Why 5 stars? Because it's worth it just to walk in and experience something different. --- --- --- I can't say I've been to many bars in my life where the interior is basically enveloped by trees. The closest thing I can compare it to a line/entrance at Disney. It certainly feels a lot more theme park than restaurant/bar. But aside from the incredibly unique setting, we ordered a pitcher of sangria, and it was excellent. Sometimes a fun theme can be ruined when the quality of the product is subpar, but that was not the case here. I can't speak to their other offerings, but drinking the sangria in such a cool place was a brief, but fun stop during our night! read more

My friends and I came here as part of a bachelorette party upon the request of the bride. We sure were glad that we were able to come and enjoy some drinks as the bar itself was very enchanting. I also noticed that this place was mentioned on buzzfeed as one of the world's most unique bars. Upon entering, I immediately thought I was walking into an enchanted forest. It was relatively dark and trees were lined everywhere. At one point, the lights went out and it simulated a tropical thunder storm. Magical. There seemed to be multiple sections of this place and we were able to find hightops for 13 girls. We got three sangria pitchers and were able to each enjoy multiple glasses of the delicious and refreshing sangria. We never felt rushed to leave and the wait staff was so nice to combine all the high tops for us. With it being right off the path of Las Ramblas, I would highly recommend this place for a rest from walking to enjoy a drink or two. read more

As a cafe fanatic, I've been on the hunt for the perfect little cafe for me to sip on cappuccinos and crank out essays -- and El Bosc de les Fades filled that order to a tee. Dimly lit, with interior design reminiscent of a forest, the cafe is cozy, quaint, and exotic enough to pique anyone's interest. The cafe is surprisingly well coordinated; even its bathroom ceiling is covered with a mass of leaves and its soothing instrumental music evokes scenic hikes across a meadow or trail. There is a steady stream of tourists just passing through the cafe, gawking at the wall decorations and snapping photos, but the place is still relatively quiet enough to get some serious studying done. I'd also come here just to hangout with friends -- besides being great for solo studying, it's accommodating enough for large groups to have a drink together. read more

This bar is magical, like falling into wonderland. You'll see trees, small tables and chairs, small bridges in nooks, and random statues above the bar. You have to go to experience the magic. Their cocktails are great and not very expensive. I usually get a large gin and tonic and people watch. It's a great bar to start your night. read more

I don't rate this place at all, I had expectations and they did not live up to my expectations. I expected an enchanted forest full of fairies and what I got was a place in pitch black so couldn't see anything, I literally had to use my phone torch only to see a few ceramic mushrooms, a few creepy fairies dotted about and trees and branches climbing the walls and ceilings. It was all very cheap and tacky looking and at 4pm I couldn't even order anything to eat. So please don't go out of your way to visit this place, it's so not worth it. read more

I adored it! I could seriously live here :) This was recommended by a local which says a lot. It's a very unique bar tucked behind the wax museum at the bottom of Las Rambla. A hidden gem. It resembles an enchanted forest, very dark and full of character. Every so often there are sound effects of thunder and lightening which really bring the place to life. There is also a parlour room at the back that's pretty creepy, again, I love that! I'm a total creep.. The toilets are really interesting too, the tree theme carries through and it's a little surreal. The prices are decent and the tapas menu isn't bad. I got the potatoe omelette and it was delicious, made for an ideal snack. It came with bread so I was pretty full after it. This isn't like any other bar in Barcelona which was very refreshing and really added to our experience of the city. I highly recommend it. read more

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like this bar. I found it to be quite picturesque actually. My friend, who's been living in Barcelona for a year, brought me here when I visited the city. She said it was an interesting site, and she was right. The bar is kind of hidden, and as you walk in, you'll clearly understand why it's become so famous: the place is decorated as if it were a real, dark forest. The lights are quite low and there's lots of fake trees all around, and in a way you do feel like you've been transported somewhere else. There's even a little fake lake and the vibe is pretty different from the one at regular bars. Every 10 minutes or so you get to hear some nature sounds, as if there were thunders, and the lighting is also changed abruptly. The first time it happens is fun, but later on it's just an interruption to your conversation. I was a bit unhappy about the prices though, that are not as welcoming as the forest environment. I believe I paid 3 or 4 euros for a glass of sangria, and the "caña", or pint of beer, costs around the same. Not outrageous but a not a good deal either, especially when there are no many other cheaper bars around. I was happy to finish my drink and go back into the urban historical grounds of Barcelona. One drink in the forest was enough for me, and I'd say it'll probably be enough for you too, but that does not mean the place is not worth checking out. read more

