Smoke detector covered by a plastic bag. That's not how that works, I would presume. Good for covert smokers, bad for fire warnings.

I don't even know where to begin. I'm very easy on hotel reviews especially if the place falls in the economy tier. What I have come to expect is minimal maid service which pretty much only includes making the beds, taking out the trash & replenishing towels. And I've never once stayed at a hotel/motel that didn't meet these expectations--& we've stayed in more than a handful of different tier hotels. We stayed at this facility for 4 days (and only because it was a convention weekend, I made a mistake with a previous booking AND I didn't want us to sleep in our vehicle) & not once did we come back to the hotel with the beds made, trash taken out & towels replaced. They say there is a first time for everything and unfortunately for us, there's a first time for staying at a truly awful, awful hotel/motel. We walked into our "non-smoking" room to be greeted with the awful stench of cigarette smoke. Upon investigation, The Huz discovered that someone had covered the smoke detector with a plastic bag (I guess to allow the freedom to smoke). My question is, did no one from the staff notice this? Furthermore, they has many smoking ash trays placed just outside of the non-smoking rooms. The bed sheets had stains on them! The walls had chipping paint. They had a refrigerator but it made so much noise (sounded like a growling Wookie from Star Wars). And when I put some stuff in it, it froze everything! The door did not have a second lock bolt. It was there, but it didn't work & appeared to have been tampered with. It looked like someone previously kicked the door in because there was a rectangular cut into the door that was poorly patched back together. There was also no eye hole to view who may be right outside the door, instead it was covered by an unusual type of material, maybe toilet paper? Every time we left for the day, we made sure to pack everything because there was no way we were going to leave anything we considered of value in the room. There was no stopper in the bathtub so you couldn't take a bath (thank goodness the showers worked at least). In addition, the water pressure in the sink was awkward because it kept splashing everything (what's up with that). But the most shady part of the experience is when we checked in, the attendant asked us to cancel our booking so that he wouldn't have to pay commission fees. He also proceeded to ask if The Huz wanted to "check the room" just in case he didn't want to go further with the booking. The Huz responded, "Uh, does that happen often?", which was answered by a shrug. Truly, truly awkward & eye-opening experience. I reported them to Booking.com If my "Elite Yelper" reviews hold any weight at all, I wholeheartedly warn all to stay away from this place. Please book & stay at your own discretion & may the force be with you.

WORST HOTEL IVE EVER BEEN TOO! Smelled really bad inside, couch all stained up, everything dusty and dirty, blankets all ugly, bathroom curtain all stained...there was a pubic hair in bathtub, I have 3 small kids..in no damn way was I going to even stay there one night. HAVE NO DAMN IDEA HOW THEY LET THIS HOTEL BE IN BUISNESS, WORST WORST PLACE EVER!!!

    Awful interior

This is the worst place to get a room in El Cajon. I stayed in a single King room last Tuesday to Wednesday (11/13/18). No A/C as advertised, cockroaches, ticks( which I killed one on one of the walls), interior run down, TV reception was awful, guy in room next to me was hacking up a lung and cussing and yelling all night, if you stay here enjoy sleeping with cockroaches, ticks and whatever else might pay an unwanted visit.

