Hope did an amazing job!! I'm very pleased with how she did my hair. She was very kind and nice!! When I tried to book the appointment, the front desk lady couldn't answer a single question. All she said was "I'm not a hairstylist so I'm not sure but you can come in and talk to someone", when I asked what was the treatment that they offer to first time clients. Held my sister's hair she ordered for extensions, over $500 worth, hostage after the stylist that was suppose to do her hair put her two weeks in. When my sister went to retrieve the already paid for $500 of hair, she was given the run around, never offered a refund but eventually was given four boxes of hair in which one box was already opened and turned out to be the wrong color! The owner, Tanya is refusing to resolve the issue and does not care that she receive the incorrect order. I do not wish this level of unprofessionalism on anyone!!! What a joke!!! read more

Okay, so this salon is now called Eight Five Zero Salon, but I don't think it's updated in Yelp! yet. It's an AVEDA salon and it is the effing bomb. My best friend recommended this place to me after I came here. I was very nervous because as anyone knows who has a bad haircut or a chop job, you get very particular about who cuts your hair. I looked all over Tallahassee and I picked Katharine based on her video on their website. She seemed super chill and down to Earth. They also send you little reminder emails about your upcoming appointment and I got a text as well which was appreciated. Ya'll, when I say this haircut gave me life...yes. I'm obviously not a stylist, I don't know the lingo, but I just know I want it to look nice. I talked to Katharine for a bit, we vibed some, and she got an idea of what I wanted. I get so nervous about certain words because like I said-Idk what half of them mean. I just knew I didn't want a lot of length off and I wanted it to be healthy and happy. She explained everything really well, conversation flowed, and wasn't at all awkward which I appreciate. They do like a little should rub, some essential oil action, hot towel, scalp massage. I don't know if I can ever go back from AVEDA after this experience. All together it was about 2 hours because I have a full mane, but it was lovely and very relaxing. I can't recommend Katharine enough- she is amazing and super chill. I love the interior of the place also and a big fan of the massive, free parking lot on the other side of the building. She also hyped me up and let me selfie with their ring light so I was living for it. Thanks again. I will recommend this all day long. I was looking to get my haircut before my graduation pictures but didn't want to spend a fortune as I only wanted a slight trim. I made an appointment with Ivy and her price was $30 (cheaper than most competitors around town). I was nervous to go to someone new as I have been visiting the same hair dresser in South Florida for years. When I sat down in Ivy's chair she took the time to educate me on different hair products and methods I could be using to benefit my hair and it's health. Ivy was very pleasant and took her time and dedication to give me a great hair cut. I am very happy with the result as my hair looks much healthier. Crystal took my dull, grown out balayage (that never really excited me) and transformed it into an all over gorgeous, buttery blonde. No bleach was used in the process in order to protect my thin hair, and the results are amazing. The other stylists gave both of us compliments during the process and it made me feel more confident about taking the plunge into full blonde territory. Elizabeth is so nice, we had a great conversation vs. other various salons where the stylists either talk your ear off or don't say anything at all (awkward). She is a new stylist and when I asked for a very specific cut, she got a more advanced stylist to assist her to make sure she was doing exactly what I wanted. The only complaint I have is, she recommended I should take 2-3 inches off my hair and I very explicitly told her I want only 1 inch taken off (i am growing my hair out), I ended up with 3 inches of my hair chopped off.... That's 6 months of growth that I now have to wait to grow back. At the end of the day I'm so glad that I got a great shape and style, and that hair does grow. read more

Oh my gosh, how am I the first person to review this place? This chic little salon is located in the Manor at Midtown plaza, which is my favorite part of town. I wanted to set up an appointment with Audrey since she came highly recommended from my sister, but Audrey books up crazy fast so I set up an appointment with another stylist, Emily. I walked in and the second I did I felt instantly welcome, the receptionist was so sweet and offered me water, coffee, whatever. I sat for only 10 minutes before Emily came out and brought me back. I showed her pictures of the style I wanted and we talked about it and got really excited about how good it was going to look once finished. She brought me back to wash my hair and *oh my god* best head massage/hair washing of my life! It was awesome. She cut my hair pretty quick, I mainly wanted a trim and a different style of bangs. She also used some nice Aveda products in my hair and I was very happy with the end product! I am definitely going back, I already have my next appointment set, and they even give you a free bang trim to hold you over until your next appointment. I have never enjoyed a hair cut more! Last week was my second time coming to Dream State - all in all, this place works wonders! The reception is always very friendly and offers something to drink upon arrival. I have seen both Krysta and Claire - who are both wonderful. The customer service here is unlike any other! After Krysta gave me my hair cut which I was obsessed with, I did notice some strands were longer on one side of my face than the other. I went back the next day to have it fixed (complimentary) and someone called me the day after to make sure it was 100% how I liked it and Krysta even mailed me a card herself apologizing (even though there was no need to!). I have been coming to Dream State when it was called the Green Periot (or something similar). I used to love it and would work with the same person for over 10 years. I use Aveda products and my hairdresser would give me the best hair massage in the world. When they changed to Dream State and new management everything fell apart. First, the entire staff changed which I did not appreciate as I was familiar with by now. Second, my hairdresser left and tried 3 times a new person. It was horrible. She was so incompetent and expensive that I just could not believe it. This person was not trained whatsoever but she was considered an experience stylist. I asked for brown hair showing a picture and she gave me platinum bleach hair. Another time my roots were bloody red and the rest bleach blond. I will never go back. read more

