I've wanted to try wok box for awhile now, and I'm an incredibly disappointed in the quality of food that we ordered for the price. We walked in and wanted to try an order of spring rolls with our dish but their fryer was broken so they could not do ANY sides - which is crazy to begin with especially from other reviews talking about their debit machines etc. I ordered the butter chicken and the only good thing I have to say is that the rice was good and sticky. The butter chicken sauce had no spice to it, it was unflavourful and afterward I felt as if I was going to be sick. It tasted almost like a thin watery pasta sauce from the dollar store. It was almost a dark brown colour. The chicken was pre-cut cold chicken breast, I wouldn't be surprised if it was still frozen. It reminded me of a lean cuisine dinner - but don't get me wrong, the lean cuisine would have been more favourable than the 15$ I paid for this meal. The naan wasn't grilled, it tasted like bread. It was white and powdery.. out of all of the Indian restaurants I have ever been to, this was the worst butter chicken I have ever had across Canada. My boyfriend got the shrimp pad Thai. There was no peanuts, and way too much spruce. There was only two shrimp in the entire dish for a total of 15$. It was essential a dish of veggies. Presentation of the food and restaurant was A+.. it was clean, I'm really disappointed nothin g else was as good. For the quality and price.. go down the street and order from cha baa Thai or even Thai express in the food court for half the price. While over at the Dartmouth Crossing we stopped in for lunch. It was very busy, actually lined up. We grabbed a booth an mulled over the menu. We ordered the Pineapple Sweet and Sour Chicken, Noodles (you pick what sauce you want on them) and Spring Rolls. We liked the chicken and spring rolls, we found the noodles were bland , even with the schezwan sauce. Not spicy enough. Spring Rolls were good. The staff was great, she help us with our order. For a newbie, there was a lot to know. A lot of people ordered it to go, and sat at the tables sharing from the boxes. The boxes are like the ones from the movies, the square ones, I think it is the only place that has it. Overall is a a great place to stop in for a a bite to eat, nice inside as well. read more

Well they must be doing something right as it was packed. Service was good from a customer stand point. Wok Box was found founded in 2004 out in Edmonton and has been growing since. First time there I was there I had Black Bean Stir fry with Jasmine white rice you can actually had Udon noodles as well. The black bean stirfry was very good and a great variety of vegetables ranging from snow peas, carrots, broccoli, corn and bok choy which I really don't like. Some things on the menu are pricey but the stir fry was only $12.42 which I did enjoy. Love the boxes! read more

I spent $30 on a couple of main dishes and an egg roll, I was hungry and wanted some variety. The woman at the counter had that 'Maritime Hospitality' you sometimes get. Standing dead eyed with a hint of inconvenience about her. Buttered chicken ? Strips of meat, that looked like pre-chewed beef and tasted anything but chicken. Sauce was cold. Rice was cold. I think they figured as long as the meat was heated everything else would be fine. Pad Tai veggies with shrimp? Well if you call a handful of raw green onions diced to the size of pencil erasers stir fry, then bravo. The noodles were the most disgusting thing about the meal. Grey mass of wet overcooked shit. I did enjoy the four tiny shrimp I could dig out of the limp of brain matter of noodles. Eggroll? Burnt. Overcooked. Tasteless. A cup of sauce was provided. There was barely a coin thinness of sauce in it. No matter, the egg roll was so dry and stiff it couldn't be dipped as it wouldn't bend enough to fit into the cup. I had no expectations going in. My personal Wok Box philosophy is this: it's a fast food version of Asian cuisine. Don't come here ordering a red curry for example, and then proceed to compare it against authentic Thai food. Apples and oranges. Wok Box is lower on the scale, smack dab between Manchu Wok and Chabaa Thai. I have a bit of an addiction to the almond chicken and steamed rice combo. Sooo good. So good in fact, I rarely order anything else. It's spicy and delicious and evil. I usually pass on the egg roll. Their egg rolls remind me of Manchu Wok, and besides... my almond chicken and steamed rice are way more than enough. Service is usually good. I've only eaten in once - I almost always get takeout. My combo is supposed to be served in one large container, but I prefer to have a separate container for my rice and the staff have never taken issue with this request. Also, I'm a sucker for the Chinese takeout containers. It has always bugged me that the Chinese restaurants in HRM don't use them. This place is great - for what it is. read more