towels on the floor because the air conditioner was leaking water

I checked into this hell hole on Wednesday, July 20th, 2016 approximately 130pm. Prior to checking in, the owner and his wife both asked me at the same time, "A room for how many people?" I responded for two people and was then given a room with a huge crack underneath the door of the entrance, that you can see the entire parking lot! I booked a room online with a queen size bed, and a sofa bed with 2 person maximum capacity. The owner of this rundown palace, gave me a room with a king size bed. I told him, my email confirmation said I have a sofa bed and I would need that sofa bed. He asked, "How many people in this room?" I said, "2. Me and my friend." Owner then said, "This bed is big enough for two". I said, "That is not the point. The point is I want what I paid for." He then tells me no, he don't have any rooms available with a sofa bed at all whatsoever. I then said I might need to book somewhere else then. He left my room and I went thru my emails for the booking confirmation. About 10 minutes later came a knock on my door, the owner. He told me he found a room with a sofa bed. Magically he found a room with a sofa bed after he said there was nothing available at all whatsoever. I had to move all my belongings and moved into another room. After moving into the new room with a sofa bed, I settled down and went back into the office to ask for extra bedsheets, blankets for the sofa bed for my friend and extra towels. There are only two towels in that room. The owner's wife was at the front desk. When I requested for the extra stuff, she gave me a bewildering look and said to me in an almost screaming voice, "How many people in your room!" I told her, "Didn't you just asked me that when I checked in?! I said two! How many do you think there are?! I need the stuff for the sofa bed." Her husband then walked in and she ignored me and turned to him and asked, "How many people in her room?!" At this point I lost my temper and said to both of them, "Both of you asked me like 10 times already how many people and I keep saying two!!! And both keep asking and asking the same damn question!! How many times do you want me to answer this same question and how many more times are you going to ask?!" The owner then hushed his wife and said to me, "ok ok never mind, I will bring you the things." Needless to say the "things" took quite awhile to show up. I had the air conditioner running thru out the day because it was 100 degrees outside in El Cajon, CA. The air conditioner was leaking of water. I didn't say anything to the owner, because I'm tired of talking to him and his wife about this stupid room so I put a towel on the floor where the water was dripping. The next day, Thursday July 21st, 2016 my friend and I left the room early in the morning. We left the AC running so that when we get back the room will be cool. When we got back the entire floor was wet from the AC and had to use all the towels to mop up the floor. I took a trash bag, picked up all the wet towels and took it into the office in exchange for clean ones. Later on that night my friend saw roaches running on the floor by her sofa bed. I went to brush my teeth and saw a small black roach running from the back of the faucet and baby roaches in the bathroom floor. Saturday, I got back at 230am morning. The office has a neon light that says open. Again, I needed more towels. I went into the office and rang the bell. His office is connected to his motel room. I rang the bell again. Two minutes later he stumbled into the office, with his eyes still half closed. I said, "Sorry to wake you up but can I get some more clean towels?" The owner looked at the clock and ask, "Do you know what time it is? 230 in the morning". I said to him, "I'm sorry I need some towels and I'm sorry to wake you up. I'm exhausted too and I just got back. Can I just get the towels and you can go back to sleep." The owner then looked at me up and down and said to me, "Wow. You look amazing for being so tired!!" You know, at this point I lost it. I do not need or deserve any f'n comments and I let him have it at this point. All I asked for was for towels!! NOT ANY KIND OF COMMENTS!! I literally screamed at him at this point and said to him, "I didn't ask you to own this shitty ass motel nor did I ask you to take this kind of job! You could've hired some kid to do your crappy work during graveyard shift while you sleep but instead you're too cheap!!! I want my f'n towels!!" Needless to say he got me my towels within 5 minutes. He also called the cops on me. Cops told me he calls them on a regular basics with issues he has on his tenants. This goes to show you, this person have no proper business etiquette and have no people skills. The next morning he kicked me out of the shitty ass motel. Just note, if you decide to come to this crap hole, make sure you are ready to see the roaches and make sure you are ready for the tight ass he is on his towels. This guy is a bitch.

So I have to say John and his wonderful and beautiful customer service that he gave us was awesome The next day when it was time for us to leave we called up and John was there and we requested a luggage rack and he came up and brought us a luggage rack we were able to go downstairs and check out so smoothly You did everything with the smile it was wonderful ruined expecting that but we got a wonderful service for the job You deserves to be praised and we're praising him through Yelp. when we come back to El cajon will definitely stay at this hotel room it was big enough I mean big enough for us it felt like a sweet but not really but for us always ordering two beds we always get a double with this time we got cleans and which was nice. Skip ahead 2 years and it's run down, dirty, and staff doesn't care. The last time I booked, I contacted the hotel to cancel the stay, spoke to Sebastian (mentioned several times in reviews for being unhelpful), and attempted to cancel due to a medical issue that prevented me from traveling. He denied the cancelation, saying its policy and he couldn't change it and to call Hilton. I did, Who said that he could cancel this, but he didn't want to do that. He wouldn't reschedule this, cancel this, or work with me even being a diamond member. Other hiltons will cancel reservations when things like this happens, but this won't. Overall, skip this location by all means. It's run down, questionable cleaning practices, but on a plus, you don't have to go far for some food as it shares a parking lot with fast food options.

