This is the most western portion of the Brays bayou trail that goes towards 59 and BW8. It's…read moreprobably also the most quiet and sketchy portion of the trail and the least aesthetic. The bayou is pretty polluted and trash ridden as you move towards the west side and the areas around the trail aren't the best. There's also quite a few sketchy road crossings (looking at Beechnut) that are very busy and not bike/hike friendly. Otherwise the road surface is paved well and it serves as a few mile extension to the Brays bayou trail system.

We've walked almost to Hiram Clark Road from Hillcroft.....according to the map on the bayou greenways 2020 website. The map shows the sidewalk being complete to Hiram, a few other sections are done and some are being completed. The part we walked covered 3.5 miles each way, we turned around because we ran out of go power before we ran out of completed trail/sidewalk. Next time i'll apply more sunscreen. Lots of walking trails and not many people.

I come here for a short half day trip to walk some trails with my kids 5&7. Nothing is too strenuous here for the kiddos. The facilities are typically pretty clean too and there are picnic tables to be able to have a nice lunch or snacks. The park has plenty of trails, picnic areas, fishing spots, and gators! The observatory is always a hit too!

I was surprised on my visit to Brazos Bend State Park. After hearing and reading about people's…read moreexperiences, and seeing pictures online, I thought I knew what to expect...but I was wrong. This park is far away enough from Houston but still close enough for a day trip, which is what I did. It took me about 30 minutes to drive here from Sugar Land. As I approached the entrance gate, I saw that they had two lines of cars with gate booths, just like the national parks. A ranger came out to my car and I registered myself as a day visitor. A park map was given to me and off I went to explore! Brazos Bend SP is larger than I thought it would be. There was a large parking lot and a few trailheads not too far away from the entrance, but I decided to drive past it to the next lot. 2 miles on the road later, the next parking lot was equally large but with much less cars and visitors. There's an interpretive center that was closed when I went, but a water fountain was nearby where I refilled my water bottle. I ended up walking along a combination of trails to get a feel for the place. The trails are mostly flat with asphalt, dirt, and light gravel. The peacefulness of this park is what really convinced me of the gem that this place is. Along the way, I witnessed many birds, including several vulture roosts in the trees. I also saw the American alligator in a pond, which I viewed from a safe distance. It would be quite difficult to reach the river and the ponds because of the natural vegetation in the area, so there weren't any wild alligators on the trails. I didn't get the chance to fully explore this park, but I wouldn't mind returning here another day. The gift shop offers a variety of items to purchase and the rangers seemed knowledgeable about the history of the park. Overall, I enjoyed my time here!

Found this place on a lovely July 14th as I'm ready to drive east back to HOU. Seeing this out of…read morethe corner of my eye, I stopped here and did a walk about the lake and snapped some photos of the ducks. The views are quite lovely with the blue skies being reflected off the water. Very peaceful and overall clean, I look forward to returning here.

Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is such a sanctuary for us to reconnect with Nature, reconnect with ourselves. You can find some other beautiful, less wild trails. Or you can explore this Ravine Trail, known for its wilderness, with most elevation change than the others. Deep shade. Tree community. Here and there you will see lovely bunnies and squirrels. Despite these facts, you still meet with other people here and there, peacefully and quietly making steps. And you might feel more safe because actually, you will hear the sound of cars moving fast in freeway. ( which I wish there is more silent and stillness ) All good. A sanctuary right in the heart of busy Houston. This is great! A BIG PLUS to me was NO MOSQUITOES! ( or maybe I was lucky yesterday.) I felt thankful for all of the effort and hard works contributed to Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. So we can have this beautiful place for our busy urban life. But, overall the trails were nice, everything felt lush and alive! Bring water and don't forget to pay for parking. This spot is a great escape from the city.

Hines lake is a beautiful landscaped lake which features a lot of cool wildlife, awesome boardwalks, and pavilions for gathering. There are gorgeous water lilies and reeds and small trees! Only a few steps away from the lake, you can enter a wetland boardwalk, this closely mimics piney woods type of landscape with lots of loblolly pines, etc. informative posters surrounding the boardwalk help tell the story of the snags, and throws, that you can observe nearby. This quick detour loops right back towards the parking lot. You can really get lost here! I love how they preserved the nature of Houston in this park and made it enjoyable to walk through.
