Our son who was dx with autism at 3 yrs old went to public school K-5. While his teachers were very kind and attentive, after 6 yrs. of "school" he came out unable to read, write or do basic math. In fact, he had actually regressed from when he started. I don't blame the teachers, but rather how the district takes the $$$ for a child and rather than try to help the child learn, he is "babysat" and passed along grade to grade without the time and effort being put in to assist him in a way he can really learn. Due to Covid schools shut down, so we began homeschooling. There was no way he could benefit from "virtual" learning & due to sensory issues wearing a face mask all day wasn't an option. It was then we realized he'd learned nothing in school. We blamed ourselves for not being more aware, and yet we depended on the educational system we paid (high) taxes for to do it's job. It failed our son. We had no idea where to start with him or where he was academically. We floundered around for a year before finding Educational Resources. The owner Judy explained to us that he needed to be fully assessed to find out where he was in his ability to learn. We were walked through how he would begin to learn "language" so he could sound out letters and eventually spell and learn to speak more clearly and with confidence. It's a slow, steady process, but E.R.A. has helped us to understand where to start with our son so we can homeschool him effectively. He attends as much as we can afford (2x weekly for tutoring) and soon he will attend another day. Even though he is now a teenager, we still have every hope for his independent future. Educational Resources gave us a jumping off place to help our son and we are very grateful. Some may not care for Judy's no nonsense demeanor (as mentioned in other reviews), but we appreciate her candor and honest opinions. She has years of education and experience working with children of all ages---many with disabilities. She was a long time public school educator so she understands the system, how it works and doesn't work so well sometimes. She's willing to work with the schools to help all children who are struggling in subjects or areas by offering them the one on one help they need through her quality programs taught by top notch staff. This isn't an instant fix for every child. It is expensive (quality staff is paid well for good reason). Each child progresses at their own pace and we certainly don't expect our child to catch up to his age appropriate grade level after six years in a few months. But, we highly recommend Educational Resources because we feel it is and will continue to help our son live his best life. read more

We've been coming here for years with our kids. Judy and her colleagues provide comprehensive assessments to identify deficiencies and develop sensible remediation strategies. I wanted to love this place. My 7 year old struggles with reading and speech. I'd heard the owner interviewed on WHO radio & decided to enroll my daughter. The cost is $55 per hour. We sent her there six hours a week for seven weeks. We saw some improvement but IMO, not a lot. At the seven week mark, I spoke to the owner about some concerns I had and she proceeded to tell me how wrong I was and talked over me throughout the conversation. The school might work for others but it wasn't a good fit for us and I can't imagine that the owners attitude works well for anyone. Based upon this, I would not recommend this school. read more

I also wanted this to work - desperately. I've tried many things with my 13 year old son to help him. My son attended Educational Resources for 3 1/2 months. In his time there, he was assigned 4 different instructors and had additional subs along the way. In my initial meeting with the coordinator, Judy Hintz, she stressed the importance of him having the same instructor throughout his session. I voiced my concern several times regarding all of the different instructors that he had. Judy assured me that he was getting the correct instruction and that it was out of the ordinary that he would have so many different teachers. I understand the above review when she said that Judy talked over you. (At first she disagreed with how many subs he had, but I had kept track.). After 54 hours ($3,240), we saw no changes for my son. Finally, after tonight, when my son went, and his 4th instructor was not there and he actually had TWO different instructors (1, the first hour, and another one, the 2nd hour), I have had enough. $60/hour is a LOT of money to me. I feel for an business that specializes in education, it is extremely disorganized. Ultimately, I am disappointed and sad, as I really thought this would help my son. I did receive many apologies from the many of the staff, but that really doesn't help my son. Based upon this, I would not recommend this business. read more

Judy has been saving kids from the ravages of government school blunders for decades, teaching children that were traumatized by poor methods and told they couldn't learn. Sadly, most cases it is a teaching deficit and the kid is fine. The latest scam in education is false dyslexia diagnosis and with programs popping up all over. The symptoms of dyslexia are cured by systemic phonics, if taught correctly the first time, there would be no need for scams from people that should know better. Judy fixes kids! read more

