The hot and sour soup was the best I've had in the area, but it still was more sweet than hot. The fried noodles for the soup were delicious. The place was exceptionally clean and the waitress was excellent considering she was taking care of the entire dinning room(16tables). We were greeted warmly when we arrived and were seated quickly. The place was quiet, despite being over half full. The amount of sushi you get for the price is phenomenal and the taste is superb. If you are in the area and want sushi I would highly recommend. (From November 2020) There aren't many eating options in this area of VA. So what you get may be overhyped and underwhelming. Fortunately this place wasn't like that. The sushi is very impressive here. The Red Dragon Roll is one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. The tuna on top with the tempura and avocado inside had layers of textures that were a pleasure to eat. Tastes wonderful of course. Also got the shrimp lo mein since I needed some form of asian carbs. It's nothing to write home about but at least it wasn't terrible. If you like sushi, you need to come here. The first and second time we ordered, food was very good. The third time was a disappointment. My husband ordered fillet shrimp and beef mignon with fried rice. The beef has an after taste. Maybe old? The rice was mushy. Rice is a staple in Asian cuisines. We expect perfection. The price is not cheap so the customers deserve better. We'll give it another chance though. read more

I was surprised to find a sushi bar at Smith Mountain Lake, and I must say I was quite impressed by the quality of their sushi. My parents, who don't eat sushi, had chicken and broccoli and Kung pow shrimp and they both said it was some of the most interesting and delicious versions of those two dishes that they've ever had. The atmosphere was very nice, The only issue at all is that they were short-handed the night we were in so service wasn't quite as good as it might've been had they been fully staffed. Luckily, I was on vacation and recently retired so it really didn't bother me much at all LOL if you're at Smith Mountain Lake and you like sushi I highly recommend you go to Edo, you won't be disappointed. We returned to Edo this past Monday for dinner and it was just as good as it was the first time! Enjoy talking to the owner, Jenny. They really work hard at Edo and it pays off. We went for a Valentine's Day date night. Started with a soup and salad. We both enjoyed the salad but didn't care for the soup. Next, we had the Red Dragon Roll with an order of gyoza (6). Sushi was delicious, definitely recommend Red Dragon. The gyoza was very doughy, and didn't really have a lot of filling. For our entrees we go the steak and chicken and chicken and shrimp dinners. They even gave us our own personal bottle of yum yum sauce which was a huge bonus. We both really enjoyed our food! read more

Given the fact that there aren't a ton of convenient options depending on where you are around the lake, I was very hopeful after reading the reviews. I ordered three basic rolls (spicy tuna, salmon, and spicy shrimp), miso soup, and gyoza. I'm sad to report that the reviews may have overhyped my expectations because the sushi was average, the soup was watered down, and the gyoza had way too much dough. I called ahead to pick up my order. The staff was very nice and it certainly made the experience pleasant. Next time I'm in the area I might give it another try or just check out another restaurant. read more

This our second time at Edo and it is a true gem! The food is delicious, my kids had the tempura shrimp and teppanyaki chicken and they ate every bite. My husband and I had sushi, the Crazy Rock and Roll was outstanding. Our waitress was one of the owners, she was very sweet and took the time to show my son how to use chopsticks. We celebrated my birthday at Edo Grill & Sushi. It was wonderful. Our lunch started with the most delicious spring rolls with hot tea. Then I had my favorite, Lo Mein Shrimp with fried rice. My wife and I went for lunch here a year ago. We were hoping we had found a "go to" sushi place in the SML area. The atmosphere was good, but very open, so you could hear everyone in the whole area. The service was good, but there were only about 5 tables with patrons. We ordered a large mixed platter to share. The sushi was dry and definitely premade a few days earlier. The rice was hard and obviously also not fresh. We were extremely disappointed in the food and have not been back since. Kroger in Westlake has much better sushi. read more

Another great spot that allowed is to stop while we were traveling with the camper. We were looking for something decent since leaving Vinton. Nothing fit the bill until we got here. Luckily we are between lunch and dinner so there was room to park the camper. They had outdoor seating that was shaded so that was a bonus. Prices were very reasonable. I got the combo hibachi that came with soup and salad. Generous portion size. Our server was very friendly, but not to keen on dogs so she kept her distance. My family ate lunch here during a summer weekday. The staff were very accommodating to our large group. The sweet and soup and miso soups were very good, but the house salad was just "meh" (iceberg, a few shaved carrots, a lot of creamy dressing). The edamame, seaweed salad, and fried veggie egg rolls all passed muster. The sushi was decent (California and Philadelphia rolls) but not life changing. The teppanyaki dishes were all delicious (no leftovers!), and the sesame chicken was a large (and sweet) portion. We were pleasantly surprised to find a sushi restaurant in Moneta since the food options are somewhat limited compared to where we are from in Michigan. We loved the appetizer we got, although I can't remember what it was called now. It was cucumbers and crab in a spicy sauce served over seaweed salad. We ended up trying a three specialty rolls which were all delicious, as well as two smaller rolls and some nigiri. I really liked that they sliced the speciality rolls thin and didn't over stuff them. Each piece was bite sized and packed with flavor! We'll probably be eating here every time we head down to VA to visit SML! read more

Our favorite this trip was the Red Dragon Roll, but all are fantastic depending on what flavor mood you're in!
