By far the best Mexican restaurant in the Seneca-Clemson area. I've tried every one that has opened and El Agave is da bomb. My boys and I LOVE this place. The staff is always so kind (one even offered to give me Spanish lessons when I mentioned I wanted to learn) and overall everyone is nice. The food is better than several places in Seneca. Honestly it's underrated. The bowl dip is a must! Also, I've seen reviews about chips.. just ask for different chips? lol this place is my fave ‍ affordable ad well! This restaurant is not what it used to be when it first opened. The carnitas were nothing more than a couple of pieces of burnt shredded pork. The guacamole wasn't fresh. It had a dark hue to it. The tamale tasted odd. It also tasted like cloves. I had to remind the waitress that it was supposed to have melted cheese over it. It was a chicken tamale. I asked the waitress if it was white or dark meat. She didn't know what white and dark meat was. She didn't even know what chicken breast was. The waitress was nice but it doesn't warrant a visit back, ever. read more

Been there two times, the first rated four stars, the second two, therefore the average is three. The first time (4-stars) the food was fresh but the portions were VERY small. The prices seem reasonable but for the actual amount of food, they are a little pricey. The second time we walked in and said we would like to sit at the bar, order a drink and take out. One of the employees was sitting at the bar and seemed upset that he had to get up and move to let us sit down. This restaurant is located 5 miles from the Clemson Football stadium, it was a Saturday evening a big college football night. The one TV above the bar had a Hispanic movie playing. I asked the bartender if she could change the channel to something in English (we were the only customers sitting at the bar) and she said she could not. Note: The remote for the TV was sitting at the end of the bar. Our food came out, we paid and left. When we got home, the portions were even smaller than before and my shrimp tasted old or freezer burnt, they definitely were not fresh. We are not "big" eaters but we both finished and were still very hungry. This is too bad, I like supporting local privately owned businesses. I guess my wife and I will wait for Uncle Julio's to open near Ram Cat Alley. I understand it is a chain but hopefully it will be consistent. read more

The chips were cold so I was impressed with that but the fish was . I did like my veggies as well, but do to us arriving late we were a little rushed and they looked annoyed. Those chefs did it on the food hut waiters can use a tuning doesn't matter that your about to get off. We road workers get off late. read more

Best Mexican we've had in this area. The Texas Margarita was delicious and we all enjoyed our food (Chori Pollo, Tacos and Burrito). Huge menu to choose from. Several outdoor tables but we dined inside. Salsa doesn't seem spicy at first but has a slow burn to it. Will be back! read more

Really nice staff. I was in my lunch break when I stopped in. Quacomole' was very good, I ordered it chunky. I made the mistake of ordering chicken burrito Mexicana and should have made it clear I don't like the shredded chicken. But that was my fault. The salsa was good. Has plenty of seating inside. The salsa was nothing more than tomato puree with very little onion and cilantro, no flavor, no chunks of vegetables, no flavor. Ordered two burritos for $10.00 each. an order of nachos, $10.00 I'm not cheap, but I expected really big burritos, and a decent amount of nachos. My wife and I were so amazed how small the portions were. And that white cheese sauce on top! YUK!!! straight from a can....Again no flavor, no spices!! For the $30.00 we spent, we should have went to Taco Bell and got the $5.00 chalupa box....Would have been better and cheaper..DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!! read more

Traditional Mexican that is obviously prepared fresh and with good ingredients and quality. Not the typical preparations that too many Mexican restaurants try to pawn off as "good" Mexican food these days. The tortillas were fresh and had to be homemade in house with an innocuous salsa that was probably more to the liking of the majority of Americans but too bland for me. However, the Relleno more than compensated and a young fellow named Alejandro concocted perhaps the best Margarita that we have ever drunk. Excellente!! We will certainly return. And for cred, I grew up in the Southwest and eaten Mexican food in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and California plus many times in Mexico so I know my Mexican food. read more

First time last time. They get 2 stars for the food actually not being bad. It is fairly straightforward Mexican and about what you would expect. They lost 3 stars for: Sitting for 10 mins by ourselves while a table beside us was seated, given drinks and chips, and order taken. Called attention to the waitress and she said she didn't see us. She looked right at us when we sat down. Second we ordered 2 appetizers. Sat for another 10 mins and our dinner showed up. No appetizers. Service is 2 thumbs down. No manager showed up to chat and apologize and though I haven't seen my bill yet as i wrote this I bet 3 bucks it will have the appetizers on it read more

I go to different restaurants every week on Friday night. Tonight my wife and I went to El portrillo, bar and grill. The food was bellow standards and the wait staff come and ask how everything is and we pointed out the problems and we got no response. People don't let the 4 star rating fool you. If you want watered down sweet tea a 12 oz steak where 4 ounces are fat and maybe 3/8 thick with 8 ounces of tasteless meat for 11.00 bucks this restaurant is for you. The texicans fighitas were way over cooked. And the beer selection is only 4 beers in bottles of brands lIke Budweiser, natural light, Coors light, and one more I can't remember. This place has potential. The choripollo was very good, probably the best I've had in awhile. The service was OK, but it took awhile for the waitress to come back around and give me a refill. I found that odd since it was not a busy day. The bar area is right by the front door. Not sure why they didn't set it up a little further inside. The decor is typical of most Mexican restaurants. I guess you could say the whole place is just typical and in an area where Mexican food is very popular, they will need something that sets them apart from the more well established restaurants. read more

I'm not Mexican, but I think the food here is authentic, especially if you follow the recommendations of Ivan, the waiter. He suggested a few off-the-menu items. I tried one (the name of which I cannot recall) that I thoroughly enjoyed. It had a crispy shell and was stuffed with pieces of steak. And the margarita was oh so good!
