In the Croatian heat I was averaging about one gelato a day as I tried to find the best version. None were bad but neither were any as good as that found in Italy. Then I went to Vienna and I stopped with the gelato despite the persistent heat.
During my week in Vienna I must've walked by this particular ice cream outpost (there are at least 5 in Vienna alone) twice per day but it wasn't until my final evening that I decided to spring for ice cream here. I'm uncertain even Italian gelato could compete with Eis-Greissler.
Ice cream differs from gelato via the inclusion of cream. Gelato contains more milk than cream; ice cream the opposite. Eis-Greissler's ice cream is laden with fresh cream and an unbelievably rich roster of flavors.
This little ice cream stand sometimes sported a line of people waiting and at other times, no wait at all. I stepped up to order when there was no line but a line formed quickly as one in my group seemingly had to sample almost everything on offer. Me? I was already off on a nearby step, savoring Eis-Geissler's ice cream which really did taste of cream. It was exactly what I'd been searching for throughout Croatia and here I found it, in Vienna.
If you see an Eis-Geissler don't wait until the final night of your visit to try it. read more
