It's the comic book store you'd want to hang out at when you were a kid. Everytime I'm at Eide's it's straight down stairs to wait for my kids, and husband to look over the comic books. I think the spinning magazine racks are the same ones my husband remembers from the 70's, lol. The guys are knowledgable, and helpful. It's definitely a trip down memory lane. read more

One of the things I miss the most about Pittsburgh is Eides. On the main floor you can satisfy all your musical cravings. The goth/industrial section is particularly good, and run by the awesome Jim Semonik (aka DJ Hiem). There's also a nice selection of metal and rock CDs, records, t-shirts, and magazines. I'm not sure if the used CD section is still around, but at one time it was my dear friend. Downstairs there's a bevvy of toys and comics - any collector's dream. Upstairs on the third level are movies, books, and more magazines. Eides = 3 floors of pure entertainment bliss. Their super-friendly employees are always ready to geek out with you, too. I pity the fool that spends time in Pittsburgh without checking out Eides. The end! read more

Best comic shop ever...even including "back in the day" from the 80s. I took my 11-year-old daughter to find her Manga books but I walked out with a stack of "Sgt. Rock"; I haven't seen them in years. The staff was very pleasant also. read more

After my visit to Eide's Entertainment, I must say I am not a fan and was in no way impressed. A fact that was even more disappointing, considering it was the only store out of about five or so that I wanted to visit during my weekend in Pittsburgh that I actually got to shop at. Seeing how much other people love it, I feel that my unhappiness with Eide's probably needs some further explanation. First of all, this place is much more of a comic book store than it is a record store, something I was completely aware of going into it. However, I was still disappointed with the selection of records that the store offered. It didn't seem very diverse to me and much of it seemed extremely over priced. I ended up only buying one record from Eide's because of this. In addition, and the biggest reason I am giving Eide's two stars, is the staff here is very, very rude. No, I don't mean your typical "I work at a record store so I am better than you" rude you get at some stores. The employees working on the record level of the store were just plain nasty. I saw a 40+ year old man yell at my little sister for putting a record back out of alphabetical order. Keep in mind, my little sister is about 5 feet tall and maybe weigh 100 lbs. I guess that this guy gets his jollies off of bullying little girls, who knows, but it was unacceptable. To top it off, he did everything but accuse my sister of stealing the record, because he couldn't find it. Of course he couldn't find it because my sister did put it back in alphabetical order where it went. Ass. Long story short, I will never ever return to Eide's Entertainment and I would discourage anyone else who cares about being treated with some sense of decency to do the same. These guys really need to get over themselves. read more

Was down there today, the girl in the basement was super nice but her manager was rude as hell and was yelling at her to get all the customers out several minutes before closing time. He also walked around and complained about the customers. Decent selection of comics (was happy to find some old Epic, Gold Key, and Conan comics) but terrible management. It's a real shame that the guy who works the basement has to perpetuate the stereotype of a nasty, condescending comic book store owner. Try going to Duncan's (run by a super helpful and friendly guy), Phantom of the Attic, New Dimension, South Side Comics, or just about any other shop in the greater Pittsburgh area and you'll be treated a whole hell of a lot better. read more

