It can fill up in the summer on weekends and in hunting season, so you need to arrive early then. There are only 28 spaces and two Tipis. So reserve if you can. It is a halfway point for us so we use it at least 4 times a summer. A pass makes sense if you visit often, they have them for residents and non-residents. The park has lots of large cottonwood trees and is right on the river. Info from their website: Park Features Visit and enjoy Beavertail Hill! One-half mile of the park is located on the Clark Fork River that provides terrific fishing and floating opportunities. You can camp and go on a one-hour walking nature trail through a thick canopy of cottonwoods. Don't miss our free interpretive programs in the amphitheatre on Saturday evenings during the summer. The park has an elevation of 3,615 feet and is 65 acres. Boating is carry-in only. There are 28 developed campsites and tipi rentals. The two Sioux-style tipis at Beavertail Hill are 18 feet in size and can comfortably sleep six-eight people. The canvas tipis have no furnishings, but do have indoor-outdoor carpeting inside, and a picnic table and fire grill located outside. Existing ADA Level: Easy Accessibility. Take exit 130 from I-90 E, cross the railroad and follow Bonita Station Rd, the park is well marked and on your left.

The first thing as…read moresoon as we pulled in I couldn't get out of my car because of the dogs that were barking aggressively at us right outside the door of our car, right next to the signs that say "No pets in this area" and "All pets must be on leash." When I finally got inside to check in, I mentioned the dogs and the lady working inside said,"The signs don't apply to the owners dogs." Later that evening there was an older gentleman with 2 smaller dogs on a leash trying to take his dogs for a walk, but the owners dogs ambushed the guys dogs, running up to them barking and nipping at them. The owner was nowhere to be seen to control her dogs. The next night when we returned to the campground when I pulled in I turned the corner real slow because I knew the dogs would probably be there, and stopped at the stop sign and continued to our site. A few minutes later the owner came rushing over on her golf cart with her pack of barking dogs and started chewing my husbands ass about how he didn't stop at the stop sign and that the speed limit is 5 mph in the campground and that she watched him pull in, and when I said that was funny because he wasnt driving and I did stop at the stop sign because I knew there were dogs around there. she then told me that I was wrong and that I needed to follow her rules and that I needed to move the car because we were parked on the grass, which there is no grass, it's all weeds. When looking around I noticed that half of the people staying there, or I should say living there were parked on the "grass." While this was going on her dogs were running around our camp site barking at us. The dumpsters were filled with garbage, the noise from the highway is loud, and the people that live there have junk and broke down cars all over the place. The only good thing about this place is that the bathroom was clean.

The vending machines have cookies and other items from 2003, so you can see how well the owners look after things. The store has everything you will need if you are a resident, but not if you are a traveler (very little if you are a traveler) and most of the items are old. Make sure you stop at her stop sign or she will chase you down and yell at you. Heck, I stopped and she chased me down at yelled at me because she did a California stop.... Yup, I stopped completely and then continued but since I am from California it wasn't a stop... The 2 dumpsters were overflowing with trash on the ground, one resident is building flower boxes and stairs for his income to pay his monthly rent. The laundry is not ventilated but read the sign and don't open the window or you will get yelled at. Our daughter lives in Missoula and we will be going to see her again, but we won't be staying at this location, because when our daughter went to check in at the office to say she was visiting us, the lady want going to let her into the park to park her car behind our rig and car (there was plenty of room. If you are looking for a place and this is the last place to stay at, keep moving as there has to be something better down the road. I can't give it 0 stars or I would.

