That being said, Pennsylvania summer fairs and festivals are just something that have to be experienced to fully understand! Grange Fair is truly a step back in time - 2008 marks its 134th year! "The Grange" is a national agricultural organization that dates back to 1867 and serves the interests of farmers and their communities. Grange Fair is something different to everyone. Certainly, those who have no experience in agriculture or animal husbandry will still be entertained by the carnival rides, games like ski-ball and balloon darts, and food, Food, FOOD! Musical acts perform daily during this week-long event, and late-evening entertainment often headlines with national performers. It's worth your time to really take in all the animal, farming and craft displays throughout the fair. 4-H participants, many of them young children and adolescents, raise award-winning cattle, sheep, rabbits, pigs and goats all year with the goal of taking a grand prize at Grange Fair! Many also show off their farming and craft skills with displays of fresh or canned fruits and vegetables that they've produced and handmade items such as blankets and clothing. Tractor pulls and drag races draw participants from all over the state and offer some exciting, albeit loud, entertainment! The tent camping at Grange Fair is based on a waiting list, which is reportedly years-long. Tents are military-style and are erected by the Fair. Families pass their tent sites down through generations, so it's unlikely that you'll get a spot unless you marry into a tenting family! Tent campers furnish their tents with a lot of creativity - some looking more like the inside of your living room! Still, Centre Hall, PA is surrounded by some of the best wilderness in PA, and is also minutes from downtown State College, PA.
