They were both wonderful. I'm usually not too impressed with most cakes and cupcakes from any place that isn't home made and these were absolutely wonderful. The buttercream frosting was spot-on, creamy and delicious, just the right amount of sweetness. The girl even told me their frosting wasn't overly sweet and I see why she mentioned that. It was a perfect match with the rich moist chocolate cake. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that the case that used to have cinnamon rolls was missing. I mentioned it to the girl because I remembered how good their cinnamon rolls were. She said they didn't sell cinnamon rolls anymore which was disappointing. She mentioned a new owner took over last October. Whoever she is she's doing it right, cinnamon rolls are not. I can get those at Kind House Bakery or Girasol Bakery. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and the girl answered my questions cheerfully. She forgot to mention their cupcakes were so delicious I can't wait to go back and get another. I had occasion to stop in here after I went to the phone repair store next door. I had seen this…read morestore when I was in this Shopping Center in the past but just never took the time to stop in. It's not a large store but they have quite a variety and it was enjoyable to walk up and down the aisles and just look at what they have, uniquely different from what you find in American grocery stores. They had some interesting looking honey but I wasn't out of honey yet so I decided to to hold on that. They had some Cadbury drinking chocolate with much more pure ingredients than anything you'd find in a regular grocery store. In fact, the ingredients are simply sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and flavoring. It even meets the Fair Trade standards. I'm anxious to try it. American-made hot chocolate mixes have so many chemicals in them. I remember once my daughter brought back some hot chocolate packets from her trip to France and gave them to me and it was just about the best powdered hot chocolate I'd ever tasted. When I looked at the ingredients they were basically cocoa powder and sugar, maybe a pinch of salt too, I'm not sure. As I was checking out I decided to try their baklava looking dessert. I also saw a yogurt drink in their refrigerator that I've in San Diego but never thought I would find in Amarillo so I grabbed one of those also. The baklava was absolutely wonderful. The only problem was the guy put the two pieces in a small paper bag and since they were made with sugar syrup and butter or possibly olive oil then they soaked through the bag in no time, leaked into the plastic bag with my other groceries and made quite a mess that I had to wipe up before I could put them away. They need to either get some styrofoam containers, even though I'm anti styrofoam, or use Ziploc bags that can contain the liquids. I would definitely get them again because they were so delicious. A lady was working when I first got there and she told me how good their brand of instant coffee was. I was interested but by the time I checked out she had left and a man was there and I wasn't sure if he would be able to advise me which of the three varieties available was the one she thought was so good. I had just bought some instant coffee that a friend recommended so I don't need any right away but it isn't very often someone will tell you how good a certain brand of instant coffee is so I was willing to try it even though it was $6.99 for a jar. It was a pretty good-sized Jar though. If you figured half of that was $3.50 that would fit in with what the grocery stores sell small jars of coffee for. I plan to go back for more of those baklava, although I don't know if that's what they call them, and maybe some of that instant coffee.

Wouldn't you know the first thing I saw when I came in was a baker's rack of ready-to-go pies, and they had one blackberry pie left! Snatched it like I was the first customer at a Black Friday sale. Understand, where I'm from, a lot of restaurants have pie by the slice, so I was taking a big leap of faith on a pie I may not like. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed!! The crust was solid, slightly buttery and smooth without the soggy bottom you usually get from fruit fillings. Disclaimer: if you get blackberry pie, you also get blackberry seeds in the filling. And I didn't mind! The filling was enough to balance out the crust, creamy--not watery--and tart like it should be (so many bakeries add tons of sugar to get rid of the natural tartness). AND it held up over the course of a few days rather than begin the slow crumbling and mushiness like a lot of fruit filling pies. I enjoyed it so much I bought another one the morning I left to come back home, I don't know much about the rest of the baked goods there (my 4 stars instead of 5) but I wouldn't hesitate to go back and get another ready-to-go pie of any kind if they're as tasty and well made as my blackberry goodness. I bought a small cake for my child's birthday , and after cutting the cake, at first bite the cake was dry. I've bought a cake with this business before and it was delicious, which is why it was not a questionable choice to choose this bakery again. The baker did claim it was baked on same day of pick up, but it does not taste as if it were. I did call to report the disappointment in the product and the manager was not disrespectful but well mannered. Just hoped it would have been a better experience.
