the store has a lovely variety of items and the staff are helpful and friendly. i am uncomfortable…read moreseeing so much focus on harry potter, considering how the author is hateful and donates profits from the series to promote a bigoted worldview. even secondhand, i'd say it promotes her legacy and personally i feel unwelcome as a trans person when stores heavily promote merchandise tied to such a bigoted author who is actively working to make my life worse. i also suspect that some art pieces in the store are ai generated; that bothers me bc of ethical concerns like the environmental toll and how it scrapes from artists without their permission. i'd rather support actual artists. i do like this store overall, i just wish they'd reconsider featuring franchises from authors who are against human rights and have more products from real people. i don't think there's bad intentions and i hope this doesn't come across too harshly, this is just me hoping that a store i enjoy will become even more enjoyable.

I stopped in today to check out pricing for a bridal bouquet. The lady at the desk said she's not…read moredoing weddings because she's booked solid in July. Too clarify, in case it mattered, I said that I needed just one bouquet. I am not a florist, so at this point, I'm guessing that one bouquet might not be comparable to handling a whole wedding. She restated she's not doing weddings because she did have the bandwidth. I said ok and headed for the door. No biggy. Then she said to other ladies, "Did you hear her?! I said no and she kept asking." Are you kidding how rude and unprofessional?! You should never mock potential customers! In fact, I would've approached that encounter like, "So sorry I'm totally booked. Congratulations on your special day! I see you brought your holder with you. What are your colors or what flowers do you like? You could try making it yourself. You'd need to soak the foam overnight and space the flowers out like so, and include greenery too,"or something to this degree. Any type of way would've been better than choosing to be unkind. Be wary of this place Valpo.

I visited many Hallmark stores and usually enjoy every one. I visited the location at 310 Porters Vale Blvd in Valparaiso Indiana just a few days ago and everyone was very friendly. The assistant manager helped me with my ornaments, and we were talking about family. It was a nice visit. She even said she had remembered me from the year before. I told her I would be back for the 75% off sale and she welcomed me to come back. I went back in yesterday when the ornaments went on sale and was buying a lot of items. My family, sisters, and daughter-in-law all share these ornaments. They get passed around and we split the cost and each pick what we want. We do it every year and have such a fun time. These also make wonderful gifts! As I was adding my items to my cart a store employee was pulling an online order. She asked me several times if I had the items she was looking for. She said I'm trying to pull online orders as if I was doing something wrong. She asked me once again I had one specific ornament that she was looking for. I replied that I did. She said how many. I said I'm not sure as you have them held behind the counter for me, but I believe it was only one. She said I need it for my online order. I just looked at her and didn't respond. I was honestly over it at this point and just wanted to leave. I felt unwanted and I also feel that if I have that ornament in my cart and it is not on the shelf you should not be asking me about it. The person who checked me out was a different person and wonderful which is typical of Hallmark. I don't know what the problem was today with this Hallmark employee, but I don't think I'll be headed back to this location.