Too many rules and not much to justify those rules. When you book there is no reference to the…read morerule where you cannot put up a small dog fence outside your trailer porch area. They make you sign a long list of conditions when you arrive but do not give you a copy for reference. We set up our dog fence and just when I was finished a young lady, who looked like a college student working there in the Summer, came up to me and abruptly, in an authoritarian manner told me they don't allow dog fences. She told me that they, "have had dogs get out and get hit on the road out front, people leave there dogs alone in the fenced area which can also cause problems". Just a boat load of justifications for why they don't allow dog fences. So I told her I would comply and take down the fence, but I'm not happy with the rules. Then she saw that we had some solar lights with stakes that I had put in the ground a few inches and she told me to be careful and not put those in very far as they have had tent campers punch into the water line because it's buried so shallow. That's when I knew I was dealing with poor management and an authoritarian woman child throwing her weight around. She then left, I never spoke to her again and the rest of our experience was okay. In summary, we like to stay at places that aren't so strict with rules that punish good people for what a few bad people do. As far as punching into water lines, if someone breaches a water line because the infrastructure was so poorly built that's not my problem. That' just the cost of doing business. Yellowrock is a nice setting, but my main problems and complaints are. 1. They are not clear on their rules and do NOT give you a copy of the huge page of rules you sign off on. 2. Unprofessional attitude. The young lady who let me know I was not in compliance with their book of rules could have been more tactful. Given all of this we will NOT return. We are just trying to enjoy some outdoor time and relax with our dogs in a nice setting when we are out in our RV. It is not worth it to be lectured and have to put up with a bunch of rules that impede our ability to enjoy ourselves.

Wendover is located ~3 miles west of Powell Junction on U.S. 12, adjacent to the Lochsa River in…read morethe Nez-Perce/Clearwater National Forest. It costs $14/night and features picnic tables, fire pits with grills, vault toilets, trash pickup and hand pump well water. The river is an easy walk. This is a good place for tent camping, though there are campers and trailers there as well though no hookups. Gas, a few provisions and restaurant food are available just up the road at the Lochsa Lodge but if you want real groceries you need to go over Lolo Pass and into Missoula around 50 miles each way. There's no cell phone service. There's a modest amount of separation between most sites around the perimeter, and many of the big trees are cedars. Though the road is nearby, traffic tapers off to almost nothing after dark. It's a popular road for motorcycles so the Harley riders are making most of the noise. The occasional westbound trucker will hit the jakes if feeling mean. On the whole, very peaceful and quiet except Friday and Saturday nights and mostly occupied by people going fly fishing along the river.

Hours are funky. Basically closed during winter and limites hours at other times due to flooding risks and all that good stuff. Salmon Lake is ideal for boating, camping during summer and lounging around. Im not sure about swimming in the lake. Kinda sketchy depending on boats and human pollution. Night time is surreal on clear nights. The night sky illuminates all the stardust in their pure glory. The colors are different than what we cali scumbags are accustomed to seeing based on their proximity to the north. Either way. Kick back and relax. Let nature sooth your soul.

Hidden Gem!! The…read moreLost Creek State Park Campground is a hidden gem nestled deep in the woods of Anaconda but well worth the drive. There are 21 sites nestled between tall lodge pole pines that look up to massive rock walls surrounding the park. If you continue driving deep into the canyon to the back of the park you will be pleasantly surprised to find 5-6 campsites that accommodate tents as well as small RVs (we have a 13'). Our neighbor had an 18' RV & it fit snugly in the camp site. We arrived close to dark, but the bonus for driving all the way back to the end of the canyon was a beautiful bubbling stream right behind the campsites that was generated from a small waterfall that was only a 150 yard walk on a paved trail from the main road. Don, the camp host, though a rugged man, was incredibly helpful and pleasant to speak with. As soon a we arrived, he showed up in his truck and made sure we had everything we needed & went on to let us know about the waterfalls behind our campsite and the Golden Eagles nesting above. In the morning, he made it a point to come by & let us know about the Mountain Blue Bird nest at campsite 2. Even though we had to drive through some questionable looking country neighborhoods to get to the park, it was well worth the trek from I-90. Lost Creek State Park is now our new favorite camping spot in Montana. Highly recommend!

Bathrooms were very clean and heated as well. Sharon the owner, was very accommodating with the "points of interest" in the area. Was planning on staying one night but chose to stay another. I would stay there again.
