What I remember most about him is he always asking for my tv remote :0) to turn down the volume b/c I was using tv as a distraction of being very scared in the ICU. I apologize for having the volume up when you guys came in for your morning consults. Thank you for the great care and kindness you gave me Dr. Frederick I have never forgotten about that even though it was last year.

Dr Frederick and his staff are some of the finest medical professionals I've met, let alone been a patient of. I've been seeing him for over a year now for my autoimmune liver disease and he has been the most reassuring, encouraging, helpful Physician I've seen during this process. His staff are professional and meticulous. If you're a bit scatterbrained like myself, they'll send you helpful reminders and phone calls regarding your upcoming appointment. If your refills run low, it's a quick phone call and an almost instant refill. Most importantly, Dr Frederick takes to heart your unique case. He's unafraid of reaching out to colleagues for input and will utilize all possible avenues to achieve an understanding of what's ailing you and what's most likely to help. I am a very appreciative patient of Dr Frederick's. I know his job must be extremely taxing and stressful, but he makes the effort to appear calm and reassuring in all of his encounters. It's the part of being a physician that can't be taught in a classroom. Even when news of my condition isn't the most positive, he does his best to infuse hope into his explanations. I only wish I could do more to express my gratitude.

This is my second review for Dr. Merriman, and somehow five stars still don't feel like enough…read more I don't think I've ever had a physician who has cared this much about not only treating my disease, but helping me become healthier as a whole person. We don't end up seeing a hepatologist because we're the picture of perfect health, and when I first came under Dr. Merriman's care, I certainly wasn't. But the direction of my health and my life has changed dramatically since then. Dr. Merriman didn't simply manage my liver disease. He looked at the bigger picture. He introduced me to GLP-1 therapy when obesity had been something I had struggled with for most of my life, and that became an important part of a journey that ultimately helped me lose around 200 pounds. Along the way, he has celebrated my victories with me, encouraged my recovery, and genuinely been one of my biggest cheerleaders. Most recently, he went even further. After such significant weight loss, I was left with a substantial amount of excess skin and wanted reconstructive surgery, but my liver disease and other medical complexities made finding an appropriate surgeon extremely difficult. Dr. Merriman advocated for me and helped connect me with a highly skilled surgeon willing and qualified to take on a complicated case like mine. For someone who spent much of his life struggling with obesity and never quite feeling comfortable in his own body, it's difficult to put into words what that opportunity means to me. What's remarkable is that Dr. Merriman has managed much of my care remotely from San Francisco, yet I have rarely felt more cared for by a physician. There are doctors who treat a diagnosis, and then there are doctors who change the trajectory of someone's health. Dr. Merriman has done the latter for me. My liver health, my weight, my recovery, and my overall quality of life are in a profoundly different place today, and his care and advocacy have played an enormous role in getting me here. I genuinely don't know where my health would be today if Dr. Merriman hadn't become part of my care team. I will always be grateful for a physician who saw what was possible for me, championed it, and celebrated with me as it became reality.

Sutter Health is a pillar of our community, Dr. Merriman is consistently delivering world-class care to me personally and I am humbled and blessed to be a Sutter patient. Thank you! Keeping it light, I like to think of Dr. Merriman as SF's local version of John Oliver except of the liver. Said with laughter, love and the highest respect.

I didn't have any hope I was going to be listed for a liver transplant since I was turned down the first time due to my lack of social support. I remember speaking with him many times but sadly I can't remember most of our conversations because I was so sick. My heart remembers the kindness and care he showed me. FIRST THINGS FIRST... She's the ONLY female kidney surgeon at UCSF, can we give credit when due…read more Amazing! I met Dr Bellingham yesterday at my kidney transplant re-evaluation appointment. I arrived at 1245. I had a series of people I was meeting, 1pm kidney doctor, 145pm social worker, then 3pm Dr Bellingham. When I arrived at 1pm, Jen the RN let me know she was so sorry that the Surgeon got called in to do a transplant. That there might be a wait and she won't be here by 3pm and since we came all the way from Stockton.. I figured we wait. It was kinda surreal and cool to think she's doing a transplant as I meet the rest of the team and wait for her. I met Dr Katznelson in person finally, social worker, got labs done. It was already 315 and Jen said we could walk across the street to Sutter hospital cafeteria or somewhere nearby and get a quick bite.. especially since I had my daughter with me. She was getting hungry. So we decided to walk across the street to a "Mel's Kitchen" which I do not recommend. Service from the owner of manager lady.. super rude. Not worth spending my money! Back to Dr Bellingham! She was just amazing. She arrived, apologized for late arrival.. she didn't get to us til 445pm which was totally okay. I mean she was giving another human another chance at life. I can't complain! Just to hear her talk and see her hands and know one day possibly she'll be the one to put a kidney inside of me was inspiring and overwhelming. She gave me a lot of info and answered all my questions. Overall great visit and doctor! I highly recommend her.
