The Japanese ambiance is minimal, housed as the place is, in a former n some unidentifiable fast-food building with the usual McDonald's layout, including the blond furniture. You order at the front counter from an extensive, and in my view, pricey menu. The counter person was not particularly friendly, sort of like the counterman at a New York deli. "Whaddayawan?" and "Want anything else?". spoken as if what we ordered was nowhere near enough for two. Maybe she was just inexperienced in customer service,. because the no-nonsense Japanese lady manager/owner took the cash and put it in the cash register herself. I got the impression there was little comradeship or enjoyment among the employees. The whole "vibe" in the place was a bit depressing. No smiles anywhere. We ordered teriyaki chicken which was the least expensive dinner special. Came with soy flavored rice and some zucchini and onion stir-fry. The food was excellent, While the food was served on nice plates with an Asian design, the utensil was a simple tiny plastic picnic fork, It was not appropriate with the plate and the dinner. It was not strong enough to pierce the chicken or onion without nearly breaking. Gave me the impression the management was going to great lengths to pinch pennies. The eat-in beverage cups were Styrofoam. Might be ok with to-go orders, but not inside dining. Beverages were on a do-it-yourself basis, like at McDonald's. Parking is free and plentiful. I would like to return to try some other dishes, especially the sushi and noodles they're always a good test of a good Japanese place. I can manage the poor ambiance if the food is exceptional. My score is 4 for the food, 2 for ambiance 2 for prices and customer service PS: The lady who wiped down our rather sticky table, at our request left a little carafe on our table with no explanation- maybe water? but no glasses. The servers were fine and the restaurant seems clean. However, the food was bad. I ordered hibachi and the meat was not seasoned at all, just dropped in a teriyaki sauce. Bland, blander, and blandest.The fried rice and veggies were the only salvageable part of the meal. I also got sushi. The rice tasted days old and was also bland, even after trying to endure a lot of wasabi and ginger to give it some flavor. It was an expensive and underwhelming and disappointing meal. Love this place! Such a convenient location and the food is so tasty and great portions for the price. I always get Veggie Yakisoba and it's always delicious! The Fried Rice is also amazing, as is the Veggie Spring Rolls. We also recently tried the Crabmeat Cheese Wantons which were incredible! Protip: If you order takeout from them directly online (as opposed to on Doordash), you can get a free item (such as the spring rolls) if you spend a certain amount! I've also picked up doordash orders from here before, and I appreciate that they have a good process for confirming order pickups so customers' orders don't get stolen. read more

Osaka is a Lynchburg STAPLE, and you will not regret going! It's some of the best hibachi in town--the sauce they use has a very unique and sweet flavor that is unlike most other hibachi sauces that are overly salty. You can't go wrong getting a plate of hibachi chicken, but they also have options that include filet mignon, shrimp, or a combination of two! They also serve sushi. When I had a roll for the first time, it was HUGE, but not necessarily great. Average sushi for sure, at a reasonable price. But for whatever their sushi lacks, they make up for in the generous portions of hibachi AND in the hidden gems they have on the menu like the Japanese dumplings (some of THE best I've ever had). The place is kind of dive-y, which earns the four star review. It's a VERY casual place, and beloved by the Lynchburg community (myself a LOYAL patron), but it's not the nicest inside. However, the food and staff make the place incredibly homey and friendly, so even though it's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, you absolutely HAVE to go. The absolute worst restaurant in the Lynchburg area. The food here never fails to absolutely destroy my digestive system, and I eat Chinese/Japanese/Asian food at least twice a week. Fast service. The waitress, an older Asian lady asked me what Sriracha was, when I asked for some. She brought me out some hot sauce, not the sauce I am use too. Although, it was red and spicy. I didn't find any any of my meal particularly tasty. I found it kinda boring compared to my favorite sushi places at home. I read the reviews and was thinking amazing Sushi was to be had. I remember this building when it was Pizza Hut. Osaka's has been a great place to catch up with old friends or enjoy the solitude customary with oriental meditation practices. It's great Express Japanese style cuisine makes it a cultural beacon on Fort Avenue. The store hours have been fluctuating and I never know what day or time they're open, but when I do stop by it's one of the best meals you can find for miles. read more

Coming from the Annapolis/Baltimore/DC area, I've had a lot of good food at many great establishments. This is not one of them. Taking residence in an old pizza hut, you can't shake the weird late 80's vibe of pizza hut. I got steak noodles. The steak was very firm and dry, and the noodles were completely plain and unseasoned. I gave the yum yum sauce a try. I don't know what the heck that stuff is, but I do not understand the hype. I later felt very awful and lethargic. Weighing in my overall experience, I cannot give higher than 1 star. read more

Good, cheap hibachi! This place is a Lynchburg staple. Two can eat here for under $15 and enjoy good quality hibachi. The atmosphere is nothing to brag about, and maybe even a little sketchy if you have never been here before... but trust me, the food is good. You'll have to wait in line at lunch or dinner to place your order. It gets packed in here on Sundays after church as well. Teriyaki chicken seems to be far saltier than its competitors (Oishii, Tokyo, Yamazato, Fuji) and thus I can't ever finish the meal. Half-way through the taste starts to change from the salt overload. The yum-yum sauce is also disappointing. Something about it just seems off.
