Although it's located in the older part of Middletown, it is worth the visit for their diverse menu, and occasional live band. Dining area is well decorated, and fits the atmosphere. My friend and I went to Los Machados for lunch today to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. This was my first visit. The decorations and music put you in celebration mode as soon as we walked in. Their menu is honestly a full fledged book. It includes everything you could ever want if you feel like Mexican dishes. We started out with a Sangria. (It was a celebration after all!). So fruity and delicious! For my entree I chose Fajitas Hawaiian . It included shrimp chicken and steak accented by pineapple, peppers and onions. Everything came cooked to perfection, sizzling in 1/2 pineapple. We had a fantastic luncheon! Be sure to visit them soon! Nice staff but the food is NOT typical Mexican to my liking. Very bland and the food was soaked with a red sauce that was also flavorless. Very very mild generic flavorings. Almost watery sauces/salsas I would say. And they used a yellow melt cheese which I found inauthentic. I've never had yellow melt cheese on my food. I really don't understand the previous reviews of this place. Maybe it was an off night, but service at the bar felt like more like a burden than a privilege- and the food (fajitas) were 'mid' at best. No offer of a second beer and had to wait to get a takeout box. Maybe the good folk in Middletown are easy to please - but I'm not impressed. The ambiance is okay in the dining room - but the bar had one working TV and it looked bad. And the 'lack of focus' on a Monday night was evident. Too many other places to try.... Most Mexican themed restaurants I find tend to focus on Dia de los muertos with skulls and such, but this was much more cheery. A+. Never mind hot peppers. The rice was hard and dry but that's almost always how it shows up in Mexican restaurants in Middletown. Food was carefully prepared but the burrito was merely ground beef inside a tortilla, cheese melted on top, no seasoning, no anything else, no sauce. Boring. The frijoles refritos were thin and not seasoned. Nice people, pretty place to eat but perhaps they are cooking for local tastes, which do run to the unexciting here. Eating out should be enjoyable, and I usually go to restaurants that serve foods I find difficult to make myself. I prefer a good Chinese restaurant or take out place (Hong Kong, Middletown), our an excellent South Indian restaurant (Aha restaurant in Bear). I thought this place was quite good. Just the kind of Mexican food I like. The complimentary salsa they brought out with some chips was so good - absolutely perfect! I had a combo plate with a crunchy taco and an enchilada with some rice and refried beans. It was all very good. I have to say the vibrant decor was my favorite thing about the place though. It was just so colorful and displayed all kinds of pictures of Mexican life. It was beautiful and made me smile. Definitely will be going back! read more

I had dinner here one night last week while in town for a business meeting the next day. The interior is bright and festively decorated. I ordered the fajitas Del Mar which came with shrimps and scallops and retried beans because they didn't have charro. The chips and salsa arrived immediately after. The chips were unusually dark in color but good. The red salsa too. My meal arrived about 10 minutes later. It was a good meal however I would have liked more seafood. I thought it was lite on the amount. I gave the meal a 3.5 but decided to round down for Yelp purposes primarily for the low seafood content. My table service was good (3). I was just at your restaurant today and did not not have the greatest experience. There was a guy at the bar who was making margarita drinks for the customers. He blended the margarita took a straw licked it dipped it back into the margarita tasted it again and then proceeded to pour the drinks for the customer. That was a very disgusting thing what this person did and he felt like it was OK. This restaurant has been my favorite spot to come to since you guys opened and I knew majority of the server there who are very nice. But I must say at this point I will not return. This is covid times and for him to do that is a complete turn off to be honest at any time this is not acceptable. read more

Not a good start. Ordered the loco taco. Let me just say it's huge. But really really good. The kids quesadilla was not well made. Sloppy put together with a lump of chicken. But my one year old didn't seem to mind. Husband was disappointed in his #90. Tortilla with meat. Very bland. By the time we were done and ready to go. The waitress was nowhere to be found. Very slow service for 4 in the afternoon when there are only two other tables. After about 15 minutes after eating I had to get up and find the staff of 3 sitting at a booth in the back on their phones. Decent but not my favorite. read more

The food was delicious and the portions were a decent size. The prices were right on point. I did not try their margaritas, but have heard fantastic things about them. The chips and salsa were plentiful and pretty good! My husband had the tacos al pastor (which was SO MUCH food and smelled fantastic) and I had the chicken taco salad. Easily one of my fave spots in town! Yadi took excellent care of my family and I during our first visit. She started us with yummy chips and salsa as we decided on drinks. My mother got the margarita shooters, dad got a pina colada with lots of cherries, and my sister and I got the peach margarita (one frozen, one on the rocks). For an appetizer we enjoyed the nachos supreme with the toppings on the side. For entrees, dad got the fish tacos, sister for the chicken quesadilla and I got the carnitas burritos (Mom was too full after the nachos). Everything came out timely and cooked to order.
