Very poor excuse of a restaurant, ate here a couple times and the food was terrible, they should close down.

We ordered five dishes and all of them were burnt and over cooked, dry and tasteless. If a restaurant can't be consistent with their food that God help them.

We asked the desk clerk if there was anyplace in town to grab some dinner and we were told Tim Horton's 24-7 out on Hwy 103 was open. I like Tim Horton's, but for coffee and light fare only. We were starving after a long drive! We drove into town, pitch black outside and every place looked closed, except for a couple takeout pizza places and mini marts, and then we saw Luong's Restaurant. We decided to take our chances with Chinese food in this sleepy town. Luong's was still serving food until 10PM! The dining room looks very homey, wood walls painted red, green, and white, assorted Chinese decor, and red covered table seating, very X-mas like. The menu offers Chinese and Canadian cuisine (sandwiches & comfort foods), but we stuck to the Chinese food. I got a combo plate of chicken chow mein, sweet & sour shrimp, fried rice & and egg roll. Most of the food was decent, dishes made to order, except for the egg roll, which was the kind I'd buy at the surpermarket and filled with hot oil. Luong's Restaurant saved us from having to settle for Tim Horton's for dinner. The meal was decent, far from Vancouver quality Chinese food, but good enough for us after a long day. The service was good and the price was right, $22.30 before HST & tip for two Chinese combo dinners and two diet pops. We did go to Tim Horton's afterwards for coffee.

Our usual go-to for Chinese food is closed on Mondays so we decided to try China Village instead…read morefor take out. Finding a menu online proved to be the first challenge. After much searching we found one, but it was small and difficult to read. We noticed right away that China Village doesn't sell spring rolls, in fact there are only 3 items on the appetizer menu. We settled for egg rolls, and Bo Bo Wontons, as well as General Tao Chicken, Szechuan Beef, and Mushroom Fried Rice. We were pleased to hear it would be ready in 10-15 minutes... our usual haunt takes up to an hour! Once we got home and broke out the food it quickly became obvious why the wait time was so short. The mushrooms in the rice appeared to be canned. The Szechuan beef reminded me both in texture and taste of the boil-in-the-bag beef dinners my mother used to buy when I was little. In its defence, there was a little bit of chili heat added, but not enough to redeem the factory-made taste of the sauce. The General Tao Chicken was more like boneless buffalo wings. The sauce was heavy with something resembling Tabasco, and I don't know how you make deep fried chicken so dry! The portion sizes and prices at China Village are decent, but I'd happily pay more for less if I could have authentic flavours and freshness. There was very little about this meal that tasted Asian. Blindfolded I'm sure I'd have guessed I was eating bad pub food. If you're looking for a cheap way to fill up quickly, China Village might be your spot. If authentic dishes, flavour, and fresh ingredients are on your radar, you should probably keep going, because you're definitely not getting any of that here.
