It costs $14/night and features picnic tables, fire pits with grills, vault toilets, trash pickup and hand pump well water. The river is an easy walk. This is a good place for tent camping, though there are campers and trailers there as well though no hookups. Gas, a few provisions and restaurant food are available just up the road at the Lochsa Lodge but if you want real groceries you need to go over Lolo Pass and into Missoula around 50 miles each way. There's no cell phone service. There's a modest amount of separation between most sites around the perimeter, and many of the big trees are cedars. Though the road is nearby, traffic tapers off to almost nothing after dark. It's a popular road for motorcycles so the Harley riders are making most of the noise. The occasional westbound trucker will hit the jakes if feeling mean. On the whole, very peaceful and quiet except Friday and Saturday nights and mostly occupied by people going fly fishing along the river.

Hidden Gem!! The…read moreLost Creek State Park Campground is a hidden gem nestled deep in the woods of Anaconda but well worth the drive. There are 21 sites nestled between tall lodge pole pines that look up to massive rock walls surrounding the park. If you continue driving deep into the canyon to the back of the park you will be pleasantly surprised to find 5-6 campsites that accommodate tents as well as small RVs (we have a 13'). Our neighbor had an 18' RV & it fit snugly in the camp site. We arrived close to dark, but the bonus for driving all the way back to the end of the canyon was a beautiful bubbling stream right behind the campsites that was generated from a small waterfall that was only a 150 yard walk on a paved trail from the main road. Don, the camp host, though a rugged man, was incredibly helpful and pleasant to speak with. As soon a we arrived, he showed up in his truck and made sure we had everything we needed & went on to let us know about the waterfalls behind our campsite and the Golden Eagles nesting above. In the morning, he made it a point to come by & let us know about the Mountain Blue Bird nest at campsite 2. Even though we had to drive through some questionable looking country neighborhoods to get to the park, it was well worth the trek from I-90. Lost Creek State Park is now our new favorite camping spot in Montana. Highly recommend!

The ONLY reason I am giving them four stars is because of Eddie! The first night we were there was…read morehorrible, due to a fight in the hall and the fact that we couldn't fix any food cause there were no amenities in the kitchenette. However, when I went and talked to Eddie he said he would get it sorted for us! Sure enough, when we came back in the afternoon he told us we would be compensated for that night! They also gave us a discounted rate for the rest of the time we were there! The thing is, this is an extended stay hotel, so you HAVE to be prepared for the fact that this is not ur typical hotel stay. Additionally, the rooms are very minimalistic, and yet they are nice and clean! I am allergic to chlorine so I asked them not to use it in our room, and they went out of their way to make sure the room was free of bleach. Even when we needed more pillows and the smelled like bleach, Eddie went out of his way and found me brand new pillows to use! My husband's dialysis requires that I do special preparation for sanitisation, which means once I get it how it needs to be I can't have other people coming in trying to clean! They were very respectful of our situation! Additionally, dialysis takes up a lot of room and we needed another chair to put things on! Eddie had them give me the chair from out of their break room! Lastly, travelling with dialysis requires that we have his nightly fluid be delivered, and again Eddie went out of his way to watch for our delivery and when it arrived he rang me to see if I wanted him to put them into our room! That's five boxes of 12 litres each, he made sure to get up to our room! I'm sure yous can see by now that Eddie was an amazing help to us! The hotel is brand new and they are in flux. There were a lot of things we did not know when we arrived! My recommendation is that you verify any expectations you might have in a hotel stay! Over all, we were blessed to have a place to retreat to during our difficult stay in Missoula for our son's funeral! We would stay there again for sure!

It was very clean. Our room had two sinks (one in the bathroom and one out) which was great for us and so much quicker getting ready in the AM. Our bed was very comfy. The feather pillows were just about flat and need to be replaced. We slept with our balcony door open (there was a screen) and another small window open. It was wonderful. The shower is in the jacuzzi bath so you have a pretty high side to step over. The shower was hot and had good pressure. My BF said he ran out of hot water. ‍. We scheduled breakfast for 9a and came down about 8:50 and sat and watched the hummingbirds at the 3 feeders, (they also have a koi pond), while Issac finished preparing our breakfast. It was delicious and had home chutney for our English muffins. I would stay here again and recommend you do too.

I am now subtracting a star because two and a half years later the rental agent takes issue with my four-star review claiming that I am "inaccurate." There are no inaccuracies in my post. We had a great time although we have several small quibbles about the property manager which kept this from being a five-star experience. I even left out the part about how the website says "pets allowed." When we arrived with our dogs the manager was SHOCKED. She actually told us to keep our dogs inside so the owner of the house who lives next door wouldn't see them. Dogs inside in July in Montana? Are you kidding me? (We did keep them up on the deck most of the time because there were lots of deer and we did not want to disturb them). If the website is as detailed and accurate as you say it is, it would have specified a pet policy other than just "pets allowed." It didn't. It still doesn't. This is on you, not us. As I said, it was a beautiful home and a fabulous location! It was money well spent. But the rental agent lacks communication skills and is not overly adept at being hospitable. The pet conditions were vague. If she didn't tell us to take our trash then she has really poor communication skills because both my sister-in-law and I heard her say to take our trash. And no, it was not clear that ALL the bedrooms in the house had twin beds and the only queens were together in the loft. (How does anyone expect to rent out a vacation home with such idiotic sleeping arrangements if they are described accurately?) It is too bad that this business owner denied my comments had any validity or were even accurate. A smart business person appreciates a four-star review especially if it has a bit of constructive feedback. Anyways, I do not appreciate being POKED for giving a four star review. Upon reflection, perhaps my review WAS inaccurate. I have revised my star rating accordingly. I was (not) surprised to see that the size of the Trout Bum portfolio has been drastically reduced to five properties. The house we rented is no longer being managed by them either. And if you look at their five star reviews, every single one of them is from a user who wrote their review shortly after this date and have written no other reviews ever in the five ensuing years. We started to follow it, but it took us on a private road which eventually became impassable for our minivan. If you call their number online, they will tell you what route to take! Garnet ghost town is itself fun for all ages! You can go in the old buildings, like the hotel, general store, and I believe even the cabins. We didn't go up to the cabins as we had an older dog with us and it was decently warm out :) You can still see the wallpapers in the old hotel, as well as the kitchen, the bathtub under the stairs, and the upstairs rooms. The gift shop was nice, and the lady there was very helpful. I would totally recommend visiting the Garnet ghost town! 10/10
