Service was awful tonight. I've been here so many times, had some great, some mediocre and more recently horrible service, and for the first time even though I've had bad experiences before with the same waiter (I usually give the benefit of the doubt that maybe he had a bad day or 2) I only tipped 15% tonight for the first time ever (usually 20% or more) and he was lucky to get that. Staring at people (especially creepy like a peeping Tom through a window behind us and it was not to ensure we had what we needed in a timely manner, but instead wierded us out especially me and my 12 year old who also noticed him staring quite a few times) laughing at people, socializing instead of working, and making people wait longer for things on purpose is odd behavior for a server. Also it took over 1 hour for a margarita? (Which btw was $18) we should have just left. Seriously... Daniel is rude and needs to either get a new job not in customer service or he needs to realize he relies on tips to survive. I have been a loyal customer of el azteca / blue mezcal but this is geting ridiculous. I am sick of feeling like he talks about me and my family. He should be happy to wait on us since we are usually a 5-7 person party and leave nice tips. There are actually major Karen's out there and wait until he gets one of them and gets little to no tip. I have tried to give him many chances to improve but he has been so unpleasant and sighs loudly when you ask for anything. It is plain laziness and ignorance. It has made me not want to return and we usually would eat here once a week. I'm literally in the parking lot writing this and it's a sad day because my family did enjoy going here but with the lack of kindess and hospitality we are not happy. We tried El Azteca for lunch recently after several friends raved about it. In hindsight, I think they were mainly reminiscing about the margaritas rather than the food. We didn't try margaritas on this visit, but I'm sure we would have enjoyed them. However, we did try the food and are kind of on the fence about it. My husband liked what he got - I think it was called alambre (kabobs with meat, seafood, and veggies). It came with rice and beans (?) and a little Mexican salad with guacamole. I had the carnitas which came with rice and beans and a tiny bit of Pico and a grilled pickled jalapeno. The rice and beans were good. The meat was tender and juicy. But it was boring without a sauce to dip it in. And it was so fatty - probably half of it was fat. I did order a side of guacamole but it just didn't really do it for me. Typically I love carnitas but I usually just got it in tacos. I think I will stick with that from now on. Anyway, it was just a so so visit for us. If our friends ever want us to join them for margaritas, we may find ourselves here again but until then, I don't think so. read more

Nice restaurant that serves Mexican cuisine. They do have several other locations within Delaware, like in Dover and Rehoboth Beach. Plenty of room for seating, especially for a large party. Staff was attentive, and atmosphere was pleasant. Their menu contained a good variety to choose from. Portions was plenty and pricing was competitive. However, the flavorings just doesn't seem as authentic. It just seems to lack a bit of true seasoning. There are other options in Middletown that provides a more authentic taste, but that's for another time and review. Overall, this place offers a good value if you seek Mexican cuisine. read more

Tried this place out for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Walking in, the atmosphere was very nice and the decor is very trendy. The staff was very attentive and accommodated our large group very quickly. When you sit down they bring you chips and salsa. I ordered the chimichanga. It was different than most I had in the past at other Mexican restaurants, but it still tasted good. Overall, all of our food was pretty good & we would go again. We brought 96 students (1st and 3rd graders) for a spanish immersion experience. Students got to play games and order food in spanish. We had 50 adults join as well. El Azteca was so easy to work with, more than accommodating, and exceeded our expectations. They were very timlely with serving the food. When we walked in- they had tables set up with chips, salsa, and waters for everyone. They got everyone's orders correct. The kids loved trying the food. All the waiters were so patient and on top of it. I have no idea how they were so well organized for such a large number of people. We are soo happy with our experience and HIGHLY recommend. Love that a local school was able to collaborate with this restaurant for a fun multicultural experience. read more

Though we understand that it is Friday night and they are busy but most of the servers don't speak English and it was so difficult to make them understand our order and of course they messed up our order and they were going to deduct it from server's pay so we decided to just go with it instead of complaining. Very fresh food. Clean and beautiful restaurant, with a very big and fun bar--margarita machines, lots of light and places to sit. We ate in the restaurant. I had a burrito and a chile relleno. Made the mistake of going here during Cinco De Mayo and it was packed! Anyone who lives in Middletown DE, knows it is very limited in restaurants, so when we one opens, its just crazy to be able to get a table, yet it being a holiday such as Cinco De Mayo. The enchilda supreme has ground beef, chicken and one cheese enchilda in red sauce, the four amigos had chorizo, chicken, pork and steak tacos with a side of rice and beans. We waited another 40 minutes for our food, mind you, still no drinks came to the table, folks were approaching our waitress asking about where the drinks were and where their food was, and I could see her getting flustered. She said there was only two bartenders on duty and they were behind in processing the drink orders, the food, I didnt hear an answer to the delay on that. We finally get our food, the food is LUKEWARM! STILL NO DRINKS!! We got our drinks after picked we over our food, the food had no taste, but the drinks were good when we finally got them. We were afraid to order dessert because of the delay. We were there for about two hours!!! The waitress apologized and it is all good, but I will not go back for food, maybe for the drinks. This time I ordered the Cancun special and it was seasoned well and cooked fine just the steak meat wasn't the best quality steak. Went to dinner at El Azteca. My husband and I ordered the dip sampler which came with guacamole, chorizo queso, and regular queso. The chorizo queso was very good. The plain queso was good. But my husband said the guacamole just tasted like plain avocado. For our entrees we both got fajitas. My husband got steak and chorizo fajitas and I got chicken and steak fajitas. We were both very happy with the entrees. The service was also good. The server refilled our drinks without us asking. This was our second time here and we'll definitely go back again. read more

We are HUGE Fans of El Azteca - frequent (like every other Friday frequent!) at the location in Rehoboth.... but we headed north last weekend (Saturday 4:30 pm) and had to check out the sister site. Staff was courteous, welcoming and genuine. We sat in the bar area and the staff there was prompt and welcomed conversation. Food was just as good as Rehoboth; same menu. ONLY complaint is that sound resonates in this building, background noise majorly amplified. Will definitely stop in again the next time we are in town! read more

This is a relatively new spot in Middletown. This was my first visit but my date's (great nephew) third time here. Our waitress zoey was a super friendly young lady who helped me through my order and allowed me to have sauce on the side. I love when they want to accommodate their customers needs.