HAIR- Amanda Blass is an incredibly talented, gifted professional. She did my hair on my wedding day, which also happened to be her 30th birthday, which was absolutely perfect! I LOVED my hair on the day of and continue to enjoy Amanda's work when I look at my wedding photos. Amanda met with me before the wedding to do a trial. She patiently talked me through and tested different options, looking at photos of my dress and accessories and making sure she understood the style I was going for. On the day of, and on HER special day, she met me bright-and-early to do my hair. She worked on my hair until everything was perfect, including the bangs, the curls, ratio of hair up to down, and the flowers in my hair. Amanda is a total perfectionist and I really appreciated that on my wedding day. My hair looked fantastic all day and all night, without looking over done or overly structured. She totally nailed the half-up, rustic-chic, not-too-cas-not-too-formal look. I would highly recommend Amanda Blass for your hair, either for your special occasion, or just because you need a hair cut. She is wonderful and generous and totally sweet. You'll love her, just as all her clients do! MAKE-UP- Audrey is a talented, patient, and experienced professional. She did my make-up on my wedding day and it looked amazing. She has a great command of make-up and a great sense of style. She knew exactly the right color combos that would look good on my olive skin, and she accommodated my wishes not to look overly done. Audrey is excellent at applying eyelashes. I never would have thought that I would like them, but she made them look natural. I loved the look--it was perfect for my wedding day. Last, Audrey was patient with me. I was very worried about having too much make-up on, but she talked me through the necessity of needing additional make-up for photos. My regular salon was closed and I was having photos taken and wanted to get my hair styled so I made an appointment here. I saw Katherine (I think?) and she was really nice and did a great job. I did not like how she kept trying to sell me products and insisted that my hair was damaged. I have dyed ombré hair, but I do not heat style my hair ever, and I know it is not *that* damaged. I don't think it's all her fault, the excessive selling is a "thing" at Aveda salons, but still it's pretty annoying when visiting a salon is supposed to be relaxing. They do offer $20 off for their first time clients, which is a nice gesture, my wash + style was only $5! read more

And they go by levels of stylists, so don't get attached to a certain stylist unless you want to have a very very significant jump in price each time you go. I had an appointment (made five weeks in advance and confirmed via text two days ago) and showed up, after driving almost an hour just for this appointment, to be told, "Oh we're sorry your appointment got accidentally removed from our schedule". My entire life I have avoided salons! In my opinion, they are awkward, often catty and rarely did I ever get what I wanted (or even close to it). A friend of mine handed me a referral card and told me if I got my haircut at Dream State she would get a discount the next time she got her hair colored and my first haircut would be $2. I really didn't want to go but I did, and I am so glad I did! These people are amazing! I got a warm, friendly smile from everyone in the building! I was offered drinks, cupcakes, and a head massage which I normally wouldn't like.. I'm not a fan of people touching me but it was done during the shampoo and was wonderful! The young lady cutting my hair seemed to be genuinely excited about changing my look for me and although she was an "auditioner", I had more confidence in her than I've had in $80 haircuts in other salons. This salon has solved my "salon anxiety" and I wish I had visited years ago.. never have I had so many compliments on my hair. PS. Ask for samples! I go here and get my hair done by Claire. She does a great job texturizing hair and doing layers for someone with a lot of hair. She is also easy to talk to. Prices are a little high, but you can just do a cut without the shampoo/blow out and it is not too bad. I have been going to Green Peridot since it was a tiny 2-seat salon. It is much larger now, but still quirky, inviting, and excellent quality. I used to have my hair cut by the owner, who is one of the nicest people you'll meet. She is hard to get an appointment with though, so now that I live outside Tallahassee, I just take whoever I can get when I know I'm going to be in town. I have never been let down. The cut I got yesterday--from a random top-tier stylist--is easily the best one I've had in a year, beating out four stylists at three salons in Gainesville. He really took the time to understand what I wanted, then execute it really well. All the little quirks of my hair that usually trip up stylists, he either just got right, or asked me about. In the end, everything was absolutely spot on. It looks great, and unlike with a less skillful cut, I'm confident that it will still look great in a couple of weeks. I'm listing the price range as moderate, because it can be. I paid $52 with tip for a men's wash and cut, but I had asked for a top-tier stylist. There are also second-teir stylists who are less pricey. The salon staff are very up-front and accommodating about making sure you get a stylist who satisfies your needs, including being in your price range. Last, getting a haircut at Green Peridot is just a fun, relaxing experience. The design is funky but not kitschy. When you check in with the receptionist, you're offered water or tea while you wait. Your stylist takes you back to their station and talks over what you want, what works and doesn't work in your hair, any quirks or hang-ups, etc. After any dry trimming that might be needed, you head over for the shampoo/condition. This is my favorite part. It's an Aveda salon, so the products smell great, but the staff really goes the extra mile in terms of giving a great scalp massage, complete with a hot towel for your forehead. Absolutely relaxing. After you're washed and conditioned, you head back over for the cut and style. The stylist will talk to you a bit about what products to use, but they are totally not pushy about trying to sell product. In all my years of getting my hair cut here, I have only ever had one product particularly recommended to me, and the recommendation came with a sample. I still use that product every day. So, to summarize: Green Peridot rocks. It isn't cheap, but it it totally worth it, and they can usually accommodate your affordability needs. read more