Possibly one of the least friendly record (and other stuff) stores I've ever been in. From the signs on the doors and at the entrances yelling at me about my bag and cell phone, TOTALLY wonky organization, lack of separation by genres outside the bargain bins and a room full of movies and music that is quieter than a library on sunday morning, I felt almost like an intruder from the moment I set foot inside. The sad part is that I really want places like this to succeed, and I'm so glad to find one this large and with this much inventory, but I've never understood the terrible customer service that I experience in these places. Can't they understand that they are quickly becoming extinct, and the policy of no eye contact and no interaction with anyone who doesn't work there isn't a sustainable business model? You literally have to walk past a staff counter on each floor who will not acknowledge your existence, and it's completely understandable if they are busy, they weren't, and I have no interest with a new salesperson friend, but a "hey, how's it goin'" or "can I help you" would be greatly appreciated. As a person on their initial visit, I would have loved to have a quick overview of the store itself because although there are signs posted as you walk in, I obviously ignored them. I strolled onto the first floor and not being a comic book person, I didn't have an interest in their inventory. It wasn't until I saw someone get off the elevator that I realized there were more floors to visit. I spent way too much time on a floor where I had very little interest because I thought it was all they had to offer. I would have much rather known initially and started my journey on a floor that catered more to my interests. That being said, for as long as they have been there and as much inventory they had it wasn't what I would call exceptional. Now I don't know a thing about comics, there are two floors dedicated to them and from what I could tell they had some really cool, really old items that I enjoyed looking at just because of their age and graphics, but I'll leave that review up to someone who knows more about them. The DVD/BR selection was better than average. They have so much and yet it seemed lacking at the same time. There wasn't anything terribly obscure, and there wasn't a lot of volume on the items I thought they would have acquired. I'm usually on the look out for television series and wrestling and I wasn't impressed. No Monk, Psych, not much Family Guy or the Simpsons and nothing really obscure. I'm not saying those are good gauges of a quality store, I'm just saying they are the usual fodder I see stocked and they were markedly absent. Also, there were a couple of items I had to put back because of the price, their prices are a little high for used inventory. I go into these places because I enjoy looking through these items but I'm savvy enough to know what internet prices are for them, I'm not an economist but if you just charged slightly less than the internet, I'm much more likely to purchase the item. I also know when an item is obscure and hard to find, but it unnerves me to no end to have my excitement of finding them squelched by the "more than a buy it now" pricetag. I understand supply and demand but I also understand competition and comparison and no matter how obscure an item is, and most of these were not what I would call "holy grail" items, I will always be able to find it online eventually if I really wanted it. When I'm in this situation, I relate these purchases to impulse buys, it's there, it's in my hand and it would be cool to walk home with, but when you make the price equal or greater than what I can buy it for elsewhere, and you have made no effort to connect with me as a customer, you can bet I'm going to leave it on the shelf. I apologize if this has turned into a diatribe against these types of stores in general, but I did have all of these thoughts while I was there. The cd selection was good. It is on the top floor and I almost walked out without realizing that it was an approachable floor. Again, read the sign upon entering. Although they had a lot, their downfall was two-fold, most of their inventory seems to gravitate towards the death and dark metal and most of it was new. It's always as if the guy who purchases the cds for the store purchases them for his own interest. Their used selection was small but it wasn't bad. They also do in my opinion the mortal sin of used cd stores, they charge too much for their cds and they don't have a listening station. I'm not throwing down $6 for a used cd for a band that might be good because I like their cover art. My musical tastes are way too narrow for me to justify that expenditure. Now you let me listen to them before I purchase them, I'll grab a handful and quickly listen through them and probably grab a couple, especially at that price. Start at $2 and I'll take a chance unheard. Again, no economist, but 1 purchase from me is more than the none that I made. The "leave your bag at the front" is understandable, but if you make this policy, I would appreciate a little more attentiveness toward my other purchases. They have a few toys in the basement, nothing special. They seem to dabble in a lot and master nothing. I could become a regular but it would only be if I happen to in the area. read more

When I asked about the potential of a lower price for a comic that was in such bad shape it probably wasn't worth the bag and board that was with it, I was scoffed at and told I wasn't spending enough money to get a lower price. These guys are rude every single time I go in there. Their selection is decent, but don't expect ANY kind of customer service whatsoever. read more

Eides is quite simply the best entertainment store in Pittsburgh. The Comics floor has an extensive selection of old, new, budget, trades, figurines, pretty much anything you want to know. And they'll help you find something new if you're stuck or just in the mood for something different. Jim & Ken are the nicest, most loveable guys and they turn the comic store stereotype on its head. The rest of the store is amazing, but I started going for the comics and I go back for the comics. :) read more

Cool store. They sell comics, dvds, blue ray, VCR tapes, collectable figurines (Disney, super heros ect) I also found beautiful crystal and a deep fryer from the 50s lol. Eide's Records is THE music store in Pittsburgh. And Comic Books. And other crazy counter/sub-culture items. My first experience with Eide's was in the early 80's when it was on the North Side. I was playing Dungeons and Dragons and they had a ton of books and stuff. The books were under the records, so we'd crawl around under the punks & skins to find the coveted Dungeonmaster manual. It's really how I found out about Punk Music. I bought a Sex Pistols album just because of the name, I was 13 it was taboo. It's a love affair that stills burns today. Eide's is about 20 times the size now in it's Penn Ave location by the Convention Center. read more

Staggeringly comprehensive selection. And a staff who, to a one, was born to work in a comic book store. They even sound like the Comic Book Guy in The Simpsons. Three floors of fun stuff to explore. The one thing is they could be a little less uptight about cel phones and stuff, but what the hell -- it's actually kind of nice that a place in the modern world doesn't place electronic communications above all other forms of interaction. read more

Three stories of awesome weirdness. In basement you've got comics - lots of superhero mags and a good collection of back issues, but they are weak in the types of books I'm looking for - independents, minis and undergrounds. There's also non-sports cards and figures. The ground floor has music - no comment because I didn't spend much time there. The second floor has science fiction books, a eclectic assortment of movies, adult comics and even some SECOND HAND PORN. If you're into these sorts of things, you'll want to allow at least an hour to have a good look around. I surprised myself by leaving empty-handed, mostly because I can't keep up the books and mags I've already got. read more

I got to spend some time at Eide's when I was in Pittsburgh with a few friends and was impressed with their selection in movies and music. More specifically, I was impressed with their selection of obscure horror movies and foreign death metal music. I found myself having to put quite a few things back because it was far too easy splurge and make a huge purchase. I interacted with one staff person who was very helpful in trying to find a specific artist for me even though the search came up empty. For those of us who still love to spend time flipping through some music and finding that perfect CD, Eide's was quite the treat and will be a staple for every future Pittsburgh visit for me. read more

