The nignt before I got a text message stating my appointment was cancelled and rescheduled to today, july 13th. I did my paperwork prior to arrival as well as brought my imaging disk from my MRI with me as well as my 11 year old daughter .... we are sitting in the reception area for no longer then 3 minutes when i hear one of the 3 ladies behind the desk casually say 'retard' in her conversation with the other employees. Uhh what? 2 seconds later she says 'shit' so i stand up look at them and say uhh hello? Language as i point to my daughter. The one speaking doesnt look at me, her coworker begins to 'whisper' and tells her to 'shut up, that lady is mad, she heard you theres a kid here' Woman with the professionalism of a potato makes eye contact with me, laughs it off and they continue to whisper. I get into the waiting room and there is a bunch of confusion surrounding my MRI results. 25 minutes later one of the women comes in tell me because they would have to get medical consent from my attorney to get my records released to them the doctor said to cancel my visit and i would have to come back another day. This was my 3rd attempt at actually being able to have my appointment, i completed everything they asked me to do in preparation for my appointment but on thier end they waited until im sitting in the office to figure out what they needed on thier end. And because they would need to reach out to my attorney they couldnt be bothered. Absolutely unprofessional from start to finish. The doctor couldnt be bothered to come in to the room himself to speak to me directly after a mistake on thier end and absolutely wasting my time. If i could give less stars i would. Especially back then everybody said "oh no, don't get back surgery, you get the surgery, you're done.My uncle . . . my friend . . . scary" Finally it was pressing on the sciatic nerve so badly I couldn't walk. I thought my life was over. Since I was "done" anyway, I had the surgery. That was in 1989 I think. After recuperating and getting my muscles in shape I've been completely pain free. I was able to coach my kids baseball and soccer teams, be a soccer referee, running up and down the soccer field with a bunch of 16 year old "cheaters" was unthinkable before I met Dr. Harf. The guy knows his craft. Don't worry about the people here that don't get him. After getting to know him as his patient all these years, and having broken my body several times and having him fix me up every time, I love the guy. He's is a very decent human being and a fine Doctor, he's from New York and I know some Californians don't get New Yorkers, so that . . .. As another poster observed, you want "warm and fuzzy" get a dog, you need a good orthopedic Doctor? Don't be a pain in the a**, let Dr. Harf help you.

He walked out of my mom's surgery follow up appointment to take a phone call after pulling off her bandage in a non sterile environment, causing extreme pain and getting blood all over her clothes. Then he tried to put a brace over her exposed unhealed staples that would have rubbed them until I asked for him to do something else out of concern. He came into the room completely unprepared as if he hand even read her chart, asking us when the surgery was done after he pulled off her brace violently with out explaining anything he was doing. When my Mom said she was in pain he essentially said "well Of course your arm is broken" As I mentioned as we were asking questions about care and follow up he answered his phone and walked out and left us sitting there until one of the office aides came in and said we could go. We received no care instructions or any information other than 'come back in 2 weeks' from her. And being informed we owed them $20 for the brace. (Mind you they couldn't even run a credit card in their outdated office and demanded cash). He was also incredibly rude the day of the surgery and didn't walk us through everything and while his nurses were trying to explain he rushed them saying "can we get going and get on with this". This man needs to retire. Unfortunately this complaint will do nothing as people have been complaining about this man for years and he does not seem to have improved.

I initially decided to seek out a new physician because I was extremely frustrated with the amount of time my previous doctor spent with me during the appointment. If I spoke to him for more than five minutes I considered myself lucky. Add to that the frustration of multiple lengthy delays in the waiting room when I had arrived 15 minutes ahead of time as requested. The final straw was when my doctor read a lab results wrong. Fortunately, I had reviewed them myself before the visit, and was able to correct his mistake. It's scary to think of the mistakes that likely routinely happen and go unnoticed by less informed patients. Dr. De Moraes has been spectacular. He spends the time with me to talk about my holistic well-being, rather than the symptoms that brought me to the clinic that day. He is personable, thoughtful, thorough and when I leave his office, or speak to him on the phone, I don't worry that something might have been missed. On one occasion the pharmacy I go to made a mistake on a prescription late on a Friday evening. I was sure I'd have to wait until Monday, but he was available to correct the pharmacy's mistake while I waited and there was no issue. I think what I like most is that he remembers my name as patient, which is what prompted this review. I saw him in the grocery store weeks after I'd seen him and he remembered my name, and asked how I was doing. How crazy is that? My previous doctor wouldn't have known me if I was the only person in the room. Would your doctor know you? I'm extremely happy with my decision to choose Dr. De Moraes as my physician. As I mentioned, I'm a healthcare professional myself and can be very critical of the broken system we all have to endure. Dr. Moraes made has made my healthcare easy to manage and immensely less stressful. I would recommend him to all my friends and family and trust him with my well-being. Thank you Dr. De Moraes!

