I was staying at a hotel nearby for a very short visit to Montgomery. The hotel staff suggested this as something that was open late. The food was fine, I got the veggie combo and the bean burrito was probably the best part. The rest was just ok. It's a rather diner-style space and wasn't that busy the night I was there. The service was a bit slow but ok. I did forget that iced tea in the south is sweet tea, oops! Definitely got my sugar fix. If you're staying nearby and this is your option, it's fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Honestly worst Mexican food I've ever had. I gave it many chances. Tried the shrimp, chicken, and carne asada- all meat there is extremely tough and poorly seasoned. Tortas are pretty big I guess. Chicken soup is way too salty. Even the salsa is weird. They've also gotten my order wrong a few times. Ambiance is the only positive thing, given that there is absolutely nothing around this area. Oh MY GOD!! I've been looking for Mexican food that legit has no hint of spiciness to it, and this is about as neutral as it gets! I've passed by here probably a hundred times, and decided to stop because I was hungry (as you do at a restaurant). And on this day, I was legit hungry. I walked in to the dimly lit establishment, and chose to sit at the bar, as I tend to do when I am eating alone, as to save the tables for bigger parties. The staff was very, very nice and made me feel right at home. I browsed the menu and couldn't decide between the burrito supreme, or the chicken quesadilla, both on the lunch menu, so I ordered both. I was given the obligatory chips and salsa, which I tend to be cautious with on the first bite, but was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't spicy at all. It was all flavor, without all the hot and spicy. Legitimately, some of my all-time favorite salsa. Ever. The burrito and quesadilla arrived, and I dug into both, devouring the burrito quickly. It also wasn't spicy, but just let the natural flavor of the ingredients do the talking for itself. Not disappointed in the slightest. Then I dug into the quesadilla, which I only ate a piece of. (I took the rest to go for the drive) It was hot, delicious, crispy on the outside, melty on the inside, and again, not spicy! Yup, I like it, and I'll go back there again. Stopped here for lunch on our way to Florida. It seems like a nice local spot that had regulars. The service was friendly and efficient. The tables are kind of close together to be prepared for that. Between us we had chicken fajita lunch, chimichangas, kids quesadilla and kids chicken tenders and fries. The fajita could've used more seasoning but the chicken and veggies were cooked well. The kids quesadilla is quite a large portion and was pretty good. Everyone enjoyed the rice and beans. Chimichanga was so-so. Restrooms could be cleaner. I was all in on Waffle House but other parties in the truck wanted KFC, so we decided on something everyone could agree on, Mexican. There were several uniformed service members eating at the place which is normally a good sign. Building is older but I don't care as long as it is clean and the food is good. Overall solid 3 stars. A solid Mexican restaurant near the Montgomery airport, El Amigo served large portions of tasty food. I had the Combo H, which I couldn't finish. It included a taco, burrito, enchilada, and chalupa. My wife had the Taco Salad, which comes in a house-made tortilla bowl. All was very tasty and came out of the kitchen quickly. The chips were great! Seriously crunchy like I like them. My only suggestion would be to salt the chips right out of the fryer. read more

Local Mexican bar/grill right off the highway that has regulars and travelers. Had an outdoor patio that is somewhat authentic and reminiscent of a patio in Veracruz...fully stocked bar, karaoke on Friday nights, great service, good prices and good portions and the food is acceptable. This is going to be short and sorry no pictures. I liked the place but it didn't win my 4+ stars. 1st the place is very outdated to the point that looked a bit dirty. They have a bar so they offer liquor and beers. They don't have draft so it's bottles and cans. They have Pepsi products and they also offer "aguas frescas". Food wasn't bad but not impressive and definitely skimpy on the amount for a Mexican place and the $13 price for a small pile of rice, a few shrimps and zucchini (that's what I ate). Salsa has a good flavor and the chips tastes freshly. Service was friendly and fast until it got busy (we were the only ones there and suddenly boom the place for packed) and the server for overwhelmed. When we asked for a new quesadilla because the one we got was not edible, our server said she would get it but never came back. The food was also overpriced for the quality. You wouldn't think to stop here when driving by the small town of Hope Hull but you definitely should. I was staying at a nearby hotel while in town for work for a month and came here to eat every week and was never disappointed. I tried the carnitas, shredded beef flautas and carne asada tacos. I ordered a chili relleno and a quesadilla and my husband got the chili relleno with rice and beans. To begin with, the chips and salsa were quite good.
