Gorgeous pottery and I've been here many times. Disappointed by the worst customer service today, and it was particularly embarrassing because I'd raved about the place to a friend. As she checked out, the surly clerk grumbled, "We're closed so ya know." It was 5:02 as she checked out and we clearly knew it was closing time. He literally flicked her receipt for the $60 piece of pottery as she said, "Thank you. Have a nice weekend." He didn't even mumble a thank you. Ugh, needless to say I won't be back. read more

I have driven by Edgecomb Potters SO many times over the years and never stopped in until now. I was particularly interested in looking around as I just completed one year of pottery classes, and as a novice, am really interested in taking a close look at the work of the masters. I would say that walking through the beautifully appointed rooms in the gallery were far more like a museum experience than a shopping stop. The pottery pieces here are truly breathtaking. I was astounded at the craftsmanship. The glazes and color work on the pieces were really something special. With that said, there is NO WAY that I could even come close to being able to afford to buy any of these pieces. One mug can run you $50, plates run in the $80 range and larger platters can start at $100 and go far, far past that. To be fair, there was a sale on the deck when I was there. There were mugs and plates available for $5-8 less than usual. This is an extremely high end product, but might still be an interesting stop if you are a pottery enthusiast in general. If you are looking for more affordable pottery though, try Portland Pottery in Portland, ME. They have a lovely, although much smaller collection, with centrist prices. Ironically, the gallery does not have a restroom for visitors, but they do have a porta-potty. I'm thinking that if they are asking customers to drop hundreds on their product, they might want to offer an actual bathroom. Just a suggestion. read more

High quality pottery with beautiful firing in colors that that are in some cases amazing. We had a strong recommendation from the person we were staying with to stop in on our way to our resort in Rockport and again she led us to a great place. Unfortunately we arrived 20 minutes before closing but the manager did not put any pressure on us to hurry up. She was excellent and very helpful in telling us the history and selection of the item we purchased. This store also has consignment artists that display jewelry and beautiful metal working to enjoy and purchase which makes it even more fun. There is even a seconds area up stairs at a 20% discount for less than perfect pieces. Note - We actually happened to find their second store on the waterfront in Portland Maine. Unfortunately we did not have any room left in our luggage or a place to put it at home.... read more

We own a summer home in The area and have been visiting Edgecomb Potters for 25 years. 23 years ago we registered at Edgecomb for our wedding and received $thousands in place settings. Each year we visited the area we would visit this place and spend $100s or more but things changed about 10 years ago when the feeling of the place got more commercial and less family feel. We were in the area a couple days ago, celebrating our 23rd anniversary and we decided to stop in. We pulled up, and began scouring the marked down items they put on the deck before entering. We weren't there 15 seconds when a woman came out and followed us around as if we were going to steal something. Then, 30 seconds later a man came out and ghosted us as well. They didn't offer help, but made us feel very uncomfortable. We spent $45 on a stone piece but were ready to spend much more, so disappointed. Their attitude changed dramatically when they looked up our account at checkout. So sad we were made to feel so bad just die stopping in. We won't visit again. read more

definitely a good destination point if you are along route 27, heading towards boothbay. every time we are in the coastal area of maine, edgecomb potters can expect us to drop some cash. cha-ching. the entrance or deck carries an array of discounted pieces that didn't make the A+ grade (you still will need a good eye to see the imperfection). they are adorned on shelves surrounded by very interesting metal art. make it a point to see handmade pottery full of quality and cool ceramic glazing - stands out above the rest. anyone can kick a wheel and mold a block of clay into a desired creation, but not many are artistically inclined. i highly recommend; great for gifts (everyone who received loves it). don't get burned in a tacky kiln as you will with other knockoff places (not naming, but you can tell the difference). read more

Three and a half stars. We've been stopping at this place every time we've been in Maine. They're celebrating 30 years in business and over time it's grown large. The deck outside is full of racks and tables of pottery seconds and markdowns interspersed among cool metal sculptures, my favorite being a huge flying praying mantis that moves. They have their own pottery and an array of stained glass, jewelry and other interesting pieces in the shop/gallery. There were gorgeous wooden jewelry boxes I coveted but didn't need. There's something coldly commercial about the place that didn't used to be there and I find myself a little repelled rather than drawn in. Over the years we've bought Tam earrings here and a tabletop fountain for Alan's office. I forget what all else we've bought. But I didn't feel the same sense of pleasure wandering here today that I did in Once A Tree or Maine Gathering. read more

Can't recommend this place enough. We visited the Portland gallery in July and fell in love with a beautiful wood, turquoise and copper lamp. I called back in December to see if one was still available for a special Christmas gift. Kevin texted me photos of several options, measured the various lamps and calculated shipping. Then, when UPS would not be able to get the lamp to us in time for Christmas, Chelsea and Donna tracked it down at the UPS store, stopped it from being loaded onto the truck and expedited the shipping.