Although I found everything in the room to be clean and in good working condition, this motel was showing its age. Also it did not look like a very good area. There were definitely some sketchy people loitering around the motel and the surrounding area. Thankfully, I'm not a light sleeper, but for those that are, there was a lot of traffic noise as it is located close to the 8 freeway. I left early in the morning and only the first floor lights were on. It was pretty dark up on the third floor including the stairwell.

Rooms nowadays can cost an easy $200+ a night and we were able to book a room for $125 tax included. 2) AC worked really well and blasted out cold air which was a plus. 3) the towels were really soft. I know this isn't a big deal for most but I really dislike rough hotel towels so this was a plus for us. 4) hardwood floors!! Major plus!!! Aldo at the front desk was very friendly. We exchanged some small talk while he checked me in and was able to accommodate me with my request for a room on the 1st floor (we have a 4y.o boy, if you know you know!). He also asked if we brought any pets in which I replied no and he waived the $200 security deposit!! Never had this happened before so that was really nice of him! Things we didn't like: 1) the walls are extremely thin and our neighbors kept slamming the front door all night so it was a bit hard to sleep. 2) the mini fridge was dirty and had ice stuck on the back. Some compartments were also missing. 3) there was hair in the sink 4) lots of people out smoking and lounging. Not that it was bothersome but because of the super thin walls, there was a lot of outside noise. Overall, it was a decent stay for a last minute need. The beds were pretty comfortable and the rooms are more upgraded than most rooms I've stayed at. Not exactly the best area because there was a cop car parked out front all night but close to the freeway and gas station. Staff was friendly and plenty of free parking on premises. Wi-Fi was not the best, I didn't receive most my texts/notifications until after I disconnected from the Wi-Fi. The microwave was also unplugged, however we had no use for it. Small table by the window was flimsy and one of the chairs was slightly broken. Not pictured: the front door from the inside was really dirty with hand print marks. Pictures were taken at check out. We were extremely tired from a day at SeaWorld and I didn't think to take photos before we settled in.

Came down on a Wednesday and stayed in a Marriott until this last day (Saturday to Sunday) because of pricing (BW was half of what Marriott wanted). Needless to say; we made a poor choice. I had read some reviews thinking, "Okay, it's a mixed bag, some people thought it was nice, others not so much..." and decided for the price and convenience, we would give it a shot. The photos online make it look super clean and renovated but that's definitely not the case. Don't be fooled by the photos like I was! It's not even in the same category of hotel as an older Hampton Inn or Courtyard. This is more of a "motel" than a "hotel". Check-in was decent; the lady at the front desk was polite and helpful in explaining everything. When we parked is when it started to go sideways. First thing; there's an armed security guard standing on the corner of the building. That was the first sign that this hotel was definitely not anyone's first choice as a place to stay. The room smelled like smoke and instantly showed wear from previous guests and a poor remodel. Some highlights include: Missing paint chips on what otherwise looked to be a fresh(er) coat of paint. Considering these were at the same height at the counter, I assume it was from the installers bringing in the fixture at time of update. The TV was "wall-mounted" but barely. I was going to use my Amazon Fire Stick that we travel with but the TV was so wobbly that I didn't want to risk it. There are two bedside fixtures; one is missing the "chandelier" portion and the other one has it, but doesn't work. There are random "gummy" spots on things - the floor, the furniture, etc. We ended up wiping down as much of the room as we could with a 50 count bottle of disinfecting wipes we brought along and used 80% of the bottle. The floor was terrible! I wore sandals (no socks) today and when we left our family's house, my feet were relatively clean. 15 minutes of walking around the hotel and they were black! I washed them with disinfecting wipes and put socks on until I showered and went to bed. Speaking of showers, my girlfriend showered first, and she said there were hairs in the drain / tub she had to clean up before she got in. On a positive note, the water pressure was good and the toilet flushed well, but the tub drain is slow to actually drain, so you're standing in a puddle of water while you shower. All in all, we're going to get the heck out of here first thing in the morning and I won't be returning. Lesson learned; saving a little money while traveling is always important but I'd just as soon pay a little more next time and end up in a better hotel.
