I have been burned by too many of my own people in different lines of work. I told myself I will never let another gay Black man do my taxes -- I had two that screwed me over. I will also never hire another Black female attorney after wasting more than $2K for them to represent me. This is the second time, and I'm over it. I should have hired Sheneneh Jenkins' lawyer (Ronnie Cochran) instead. Anyway, I'm done supporting Black businesses. They don't appreciate you or your support. I had high hopes when I came across this law firm, thinking they were good people who were willing to work for us and not just for a money grab. If criminal defense is not your strong suit, don't take the case. If you're the face of the firm and you only work with "high-profile" cases, then don't pass me over to one of your staff members that I know nothing about -- or how well they perform in certain areas of their legal field. If you don't have your staff (other attorneys) listed on your website, that's a red flag. I was definitely blindsided when I thought I would be working with the attorney whose face is all over the website advertising his credentials but not mentioning or showing the other attorneys at the firm. This attorney conveniently left out the fact that he ONLY works with celebrities. That's false advertising. The attorney who is the face of the firm assigned me to an unknown with little to no experience in criminal defense or time management. It took almost a year to finally have my hearing, and I still ended up with a not-so-great outcome. What a waste of $5,000. I highly suggest you read the reviews and do your research. Make sure you check the website of the attorney's firm. If they don't show their staff, that's your cue to run.

I was adamant to my mother to retain a black attorney and unfortunately the one we came up with 'good reviews' was Robert James Trial Attorneys. The initial meeting with Mel whom I was assigned to went left as he was unaware of what my case was about and why he had been assigned the case. I was immediately taken aback because we had paid $3000 to retain this attorney. Mel then told me that I would be able to get a refund on my $3000 after meeting me at Fulton County Jail. However, after calling the office a repeated amount of times to get clarity on the refund process. My Mother and I were told we were not eligible to receive a refund, even though no services had been rendered. They also refused from that point on to even speak with me (their client) from whom the money had come from. I immediately contacted my bank and they refunded me the funds after a thorough investigation. After the office was made aware of my refund they contacted me to be sure we no longer wanted to retain them. The audacity! BUYER BEWARE! I would not hire this attorney for my worst enemy. The way they treated me was reprehensible. I won't even go into the details of the language used by the assistant, Brandon nor Mel during our phone calls once they realized they weren't dealing with some ignorant N-word with no education or wealth of knowledge of the law. It's been months since this ordeal and I retained a highly qualified attorney who has been on my case since they dropped the ball. It doesn't bring me joy to write this review months later, but I would do a disservice to anyone who may be incarcerated or thinking of retaining them for a loved one and they are strapped on cash. All I heard for two years from this group of lawyers was "not yet, still waiting", etc. After the date that the statue of limitations for the case had passed, I called Scott to verify that the state had failed to prosecute within the time frame allotted. It's a good thing I called, because apparently the case has been brought before the court and prosecution had been set in motion months prior to this and Scott and his team had no idea. After that surprise, this team of lawyers fumbled around and finally presented me with plea deal that they said was the best they could do if I wanted them to handle the case while I was in absentia. The only other option would be to fly back to Georgia from California to await trial. I reluctantly accepted the plea bargain which included Community Service, attending a class, and paying a fine. I submitted all proof of completion of my part of the bargain. Scott and his team took it to court and had it signed and sealed, and told me that the case was resolved. Fast forward to a few months after that. I get a call from Scott's office telling me they "made a mistake" when they told me the case was resolved. They messed up the paperwork and failed to include in the plea deal they presented me with that the court had requested I take another class. There was a probation officer waiting on paperwork as proof for completion of a class I was never informed I had to take, months after I was told the case was resolved and over with. I tried my best to find a class and complete it in what time remained before the probation officer put a bench warrant out for my arrest, but there simply was not enough time. If you want someone competent enough to handle your criminal case, do NOT choose Scott W Smith, "Peach State Lawyer". Not only is he kind of a dick to his clients, he is wildly irresponsible and forgetful and is just (barely, if at all) going through the motions for your money.