I have totally spent about ten days in Barcelona, and I've been here at least three times; it's worth a visit! I grabbed my 1st Clara here with a local Barcelonian. The cafe/lounge is very mystical...it looks very much like a scene from "Lord of the Rings." You're walking into a "fairy land" and there are trees everywhere. There is also lightening and sound effects for a thunderstorm. It was definitely interesting. It's not like the "Rain Forest Cafe" in America. It's a different vibe and people conjugate here after work to grab a refreshing drink. After reading impressive reviews, since I was staying in a walking distance, I decided to check it out. We got there at 9:30 PM. Apparently they are open until past midnight, but already half of menu items were not served anymore, including hot beverages. It is basically a sit down bar/restaurant setting but there are no servers. You have to order from the bar and by having only one bartender on duty, it was not an efficient service. Definitely worth a stop if you're wandering the area. Popped in with my husband for a middle-of-the-day break from sightseeing and grabbed a glass of wine while he had a pint. As everyone mentions, the decor is very forest-y. Even during the day, it was extremely low lit and really did feel like a forest, with the twinkle lights and trees bending down over the seating area. There are lots of little nooks and crannies for different couples or small groups to take over. We sat at the bar so we could have a view of most of the main room. This is a neat spot to have a drink, tucked in behind a wax museum. The main room is made to look like a forest, where all the trees have faces. There's also a "parlour" type area with a bunch of creepy mannequins and things, and the lights dim and rise on occasion. This place is all about atmosphere. That being said, the drink prices were pretty non-gougey. The clientele is half tourists and half people on dates or out with friends. Located in the Las Ramblas area, this Fairy Cafe is part of the wax museum and features the most ornate decorations with plenty of seating and a variety of drink options. Make sure to walk through the entire cafe before you leave because each corner is incredible to look at- theres a butterfly wall, and origami wall, large trees you can sit under (indoors), wax figures hanging from ceilings and behind glass... The ambiance is exactly what you think it's going to be. The minute you walk in, you feel like you've been transported into the noodle of a forest. The drinks are not expensive (at least the wine isn't... full bottle for €12), but the food options seem limited. They have a decent selection of sandwiches but if you're not in the mood for a sandwich then you shouldn't plan on eating here. After your eyes adjust to the darkness of the room it becomes very comfortable to be in there but it may feel awkward prior to them doing so. There is a unique room with and artistic vibe in where they have a stage set up with cool mannequins and fixtures. There is zero service there; you must order at the bar and walk back and forth to pick it up. The pictures I've seen make it look a lot bigger than it is but it is a smaller place overall. read more

Came here based on a local friend's recommendation. El Bosc de les Fades transposes you to another world right off las Ramblas and by the wax museum. There's a nondescript overhead sign at the entryway to the alley but most people do not notice it. The place may be touristy but the drinks aren't overpriced. You feel like you've wandered into a small forest and can find your way by a tree or a bush. The place wasn't particularly crowded even on a Friday night, and we were able to get drinks at the bar and bring them to a table pretty easily. It's a nice little escape for a few drinks from the hustle and bustle of the Ramblas and the waterfront. read more

After a friend in London repeatedly urged me to hunt down this magical bar on my recent trip to Barcelona, how could I refuse? She described it well: a fairy kingdom with the best sangria in town! Having never tried sangria I felt El Bosc de les Fades could be the perfect place to order it for the first time and it was a lovely experience. Walking in from the too-bright sunshine of a hot May lunchtime the silky cool of the bar was a welcome relief, as was the dusky darkness lit with fairy lights and candles. Chirping, rustling sounds accosted my ears and weird pictures adorned the walls. My sangria was robust and refreshing, and I spent a good half an hour drinking in the oddball atmosphere as I slowly drained my glass. A nice touch was a mirror that suddenly became a box frame containing a freaky character staring out in the room. One blink and he was gone again. The place reminded me of the Jorvic Viking Centre, a place I visited as a young girl and which had a lasting effect on me with its mysterious mannequins. I'd have liked to have returned in the evening to get the full impact of this cute, weird bar, but was in town for Primavera Festival so there was no time. I think it would be a really fun place to get drunk with some friends, and I fully intend to book that in the next time I'm in Barcelona. read more

This is a strange and magical place. El Bosc de les fadas (Catalan) or el bosque de las hadas (Castillian) means the forest of the fairies and features trees with leaves in this dark grotto like bar. Well hidden and not heaving with tourists it is a place worth a visit although probably only once. Now and again it has a lightning storm with wind and rain inside the pub - but don't worry you don't get wet. However on the few occasions I have been there, the staff have been unfriendly and the place quite dirty. read more

I just reviewed this under the El Bosque de hadas bar by mistake. To find it, head down La Ramblas from Placa Catalunya, and towards the harbour end, on the left is a sign for a wax museum. Turn left towards that, but then turn right and its accessed down a little alley. The prices weren't cheap but the bar was great, if a little weird. The place didn't feel full of tourists, in fact, mostly Spanish/locals. Nearby is another good place called Margerita Blue. read more

Every time I went, it was full of tourists unfortunately, which kind of lose its charm; and I ended up not staying for too long. The name of this place translates as 'The fairies' forest'- and this is truly what it feels like as soon as you walk through the doors. This place is on a small back street somewhere off Las Ramblas and is truly magical. It reminded me somewhat of the coffee shops in Amsterdam. It is decorated with fairy lights, mushrooms, lanterns and many more intriguing objects. You sit at low wooden tables under trees with hanging leaves and the music is almost eerie in that it somehow reminisces the sounds of a haunted enchanted wood.
