It's really important that doctors listen and be humble, otherwise they might make mistakes. This was NOT my experience with Dr. Goldberg. Dr. Goldberg did not have a good bedside manner. He was arrogant, he was not a good listener and, in my experience, he did not have empathy. After thinking about my experience with Dr. Goldberg and doing more research, I felt like I should write this review. According to the New York Post, Dr. Goldberg was sued because the infamous anesthesiologist Dr. Brian Goldweber AKA "Dr. Disease" administered anesthesia during procedures in Dr. Goldberg's office! https://nypost.com/2007/06/17/doctor-disease/ According to this court summary "Dr. Goldberg did not independently investigate Dr. Goldweber's qualifications and, instead, relied on Dr. Carni to do so." https://law.justia.com/cases/new-york/other-courts/2012/2012-ny-slip-op-50214-u.html Eventually the case was dismissed because it turned out that the patient did not get sick because of "Dr. Disease." BUT IT BLOWS MY MIND THAT DR. GOLDBERG RELIED ON A THIRD PARTY TO VET HIS ANESTHESIOLOGIST! That's really scary. Imagine if you're having a procedure under anesthesia in an office and something goes wrong. You're not in a hospital setting. Can you imagine if your doctor, who you trusted, did not independently vet the anesthesiologist?!?! There is also an article about Dr. Goldberg in the New York Times that sheds light on my experience. https://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/08/nyregion/enhanced-medical-care-for-an-annual-fee.html According to the article, Dr. Goldberg also runs a "concierge" medical practice in addition to the private practice where I saw him. He once accompanied a patient to an MRI and "held her toe" to comfort her. Give me a break! In my opinion, VIP medicine is not good medicine (Prince, Michael Jackson), and I don't trust doctors who model their practice on VIP medicine. The office was in a convenient location and the receptionist was nice and professional. The waiting room was nicely decorated and people were friendly. I spoke to another patient who was good friends with Dr. Goldberg. I was taken aback by the conversation. Maybe you're thinking "who becomes good friends with their gastro"? Well, it turns out that the patient was friends with Dr. Goldberg first and apparently Dr. Goldberg doesn't have a problem treating his friends. It made me uncomfortable and it felt like Dr. Goldberg doesn't have professional boundaries. Most medical ethicists would agree that doctors shouldn't be treating their friends. But if this is common practice for Dr. Goldberg, it would explain why he has so many good reviews: are his friends writing reviews for him? Because the reviews just don't match up with my experience. Dr. Goldberg does not take insurance. If you're lucky enough to have a PPO and you only care about location, then Dr. Goldberg may be right for you. If you are looking for a patient centric doctor then I would look somewhere else. If you're looking for an "important" doctor, I think there are a lot doctors in the city who have degrees from higher ranked schools than the school that Dr. Goldberg attended or who have impressive positions at hospitals. The best hospitals in the city also offer concierge services for patients who can afford it. So whether you're looking for VIP treatment or whether you are like me and you're just looking for a trustworthy and professional doctor, I think there are much better options out there. No matter what, DO YOUR RESEARCH. I did not know about Dr. Goldberg's association with "Dr. Disease" prior to my visit to his office. If I had, I never would have trusted him. read more

Dr. Goldberg is my first choice as a physician. Even though I live in FL, I see him regularly. My reasons are because of his delivery of care, knowledge of medicine and his pleasant personality. Dr. Goldberg is an exceptional physician and would highly recommend him to you. My family is full of physicians and nurses, they all agree with my opinion of Dr. Goldberg. The office staff are very approachable and competent. This front and back office runs very smoothly and has fun doing it. This is a great place for medical care! read more

Dr. Goldberg is a gastrointerologist and internist. Having been in the health profession for 18 years, I have a different perspective on rating medical professionals. I ask alot of questions and observe. It takes a long time to determine the proficiency and integrity of a physician. Unless you know them personally, work with them or know another medical professional who does.... it's difficult. First and foremost for me are their practical skills. Are they a good practitioner? If I go in for a procedure, I want the best Dr. around and as far as I'm concerned they can have the personality of a rock. Second, and just as important these days, how good are their office sterilization and cross-contamination procedures? You may say that all this is created equal, but trust me, it is not! Third, their ability to listen, to communicate and educate the patient. Fourth, how good is their record keeping? If they don't know what med they gave you or procedure they did last time, you better run out of that office! They should thoroughly review your medical history. Fifth, the tone and function of their front office personnel. Sixth, tone and function of their back office personnel. My view so far on Dr. Goldberg is that he is a very good practitioner, he sits down and listens and communicates and educates. I hope that his office sterilization procedures are good. I've watched his back office with eagle eyes when I go in. I've not had experience with his record keeping quality yet. Front office tone is pleasant enough, but they won't go out of their way to help you out. Back office is pleasant and very busy as well. Without going in to detail, I think rent is high here in NYC and Dr. Goldberg makes his money on doing procedures. He pushes doing the procedures. Sometimes I'm sure it is required, other times I think it might be overkill. These days however, I understand his being overly cautious, so I don't fault him for that. read more

Dr Goldberg is the best doctor I have ever had! He is kind and approachable. He answers questions and takes time to consult with you. His office staff is extraordinary! The most pleasant office in NYC!! If you need a good general practitioner or gastro specialist, see Goldberg; you won't be disappointed. office is clean & convenient to transportation. The only fault may be in having to wait for an appointment; but he is more than worth the wait. I'd sooner wait for a superior doctor than see someone substandard quickly. Dont even consider another doc; he is knowledgeable and friendly and too helpful. I hope he never quits his practice!!! read more

Dr. G is a very compassionate and caring doctor who I've know for many years. I've seen what the "system" has done to health care and I'm very impressed with his integrity. He is very knowledgeable and smart. He's also humble and willing to say when he's not sure what is going on. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a doctor from the "old days." Dr. Goldberg recently dropped out of insurance to become a Country Doctor in NYC (according to the letter he carefully sent out) and I've been to see him since this transition. Hat's off to someone giving a darn and not letting his medical approach be dictated by a system that is only out to save money at the risk of disease. read more

Dr. Goldberg is an amazing physician. Both he and his staff are warm and friendly. The office is never crowded and you are treated as if you are the only patient there. The office is comfortable and clean. Dr. Goldberg's bedside manner is exemplary. He has a knack for explaining complex medical issues in a lay person's language. His staff is very efficient and quickly arranged for the needed tests by setting up the appointments for me. All of the details I normally would have to chase another medical practice for were all taken care of for me. The whole experience was truly a catered one. I've been seeing Dr. Ed Goldberg as my primary care physician for about 15 years now. He is thorough, perceptive, and pro-active in his recommendations. I appreciate that he takes time to listen and observe me when I'm in for my quarterly check-ups. His method is not to push "remedies" or "medicine" but to treat the entire person. This means he offers suggestions about diet and lifestyle, without being oppressive about it (he routinely tells me I need to lose weight, but always manages to do it in a novel way, and never ever scolds). He's given me great travel tips (for example, on how to avoid digestive issues while traveling in third-world areas). His staff are pleasant, and have gone out of their way to help straighten out insurance and prescription-related issues for me. I've never had to wait for a scheduled appointment; his office is excellent at scheduling appropriately. I particularly appreciate this - I'm a busy person (as we all are) and hate sitting at a professional's office, watching the minutes ticking by while I'm forced to wait and wait and wait. Finally, Dr. Goldberg is articulate and cheery -- and he has a droll sense of humor. Nothing like a little laughter while you're saying "ah" or having your knee tapped with a rubber mallet!