Huge store, 4 floors of everything ranging from Lionel Ritchie vinyl to Hawkman comic books. The sign outside states "video games", but I only found about 5 Sega Genesis games in the entire store. The only issue or problem I ran into was more of an opinion: the prices for most of the comics on the bottom floor were outrageously expensive. I'm talking $30-$40 comic books that you can easily get on Amazon or eBay for under $10. Other than that, this store is a great place to stop by and take a look at their huge collection read more

This is my all time favorite comic shop. There have 3 floors of comics and other memorabilia. I personally like silver surfer comics, and they have them organized in order in a fancy drawer system. Parking is a little touch though. Love this store. read more

I always stop by Eide's when I'm in Pittsburgh. I always walk away with at least one or two action figures.

This place has a great selection of comics. It is huge in comparison to the other shops I usually go to in Pittsburgh. I gave it a lower rating for several reasons. I chuckled at the 6-7 item list of rules on the door when I walked in (no phone conversations, no disruptive kids, no unhygienic adults, no bags, etc.), but by the time I left, the list was no longer funny and was more just another aspect of the somewhat unwelcoming environment in this shop. While shopping, one of the workers was loudly yelling at his computer in the middle of the store. Later, another work was yelling (borderline screaming) to another co-worker about the "ignorance of people in the United States," followed by pretty inappropriate insults to people living in the South and people who voted for Trump. Whether I agreed with his statements or not is irrelevant; it was extremely unprofessional, and had I met the qualifications of the people he was insulting, I would have been furious and extremely offended. The place is huge, so it is pretty ridiculous to hear workers' conversations so loudly that I can't even try not to listen. The shop was really awesome with an impressive collection of comics and vinyl, but the environment just isn't as welcoming as my other favorite comic book shops in Pittsburgh. Definitely check it out if you walk past, and I'll hope with you that the workers are in a better mood that day. read more

Unfortunately the other reviews are right about the unfriendly staff in the basement. I have had no trouble whatsoever on the other floors. In fact I am on friendly talking terms with one of the guys on the main floor but I have had so many bad experiences on the bottom floor. I normally am understanding of people who have bad people skills and maybe this is the problem. Maybe they don't know how they are coming across but if you are a salesman you need to learn how to conduct yourself in a professional manner! This last visit was the end of my patience, I was looking for a comic book that I had read a review for online. I don't like to buy things online so I thought I would pop in at Eides and see if they had it. I couldn't find it and so I made the unfortunate mistake of asking the staff. The man who helped me was reluctant to do so and when he couldn't find it he got frustrated and then began to say it didn't exist. He argued that I didn't know what I was talking about. This is just poor salesmanship, the customer is never wrong and you most certainly do not tell them that they are no matter how ridiculous they are! I am fed up with this service and will not be coming back. In case the salesman reads this, another comic store not only gave me the title of the comic, they ordered it for me! read more

Downstairs is perfect. You will find an amazing selection of comics and toys that you will love. I have been going here for a very, VERY long time. Sadly, the place where they lack the most is in costumer service. They will treat their younger costumers as children and kind of make them feel weird. Some of the employees are just flat out rude. I have been asked to leave by some for staying in the store to long with friends. But other than that it is a good store. Unfortunately they only lose 2 stars do to costumer service. read more

I'm a broke student so when I had some cash to burn, on the day the First Justice League came out, I stopped in to buy some #1 issues & had the bright idea to buy 10 copies so I could sell some online. As the nice young clerk was checking me out, a rude older man came by, picked up the telephone & said, "someone's up here cleaning you out of JL issues" and then he told me that there was a 2 issue limit. There were at least 100 copies of this issue sitting on the counter, not too mention what was on the shelves! Why would they turn away a customer's money like that? More importantly, why would they treat a new customer so rudely? I will never return to buy comics, cds, or their lame display of used household items ever! read more

i just made my very last trip to eides. if it were 1992 i would have been happy to walk in the front door and just hand over all of the contents of my wallet for everything on my list of must have it now music. but reality slapped me in the face on this past visit to PA. i used to schedule regular meccas to this record store because it was crawling with cool books, magazines, vinyl, helpful and cool staff -oddly enough, one of the employees was the drummer on a cd i was on the hunt for. i probably made his day when i asked him where i could find it. but times have changed, i have witnessed the demise of all record stores for that matter. for christsake, they were selling weird wreaths with artificial flowers and ribbons that someones grandmother probably made. turning away from that i saw a rack with a bunch of thrift store clothes on it? come to eides for all of your comic books needs, by all means. when it comes to music and records and the first floor of this store, close it down already. thanks for the memories. read more