My mother was under the care of Dr. Alex De Moraes at The Meadows Of Napa Valley Skilled Nursing…read moreFacility while convalescing from surgery for a small bowel obstruction. While the most alarming incident -- involving verbal abuse -- occurred just before her discharge, there were other episodes of negligence during her stay there that can be attributed to Dr. De Moraes. During her stay at the facility, my mother was having very severe breathing problems related to chronic heart failure and post surgery complications. Dr. De Moraes was very resistant to input from both family and cardiologist regarding my mother's heart failure-related breathing issues that are relieved by diuresis. He was extremely upset that I was advocating for urgent attention to this matter and he complained vigorously when I consulted with my mother's cardiologist from UCSF and asked her to call him. The first time Dr. De Moraes spoke to my mother's cardiologist, he denied any signs of fluid overload in my mother and rejected the possibility that this could be causing her breathing issues. Based on my experience as her main caregiver and, seeing that her breathing continued to worsen, I contacted my mother's cardiologist once more and asked her to please call Dr. De Moraes again to try to get him to begin diuresis urgently. After speaking to the cardiologist the second time, Dr. De Moraes finally proceeded to prescribe a version of the recommended treatment. However, Dr. De Moraes refused to administer the medication in the correct dosage and manner and, had my mother complied with De Moraes' dosing, it would have been in great excess of what has been determined as the maximum dosage she can tolerate without experiencing acute kidney injury. My mother, knowing this, was able to refuse the quantities that Dr de Moraes had prescribed and instead she took the medication according to her cardiologist ongoing recommendation. Soon the diuresis began and within 24 hours, her breathing began to improve dramatically. After a few days at The Meadows Skilled Nursing, my concern was increasing about the care of my mother was receiving under Dr. De Moraes and so I began to make plans for her discharge early the following week. Beginning on Saturday afternoon, my mother began having painful spasms and cramping in her rectum and anus. After multiple telephone calls to the facility alerting them of the situation and suggesting that they evaluate her for a fecal impaction, the head of nursing examined her late Sunday afternoon and consulted with Dr. De Moraes. I assume they concluded she had hemorrhoids because De Moraes prescribed Hydrocortisone cream which was administered 16 hours later. All day Sunday, all day Monday and all morning Tuesday, my mother was experiencing waves of spasms and cramping every 15 to 20 minutes and would cry out in pain with each of these episodes. I continued to make contact Head Of Nursing by phone and was told that the doctor had decided the plan of treatment and that I should not continue to interfere. Finally, on Tuesday morning when she was about to be transferred back home, I insisted that they not release her without the doctor examining her. O was told he Had already seen her but actually that was before the fecal impaction symptoms emerged. So I insisted they allow me to speak to the doctor directly by phone. He became very upset with me, calling me the worst family member he had ever had to deal with and saying that I was creating a "barrier of care." I told him that I was acting out of love for my mother and that I was very concerned that she was suffering from a severe fecal impactation and did not think it was a good idea for them to release her from their care without addressing the acute condition and determining whether or not she was in any danger. At that time he made several threats about refusing to discharge her and cutting off our ability to communicate by FaceTime during the rest of her stay (this is all taking place during the Covid-19 crisis and visitors are not allowed into the facility). He finally agreed to examine her and within five minutes was in her room. Upon examination, my mother was found to be fecally impacted and the impaction was cleared. She was then discharged and transported home. The pain did not come back and has not come back since. Her 48 hour ordeal was now over. However during the process Dr. De Moraes proceeded to verbally abuse my mother calling her the worst patient he had ever had, a disgusting person and other such things, and saying that she "didn't deserve to be alive." My mother has been very upset in the time since she experienced this abuse. Her memory of the constant waves of excruciating pain, the negligence and the doctor's verbal abuse run through her head throughout the day causing her a great deal of PTSD-like distress. She has had several nightmares involving the doctor as well.

Because of my prior surgery with Dr. Chang, the hospital contacted him for guidance. He personally recommended Dr. Joba to perform the urgent surgery needed to clear the infection. Dr. Joba did an excellent job. He successfully removed the majority of the infection and saved my foot -- I was later told I was only days away from amputation. His skill, clear communication, and calm, professional manner gave me confidence throughout a very stressful situation. What impressed me most was learning afterward that Dr. Joba had voluntarily assisted Dr. Chang in the operating room on dozens of complex cases to further refine his skills, even though he already had his own successful practice. That level of dedication speaks volumes. I've since discovered that Dr. Chang is one of the most respected podiatric surgeons in the country. He has performed complex surgeries around the world on medical missions, served as a professor and department chair, and even authored the textbook Master Techniques in Podiatric Surgery: The Foot and Ankle, which is used by surgeons nationwide. I originally chose Dr. Chang based on his excellent patient reviews, never realizing I was in the hands of such a highly regarded leader in the field. His recommendation of Dr. Joba reinforced that I received truly exceptional care. That Dr Joba used his own time to work under one of the best podiatric surgeons on the planet shows that he wanted to improve his own skills though he had already left school and had his own practice.