Having a small window of time in which to grab dinner before heading to an appointment we chose Wok Box as it was the fast and closest to our destination. I had been a couple times at lunch when it first opened. Parking nearby isn't always available when you come during the day but this evening it was plentiful. The gal at the cash was friendly and helpful with suggestions. I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp my dinner companion had the Kung Pao Chicken, we both upsized to a combo that included a drink and 2 small spring rolls. That came to $15.99 each. A little on the pricey side for fast food but I did have enough for lunch the next day so there was plenty. Was it authentic? Don't know, but it was hot, fresh and tasty, though not near as tasty as ChaBaa Thai, could have been a little bit spicier. Although I never seem to enjoy Wok Box quite as much as I hope I will, somehow I keep going back. As an alternative to the traditional fast food offering of burgers and fries, a stir fry place is ideal: fast, simple and filling, with a tasty mix of meat or tofu, veggies and noodles or rice. In that respect, Wok Box delivers, with a nice cross-section of Asian favourites from Chinese to Indian, and everything in between. While that's a pretty broad geographic and culinary area to cover, they do a decent job. As far as fast food options go, its one of the better ones around, and probably the best option for a fast meal to go in Dartmouth Crossing. What I don't like about the Wok Box is that some of the dishes are a bit bland, and the spicy ones aren't that spicy ... don't be afraid to add some flavour to your food, and if you advertise something as hot, then bring the heat! It is also a bit on the expensive side for what you are getting: you can easily drop $30-40 on dinner for two, which is starting to get into the realm of what I'd expect to pay for a simple sit-down meal. At the end of the day, the Wok Box is still my destination of choice when I'm at Dartmouth Crossing, or to pick up a quick bite to eat when heading out of town. One night over Christmas my fiance and I were out shopping, and needed to eat. We were in a bit of a rush, so went to wok box because we wanted healthy but quick. I had never been here before and I have to say for a fast food place I was impressed. The service was prompt, polite and even though it was busy we did not have to wait long for our meals. The flavours were good, well seasoned. The vegetables in both dishes were not over cooked, so that was a nice surprise. I must say though, the price was a bit much. Honestly this was the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time. I tried the new pork buns - AVOID they were so sour from the vinegar they used it hurt the mouth. This spot is within walking distance from my office, so I'm usually in once a month or so for some take out. While it's not the best Asian food ever, you get a good portion for your money and there is lots of variety. It's also in my opinion one the best tasting spots for fast food in the Crossing. I like that they offer 4 noodle types and rice as options, almost all the dishes can me made with shrimp, chicken, pork, beef or vegetarian. Something to please everyone. The downsides to this place is that the restaurant is often busy during peak times, and because the dishes are wok'ed to order, service can be a bit slow. I just popped into the ol' Wok Box in Dartmouth Crossing. It's another Dartmouth Crossing food stop that's been recommended to me a lot lately. Luckily, unlike some previous recommendations, this place lives up to most of the hype. I was on the tail end of the lunch crowd so there wasn't much wait. I almost wish I had more time because there are a lot of options here. In the end I went with an old faithful Teriyaki Stir fry. The food was a little expensive, but definitely very tasty! I just finished up and I really wish I had ordered a bigger box. Maybe next time I'll have a Sumo Box! The bottom line is that the food was great, there are a lot of options, and the place appears to run a at a pretty efficient pace. I wish the portions were a little bigger, but I'm a big fella, so for those of you who are of average height, you'll be fine. It's safe to say that this place will be my new go to spot for a quick lunch the next time I'm roaming around Dartmouth Crossing. Definitely check it out! read more

