This rusted fire escape is suspended between two buildings in Midtown Oklahoma City. It was salvaged from a nearby hotel and is named after the double helix of DNA that it sort of resembles. The fire escape, which originally stretched from the third floor into the basement of the hotel, was removed via crane during the renovations. After one of the building's owners saw it suspended in midair during the moving process, it was decided to preserve the spiraling structure and give it a new home in the sky above a nearby courtyard. The Uptown neighbourhood is really great and rivals Plaza in some ways (not others) as the coolest neighbourhood in town. Chinatown is technically separate from Uptown, but they're neighbours, so it works out. The Chinatown here is really growing and is surprisingly awesome. Try Quoc Bao for Banh Mi sandwiches, and the smoothies (Honeydew, Berry, Taro Coconut, Mocha) at Bambu. Now if you'll excuse me I have to hang out with Alexa Rae Joel.