After watching my 10 year old struggle with reading at school something had to be done. I had heard Judy Hintz interview on WHO radio several times and when she advertized a free 4 hour comprehensive evaluation I decided it was worth a try. Biggest mistake ever! Not until after this "free" evaluation was completed did the Judy tell us to pay up $250 for the evaluation or $3240 for tutoring upfront. Not only did she not honor her advertisement but she was so rude and condescending she tried to tell me that I was a bad parent for waiting to get my child help until the age of 10. I should have stopped right then, but she made me feel so bad about how behind my child was that I felt like I had no choice but to enroll. One of the issues- I was paying $60 per hour of tutoring. My child spent over half of that time listening to a tape. You'd think for $60/hour they would include a tape to go home! The other half of the time my child had to battle over time with the tutor because there were 2 other kids there at the same time with the same tutor. So much for 1 on 1 tutoring. Judy even told me herself that it against policy to have more then 1 student at a time per tutor. But it sure didn't see to matter. We did 4 hours per week for 9 weeks and saw no change. Another issue- Judy told me when I signed up my child that after 9 weeks they would re-test to see what progress had been made. Another, "free test". Yeah right! They said this is free but they charge you $60 per hour and do it when you bring your child in for what you think is a tutoring session. Judy's excuse for this... "It's just one or two quick tests. It takes no time at all and that's why we don't separate it from tutoring time." Well I timed it, It took 115 minutes all together which they charged me $120 for. Another issue- This place is so unprofessional and disorganized. During our 9 weeks, I received 3 statements via email within 2 weeks. I never received another statement. I am used to getting one statement per month, and another statement the next month, ect. And when I told Judy we were going to be done after the 9 weeks amazingly extra dates of tutoring started showing up on the statements. Some for dates we were even out of state! But they refused to listen and kept insisting we were the ones mistaken. They didn't care that I had plane ticket stubs and photos from our vacation. I spoke again with Judy and other office staff working for her about issues during our 9 week enrolment. By the way no other office staff will tell you anything. They all have been trained to say," You'll have to talk to Judy about that." Problem was every time I talked to Judy her story changed and she had a different excuse as to why things were so bad. She never EVER took any responsibility for her or her staff. She was always trying to talk over my head and tell me every thing going wrong had to be my fault because she had been in business over 30 years. Warn your friends! This place sounds good on the radio, but they will try to con you out of every penny they can while doing nothing for your child! read more

After the assessment and the wonderful feedback I had from Judy, I was so very excited to get started with this program. it was awful. At least a third of the time you are paying for tutoring your child is being instructed by a tape recorder. No one really knew if he was there or not. No real instruction in how to work with your student and the homework you were assigned. As the other review in here states Judy was very aggressive and angry thoughout the interactions. The experience at Educational Resources was by far the worst experience we've ever had with a professional educator, or a professional of any industry. The fact that our concerns were met with anger, slamming of papers, yelling at co-workers plus the fact that they called our daughter a liar, accused us of being racist and blamed us for your ignorance. In fact, they never even spelled our names right.... And they were responsible for teaching? Save your money and find a place that cares for your child and helps them in the areas they need help. I totally agree. I wanted to believe that this educational system would not cure my childs learning difficulties but help to put us on a path to help facilitate how she does learn so she could accomplish her best. I was told repeatatively by the owner how great she is and how her program works. We attended the summer intensive program and religiously did her homework. we enjoyed the teacher. i then asked how things were going after 6 weeks thinking i should have a written report showing advances and was told that my child wasnt improving well in the area we sent her their for so they are starting another program that goes muh slower. SOOOO that translated into that she will need long term! the owner was very rude when i asked any questions. i am a women who has my masters degree as well and i wasnt doubting her was just wanting educational responces as to what method we we using and why and how this would benefit my child. Instead i too was talked over told that she holdsa special education liscence n the state of iowa Blah BLAH BLAH!! I was driving from 2 hours away each week and staying in hotels each week so we were motivated and followed threw with the homework . to be honest i could have just printed off the same type worksheets off my computor and gave my child the homework daily and been about the same in improvment.