I think this place is alright if you know what you're getting - it's fast food quality Asian cuisine. Probably equivalent to the frozen stuff you can get at the grocery store. Plain white rice and sugary chicken with the sweet and sour chicken. Pho broth was alright. Kinda bland but at least you could taste the anise (albeit very mildly). Spring roll filling was soggy. It was a classic situation for me and Don - a Groupon for a place we'd never tried. We were quite pleased with our adventure. Pros: - Attractive decor. - Friendly employees. - Quick dine-in service - no more than 5-6 minutes until our orders were ready. - Healthy portions in big bowls, with a variety of utensils and sauces to accompany our meals. - I had the Hong Kong Spice noodle box and Don had the Canto-Buda; both were hot, fresh, and just a tad spicy. Keep in mind that I'm rather immune to spice. - They offer a Dinner and a Movie combo that we just might take advantage of in the future. Cons: - I can see how eating here can become costly - drinks and sides in particular are not cheap. I've given Wok Box a few honest chances to impress me. Every time a failure. Overcooked mushy noodles. Salty Salty Salty but in a preservativey kind of way. Not to my liking. The staff don't seem too knowledgeable anytime I've asked them about the products, which I completely blame on the company, not on them. It makes me wonder if maybe the franchise owner is lazy or uninvolved, if the manager isn't doing their job properly to train staff or if the company training documents are just crap. In any case. I'm never going again. If I want food of this quality, I'll go by the dollar store's frozen meal section and try to find an expired tv dinner. I understand that its a relatively successful chain, so maybe I would give it a shot in a different city as I suspect staff training in might be an issue affecting the food and service quality. read more

Wok Box is a franchise of an Asian takeout business that was started in Edmonton a few years ago and has since migrated to Dartmouth Crossing. The concept is "fresh Asian kitchen" and the store offers Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Thai and Cambodian food. That's a pretty broad stretch of Asia to cover in one little restaurant, but you know - it doesn't do a half-bad job, considering that it's smack in the middle of boring old Dartmouth Crossing. There's probably nothing particularly authentic about the food, but I do like that the ingredients are fresh and prepared without a lot of deep-frying. You can get your food to eat in or take out, and staff here are really friendly. Even the cooks and prep line kids seem happy, so I take that as a sign of a well-run business. Wok Box is my favourite fast food option. Whenever I have to go to Dartmouth Crossing I try to overlap with meal time so I have an excuse to get Wok Box. First of all, the takeout boxes are adorable. Secondly, what other fast food comes with a fortune cookie? That's what I thought. My favourites are the curries (Thai Red Curry and Jungle Curry) and the Singapore Cashew. They aren't overly spicy, so if you want to blow your nose excessively and cry into your food, best look elsewhere. It's also a little pricier than other fast food options but you're getting freshly prepared, relatively healthy food and generous portions. Worst thai food I have ever had! Don't be fooled by the inviting layer of fresh bean sprouts and green onions the chicken is the cardboard processed kind and the sauce doesn't taste like anything. I was in the Crossing anyway so I decided to give these guys a shot. I walk in and the first thing I noted is, while nice enough, the decor doesn't really suit the style of restaurant. I have a peek at the menu and settle on a favorite: pad thai with chicken, and opted for the combo option of two spring rolls and a beverage. The food came quickly enough. The place was empty so it didn't surprise me when it was ready quickly. Super excited I dug in. Well, as much as you can dig in with chopsticks. And this is where my joy ended. It looked like pad thai. It smelled like pad thai. But it didn't quack quite like pad thai. To me it just wasn't right. I can't pin point exactly what I didn't like. I went there a few nights ago and tried to get the same thing and was told they don't sell the lunch size after 4 so I had to order the larger size which is twice the price. Was told by a co-worker (who used to live in Vancouver) about a version of Won Ton soup that only seemed available in BC...its called Wor Won Ton soup. After some research I found that the Wok Box offered this soup. I decided to give it a try. AMAZING!!! Since I don't have a comparison for it, I can only say it was absolutely delicious. It was fresh, flavorful and well worth the price of $8.95. The portion was huge (enough for three meals for me) and filled with tender/crisp vegetables. The only recommendation I would have would be to add some mushrooms and snow peas. Definitely a fan and will be returning many more times. read more

The wok box is pre-frozen deep fried crap that's fried a second time or nuked in the microwave. It's then topped with bottled sauces loaded with sugar, cornstarch and MSG. YUCK. I enjoyed it here the first time I came, but I must of been really hungry because the second time I went I didn't enjoy it as much. I find it very over priced and the food is pretty generic. With that said, if the prices dropped I would enjoy the food a lot better. I only got the crunchy honey chicken (I think that is what it is called) and found it to be very sweet.
