had only 1 stall. Staff did not empty the garbage cans in the bathrooms, so there were paper towels, etc. all over the floor. Speaking of staff - they barely understood English - except the bartender. She was an exceptionaly nice lady! Food was good & was buffet style - plenty of it! During dinner, the power went out. I would think that a place like this out in the middle of nowhere would be prepared for such things. Thank God it came on after about an hour & the evening went on. Food impressive, but not the facility.

My full review and all the details are posted here https://houseofhipsters.com/biltmore-country-club-barrington/ The board made their decision when masking in schools was a hot topic. Before anyone is approved for membership, an email is sent out to existing members, asking for guidance. Members, who knew I was more cautious when it came to masking and my kids, wrote the board asking them to reject our application because of it. The board will refuse to tell you why you were rejected, they just respond by saying, "We stand by our decision". To boot, they informed us by sending a FedEx Express letter that arrived the day after Christmas, and my husband opened and read said letter out loud in front of my kids and parents. The board members did not take the time to meet my family or talk to us. We were left dumbfounded. Biltmore is literally high school all over again. You have the popular girls members and legacy members with a lot of money, and if they don't like you, you won't be allowed into their club. My family's rejection upset and surprised A LOT of people because I'm also a local business owner, a founding member of the Barrington Women In Business group, and President of the Biltmore Oaksbury mom group. Save yourself the time, money, and stress and steer clear of Biltmore. It's not worth the hype. Apply at Barrington Hills Country Club, Wynstone Country Club, or Long Grove.

Located in Peoria Heights, the Country Club of Peoria (CCP) is the oldest members only country club…read morein Peoria as it was chartered before 1900. It is exclusive and members only, The sponsored membership is not inexpensive. Reciprocal privilege is by invitation only, and like a very fine bottle of wine, it is rare. CCP facilities are all upscale, and include private dining room, party room with bar, locker rooms, swimming, 18 hole Non-Equity golf course, fine dining (jacket and tie are required), snack bar, ballroom, private parking, lounge and 24-hour security. It is hidden high in the bluffs in a private court off Grandview Drive. The main dining room offers two magnificent views of the Illinois River Valley. The food and service are excellent. This is the ultimate member's club, as it is every bit as elegant as any private club in the Midwest including Chicago and Minneapolis. . . There are other country clubs is Peoria and the surrounding area that are less opulent. less formal, and much easier to join.

I felt out of place as a 22 year old with a kid sister. I suppose it works for the aging Peoria crowd. I ordered a vodka martini before the meal which was well made. The steak I ordered was cooked rare, just the way I asked. However, it seemed a little over seasoned. I had a glass of Syrah with the main meal which worked well. My sister ordered a seasoned chicken dish. Again, it tasted a little bit over seasoned. Both of our salads were well made with fresh greens and creamy dressings. For desert, we split a Crème brûlée. It surprised me that the dessert portion was tiny. The prices were reasonable considering it is a country club. As far as Peoria goes, dining at CCP is 4/5 stars. After living in Chicago for 3 years, this dining experience leaves something to be desired.

Peggy Hess worked with us to make everything we asked for become a reality. She was extremely knowledgeable and detail oriented, but also kind and flexible, giving advice and direction when needed, and deferring to our vision for everything else. From the very first meeting, we were made to feel at home from everyone at ACC. From the start, Peggy stressed that her goal was to make our dream a reality. To that end, at no point were we given a list of standard "packages", instead always being asked open ended questions about what we wanted. This could be seen in the dinner selection, where instead of a pre-selected list of dishes, we were asked by the chef what kind of flavor profiles we were looking for, and then given a large variety of options that fit our preferences. In the end, the dinner we chose was phenomenal. The club itself is absolutely beautiful. The drive up is on a charming tree lined road, and guests are greeted with a welcomingly large and warm foyer as they walk in, complete with a large fireplace. Our cocktail hour was in a separate room from the main dinner, yet there was plenty of space available to mingle and move around before dinner began. Behind the scenes, the men's and women's locker rooms provided great privacy and security for the wedding party to change and freshen up. The main dining room is lined with windows giving a beautiful vista of the golf course and landscape outside. The wait staff was extremely attentive and prompt, following our schedule perfectly. This attentiveness didn't end after dinner was finished; as the night was coming to a close, Peggy noticed the guest count was still pretty high (a testament to our DJ, but that's a different review). Because of this, without prompting, she had the kitchen prepare more late night snack bags so that no one would go home empty handed. We are beyond happy with our experience at the Aurora Country Club, and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a customized selection of food and appetizers, an accommodating staff, and an elegant space. You will not be disappointed.
